- From the beginning of the Sony Ultra HD Blu-ray release of "Cliffhanger".
Assuming they can get past TH-cam's Content ID system without being taken down, I would like to start uploading more movie logos, specifically from Ultra HD Blu-ray releases. I wanted to start doing this with Cliffhanger because there are actually 2 releases of this film on the format, the North American Sony release and the international StudioCanal release. Both releases have some differences (both good and bad), and they both feature different logo sets at the beginning.
*NOTE*: In order to make this watchable for most of my TH-cam audience, I had to tonemap the video from HDR to SDR. There is no definitive way of doing this, so what you're seeing right now may or may not be accurate to an official SDR grade or the HDR grade this was derived from. One of the best studio name intros ever. Brings back memories from the early 90's. Every now and then you'll get to see it if a movie from that era is playing.
Loved that TriStar/Carolco combo that kicked off movies like Rambo III, Total Recall, Terminator 2, Universal Soldier, Cliffhanger and so many others!
Don't forget "Basic instinct".

Cliffhanger is the last movie to feature the 1984 TriStar Pictures logo and the next movie, Sleepless in Seattle is the first movie to feature the 1993 TriStar Pictures logo. The one with the TriStar Pegasus in the Columbia Pictures-like cloud background.
Julian Villarreal The 1993-2015 TriStar logo with the 1984-1993 fanfare was also used in “Jury Duty” (1995).
In a sign of things to come, Carolco made the decision to sell video/TV distribution rights of Cliffhanger to Sony.

syndication rights expect Cliffhanger, Stargate, Showgirls and I Spy were now owned by Sony Pictures Television thru TeleVentures.
I think that _Carolco_ & _Tri Star Pictures_ are together also in *Total Recall* (1990).

Unlike the rest of Carolco movies, or most Castle Rock movies (through Columbia), the video and television rights aren't held by Sony
@@fromthehaven94 but Sony owns only a few Castle Rock Entertainment's library, such as Seinfeld, A Few Good Men, North (US distribution only), Envy (international distribution only), etc.

This film was a big money maker but Carolco shot themselves in the foot. Selling their share of the film's rights to Sony.
That was actually the only way for Carolco to stay afloat due to their money problems. The biggest shot in the foot was when they passed on making Crusade, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger for Cutthroat Island, which led to their bankruptcy.

I think this was the only Carolco film not part of the Lionsgate distribution, as it was officially distributed by TriStar.
Carolco sold TV and video distribution rights of Cliffhanger to TriStar.

I have a big collection of movies, and I'm a big fun of 80s action movies, and this intro is iconic. I'm going to add it to the start of the Rambo series, because in 4k you don't have that intro.
