    I've got the same bike and I too blew up my X2 pretty quickly. I just checked my shock alignment in the linkage and it was far enough off to where transition is replacing the front triangle under warranty. You should check yours out, hopefully the better alignment will extend the life of the X2.

    Love these videos. Thank you. I have the same bike but I just swapped the air spring in the 38’s to make it 170. And kept the fox x2 rear, but removed the spacer to make it 65mm 170. I do love this bike….. also I went raw metal because of your paint hate.

    • @steffenlee2960
      @steffenlee2960 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm thinking to do the exact same thing - can you comment on your perceived advantages or drawbacks? I believe the 170mm front raises the front a little and thus slackens etc, was this a noticeable effect at all? Transition clearly made a purposeful choice to roll the bike out at 160, so there must be some drawback right? Our trails in Squamish are all in the harsh category so more travel seems appropriate...

    • @307.William
      @307.William ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@steffenlee2960 I really like it. I don’t really have MTB trails here. A lot of hiking and horse trails so their really rough. The Sentinel is 170 all around an a very similar frame just not a mullet. The slackness really I don’t notice until I’m coming of super steep and chunky. The back doesn’t really change it just sinks more when I hit big jumps. I got pedal strikes before any changes so 🤷🏽‍♂️. It’s just a low bike. I’m 210 and also run 4 spacers in the front ant two in the back for better progressives.

    You running cushcore in the rear after your last blowout in the Colorado video?
    Definitely would like a review on the arma and the spire. Maybe a comparison vid of the patrol vs spire if you guys are the same size frame.
    I’m on a carbon sentinel and it weighs about the same as the new carbon patrol. I beat the snot out of it racing enduro, jumps, big drops, etc. At 250lbs I’m hard on stuff, no frame breakage issues yet!

      @Blake_Cherubini  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not running cushcore. I just don’t feel like it really helps much. I’ve blown out wheels with and without it. Seems like it’s more for sidewall strength rather than rim protection!

    Glad to hear you're liking the bike. I seriously considered a Spire at one point. After dealing with some durability issues with my last carbon frame I switch to a Kavenz VHP16. 7000 series aluminum, incredibly light (about 2lbs lighter than an aluminum spire), and fast. The thing goes like a raped ape. I see no reason to buy carbon unless you want an XC race bike.

    • @Blake_Cherubini
      @Blake_Cherubini  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a very interesting analogy but I like it. Is that 7000 series aluminum as strong or is there a sacrifice in strength for the reduced weight?

    • @JaggedTusk
      @JaggedTusk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Blake_Cherubini 7000 series aluminum is stronger and more durable than 6000 series aluminum. This allows manufacturers to use thinner tubes for the same strength thus saving weight over a 6000 series aluminum frame. The downside to 7000 series aluminum is it's more difficult to work with which means the frames are usually a little more expensive. A few companies I know using 7000 series aluminum are Banshee, Kavenz, REEB, and Nicolai. There are probably more.

      @the_chicken_chaser ปีที่แล้ว

      I just got a new patrol in large. Coming off of a 2015 Giant Reign 2 that was X-Large. I thought it was too small at first, but after a little bit of experimenting with seat post & handlebar height, I have to say, it's a pretty good fit. I put my seatpost up pretty high and raised my handlebars by a few millimeters, and it feels great while climbing. Only thing is, my seat post likes to "settle" down after a long uphill, so I'm going to put some friction paste on the post so it stays exactly where I set it without having to tighten the clamp too tight.
      I would love to hear more people's opinions on the sizing and how they get the perfect set up. When this bike is riding perfectly it is incredible.

    • @Blake_Cherubini

    Is it common for people to blow up their X2 shock? I've had mine for over a year, maybe it's cause I don't weigh much (150lbs) but I feel like I ride pretty hard, nothing like you guys but I've been to the bike park (Thunder, Mountain Creek, Killington) about 40 times and haven't had any problems with it ... Or my carbon frame (Mach 6).

    • @Blake_Cherubini
      @Blake_Cherubini  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s much more common on trunnion bikes I believe because more stress is put on the shock body rather than going through a bushing first

    Shock review please, I'm torn between EXT or Ohlins coil

    • @JaggedTusk
      @JaggedTusk ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have run both Ohlins and EXT coils. They are both outstanding and you can't go wrong with either. The EXT is slightly lighter and has hydraulic bottom out which the Ohlins doesn't have. The Ohlins is a little cheaper. The EXT also has slightly more adjustment range but also requires tools to adjust. None of those things are huge deals to me though and wouldn't sway me too much. The most important thing in my opinion is having the shock tuned for your bike and riding style. Get whichever you are able to have tuned. If you're just going to run a generic off-the-shelf tune you're wasting your money with these fancy shocks. The one complaint I have about my EXT is I can't get it serviced locally which is annoying. I can get my Ohlins serviced and tuned only 15 minutes from where I live.

    Sick bike E 13 is garbage. Nothing but trouble with that brand. You should check out Spoke X Bike Co. They have an in house carbon wheel called the SX 310 and it comes with Hydras or onyx hubs. They do in house powder coating too. My friend Hunter owns the company. If you want a bomb proof wheel for the park check those out. I ride every weekend at Northstar and not one issue.
