Most people underestimate the huge amount of maintenance, money, time and work a boat truly costs you 😉. Before buying a boat, go ask some owners.
Top 2 reasons to pay rent In this order:
1. A reliable shower
2. To have a girlfriend
Sounds legit.
He doesn't need to conform to society views to get a girlfriend and a reliable shower is a easy fix

What were the marina liveaboard fees? Utilities, pump out, $$ to rent the slip? How much per foot to rent the slip?
Yea exactly like boat slip fee is not cheap! I know ppl who live on their boat by my dad’s.

Nice tour and love your videos! Can't help myself to point out that saying 'almost no rent'. How miuch does he pay per day to put his boat in the harbour? And maintenance costs per.year? Love the boat!
I paid $1,500 for my houseboat in Key Largo. My husband fixed it up while we lived on it for 18 months. I lived on anchor and paid $150 mo. for dingy dock, to park my car, throw my trash, get water, and use the shower on shower.
Some important questions are not answered in this video. His yacht had its own mooring at a marina for $100 per month? How is this possible in NYC? What if he wants to change the mooring? Could he sail to work with the boat and back to his home mooring? What about reporting obligation and receiving mail?

I live in an expensive city too, (usually makes the top 5 lists in North America) and my friend bought a boat to live on a number of years ago. Truly an unexpected and such a clever way to remain in the city you love.
Berthing fees are a lot though
@@Spgcustom they absolutely can be, but in her case moorage was cheaper than rent.
It's been a way of life in Seattle for a very long time but now they're cracking down on that and large part because they can't get the same level of property taxes off of Oliver board on a boat and unfortunately some that have been living on their sailboats started to create problems in the marina it's really unfortunate because that has always been one of the cool parts of the lifestyle of Portland and Seattle it's the fact that you could much like and sleepless in Seattle have a houseboat. Now it's just for the uber wealthy..

this is not realistic, mantaining a functioning sailboat is way more expensive than rent

I spend a day on the water for my 40th birthday recently and it’s crazy that I’ve lived my whole life by the ocean but that day just put me over. I loved it so much, I can’t stop thinking about being on a boat. It’s so freeing and the negative ions in the water just make you happy among so many other things and especially being out in nature. We are everything and nothing in the universe. A feeling of just being present.

I purchased a sailboat for that same reason. But I haven't moved on it just yet. I live in Miami and my boat is in the keys I don't pay anything, to have the boat there. I'm also thinking on putting it on Airbnb.

So he doesn't have insurance? Sailboat insurance is close to $500 a month. Living in marinas is rare because scumbags were emptying their holding tanks (shit) in them
He even says he lives in an apartment now for hia gd and for showering easier and all. Thr winters would suck. U have ti paddle into shore with another boat and pay to store it somewhere. He eveb said ita a dieing thing now in nyc and that the 79th at boat basin or whatever that people use to go to to dock to visit nyc and to sleep on theor boats is now dead and i have herd that from others being born and rasied sailing on thr hudson mt whole life. Its not as easy as one thinks. And its still costs money and to use just anchors ur boat can drift and float away if unlucky so u need a mooring ball and all somewhere for more permanant anchoring. Sock slips cost a ton and alot dont allow live aboards anymore. As he even said. Alot of the places u can live on boat are now shut down around nyc and he lives in expensive apartment now with gf. 😓

It's my boyfriends dream to live on a sailboat. We looked into it as our college is close to the water. But the slip cost for a boat here is just as much as an apartment maybe more 😅
