  • Rear Engine Power Failure... a simple switch that could prevent catastrophe during takeoff! I've added it to my downloadable abbreviated checklist (link below). Also included: Quick Start, Fuel Panel gotchas & Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) at EG78 Out Skerries in the brilliant little Trislander BN-2A Mk III-1 by BlackBox Simulation for MSFS.

    That's a cool little feature. I've never seen this switch before on any aircraft (including the Trislander!) In fairness though, I've never been consciously looking for it. But it makes sense to have it because you'd never hear the pitch change on the rear engine at failure.
    I like the long nose version. I guess because I was used to seeing the Aurigny aircraft in and out of Southampton

    This felt like my kind of flying. Short nose every time for me. Scenery detail looked super - especially the fish farms and the light house.

    Sorry...i got it. I had to listen to you say it over and over 3 or 4 times because you spoke a little bit fast but I think you said echo golf 78. (EG78) So I looked it up and apparently this is the Crown jewel of the UK so I am very happy I stumbled upon your video! Thank you!!!

    The sole reason of course for the long nose is for extra cargo. So your suitcase could be in the nose (a bit like with Volkswagen Beetle 🪲). I think the short-nosed version is more beautiful, and Aurigny did have two (G-BBYO and G-BAXD) at one stage, but the majority they had were long-nosed. I think G-JOEY’s eyes were more obvious because of the long nose 🤩

    The Mk1 looks neater, more like a wee island hopper! The Mk2 kinda reminds me of the Bulbus Nimrod they tried to introduce! I'm glad they didn't, as the MR2 Norman was a classy wee looking aircraft (and excellent to both work with and fly in. Good Times 🙂👍🏻)!
    As for the extra switch you just showed, kinda strange that they wouldn't just keep it on for the full duration of the flight. I think I would as it's a definite safety feature (and the way I fly, I need as many safety features as I can get 🤪)!

      I forgot to mention the reason, if you fly at reduced rpm, the light would come on constantly. Downwind at 2400rpm for instance.

      @cgaviator yeah, of course. I'm an idiot! Sorry. I can be a right dunderheid from time to time (or so the wifey keeps reminding me anyways)! 🤪

    At 6:18 and more, those beautifull cliff coast, is this default FS2020 scenery?

    The MKIII-1 looks more like the Islander whereas the MKIII-2 looks like a Swearington Metro.
    Is that the default scenery for the Skerries or a mod?
    As for landing, does it help to raise the flaps immediately after touching down to help with downward pressure so the brakes are more effective? Or is that something you would only do with an extreme STOL aircraft?

    • @cgaviator
      @cgaviator  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Only with extreme STOL I believe. At higher speeds and larger weights the aerodynamic drag from the flaps is more useful.

    This is great and all that … but is engine failures actually modelled ?

      @@cgaviator lol … what ? The aircraft doesn’t have engine failures ??? But you’ve showcased a video about preventatives ? Nothing against you of course but it’s pretty useless then if they aren’t modelled .. this is why I stay away from these type of aircraft, they look ok but just no representative of the real thing .. msfs is going down the route of being flooded with aircraft like this … roll on a2a etc

      @@saren6538 the sarcasm is oozing from your words! 😂 I will test it tonight and let you know. MSFS should provide failures for all aircraft as part of its core programming.

      @@cgaviator ctr e always work but that is cheating and i dont want to fly that way. I could let it start right at rwy. What is meant by "axis bound to mixture"?

    • @cgaviator
      @cgaviator  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@user-qy4jc4ly6d when I have trouble starting an engine, it’s usually down to having a switch assigned to the mixture, or something engine related, that would stop it starting. If ctrl E works then that maybe not the case. If you were able to start it before but not any more than check if you have installed anything recently, mostly freeware, that could interfere. If not then submit an issue with the developer
