    My XR ran flawlessly with my omega 9k with the stock spring. My p80 17 clone had the opposite issue here where it wouldn’t eject, or would get stove pipes, or not lock back on the last round. It does have a stock weight recoil spring, so in this case perhaps it needs a lighter one. The pistol was well lubricated.

      @@Cseeley122 yeah so basically if it’s an FTE, it needs a lighter recoil weight. I went with 15lbs. If it’s an FTF, or failure to go into battery then it needs a heavier spring.

    In my brief experience I have seen the slide not wanting to go back into battery like shown here with a brand new gun and it not being broke in and the owner not putting lube on before shooting also. Usually if someone takes a gun straight out of the box.

    Thanks for the video. I have a larger dead air suppressor, the wolf man. I just tried it on my dr920 and it won’t cycle. I’ll be able to get one round off then I have to rack it back to cycle the weapon. I had cleaned it prior to shooting and also sprayed lube into it when the malfunction occurred. Still no cycling. Going to try the heavier recoil spring.

    Awesome video. Will a stiffer spring help reduce the amount of gas and gunk getting kicked in your face? I'm currently having that issue.

  • @zdub8438
    @zdub8438 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is why I slapped together an AR-9SD. I've had zero jams or malfunctions of any kind. No fancy devices or tuning needed just screw it on and dump thousands and thousands of rounds through it. 40 round mags are $20. The spring sproinging and bolt going home is louder than the shot and the bolt coming back. I haven't experienced any of the port pop or gas face I've heard about. All the noise and filth stays in the gun.
    Slide guns with cans may look cool and tactical but what's really cool and tactical imo is something that can run forever with any ammo and no tuning.

    well that's the opposite of my problem lol, the shells won't eject when I shoot my p80 g19, it runs like a dream without the can after 500 rnds but it fails to eject after every shot when suppressed. it acts like the booster isn't even installed although i followed the manual perfectly and had it verified by the suppressor savi clerk I bought it from.

    I’d love to hear your thoughts as to why you prefer iron sights over RDS’!

    • @ShadowSystemsCorp
      @ShadowSystemsCorp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey! I started shooting USPSA Limited class in 1996 so that's 26 years of watching sights lift and recover. I'm rather a purist so I never got excited about trying out open class. Therefore, I never experimented with or perfected technique with a dot. I also started competing and learning at a very young age, and the things you learn when you are young stick with you always.
      If I converted to RDS, I would exchange being a very good iron sights shooter for a fairly novice level RDS shooter and that is not a better outcome for me. Ironically, I also don't get to train very much--I shoot less recreationally now than I ever have in my life. My range time is related to product development or shooting videos, not learning and practicing new things. I am also at a place in my life where I derive more joy from teaching my kids how to shoot than from teaching myself something new.
      Therefore, my reasons for sticking with irons are related to my own personal experience, not anything that is inherently bad about RDS. I train my children on RDS guns because I know that is going to be the standard for most of their lives (after they learn irons, of course!).
      The biggest advantage I see for RDS is how much they shorten the learning curve and how they allow you to focus on the target which is everyone's natural tendency. You can also shoot tighter groups with them, but that is not as important, practically speaking.
      Hope that was helpful. Trevor

    • @TheKoreanMarksman
      @TheKoreanMarksman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ShadowSystemsCorp woah thanks for the excellent explanation!!! Do you always front sight hard focus or do you target focus and superimpose the irons sometimes?

    • @KravMagoo
      @KravMagoo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheKoreanMarksman Trevor has said in other videos that when using iron sights up close, it is okay to "feel" your shots, but at a certain distance when he uses his sights his sole focus is the front sight...rear sights and target are blurred. I think his saying is "front sight tells the tale" of successful shooting.

    Help! I attached my almost brand new can (AAC Ti-rant 45 - owned six yrs but not used... long story) to my almost brand new Glock 21SF the other day at the range. All had been modestly greased and/or lubed in key areas prior ro firing.
    The weapon cycled reiiably with factory springs. HOWEVER, accuracy at 15 yds (bench/sandbag rested) was horrific. As I turned to different points of the clock, the POI moved around the bullseye...10" away from the "X"!!!
    Btw, firing from bench sand bags prior to suppressing, this Glock's POI, from 15 yds away, was 2" high, 2" right.
    I sure couid use some helpful advice. AAC "tech" person (e-mail only) has nothing helpful to say at all.

    • @ShadowSystemsCorp
      @ShadowSystemsCorp  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow that’s a big shift. Is there any evidence the bullet is kissing the opening at the front of the can on the way out? Did you try more than one kind of ammo? I take it you can make it go high or low, left or right, just by moving the can? Where does it print when tightened down? I assume you don’t have an O-ring on the barrel and there is metal to metal contact at the shoulder of the barrel?Trevor

    • @teller1290
      @teller1290 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShadowSystemsCorp Double checked: zero evidence of strike at opening on way out. All ammo the same Winchester 230-gr JHP. Yes, "can" adjustment moved point of impact "around the clock"...equally far away from bullseye. "Viton" (per accompanying pamphlet) O-ring inside front cap of "can." I lubed area with bit of Lubricate grease before trip to range.
      Not sure what you mean by "tightened down," unless you mean without "can." If that's you're meaning, POI was 2" high, 2" right from same bench rest 15 yds away. Thx.

    • @ShadowSystemsCorp
      @ShadowSystemsCorp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would, if it really will be a mostly suppressed gun. The guns run fine with a 20 lbs if your technique is decent and the ammo is not some powderpuff stuff. Only trade off might be a little more perceived recoil. Trevor

  • @strykeback1
    @strykeback1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Someone already got my question out about red dot weight but how about barrel and slide length adding weight? Like would the dr920 or dr920l need a longer or tougher spring due to weight to ensure it cycles? Looking for a cr920 as my new carry gun and if I fall in love I’m thinking xr920 for a duty pistol with room for a comp or suppressor.

    • @ShadowSystemsCorp
      @ShadowSystemsCorp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The main factors affecting spring weight are coupled mass (barrel plus slide), uncoupled mass (slide), ammunition (huge), shooter technique (huge), and friction. Whether the guns you mentioned will need a different spring will depend on those factors--keep in mind that bigger slides are not necessarily heavier as you can machine weight out of them in other areas as we have with the DR920P.
      The irony here is that your spring is faced with competing objectives. The goal is to have a strong enough spring to protect the gun from damage, a weak enough spring to always eject with a wide range of ammunition and shooter technique, a strong enough spring to strip the round and push the round up the ramp. Add a comp and a suppressor and it all gets even worse! Trevor

      Did you put the rubber o ring on that comes in the bag?

    • @ShadowSystemsCorp
      @ShadowSystemsCorp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Tyler, there is a rubber o-ring in the box from when you bought your pistol. That o-ring is meant to be used to keep the thread protector on. You’ll place the o-ring over the end of the barrel and then tighten the thread protector on as tight as you can hand tighten it. The o-ring will squish out to the sides a bit-you want that; that squishing will give the friction you need to keep the thread protector in place. One note, the o-ring must be removed before using any muzzle device.
