Now imagine all that happening over the course of about 8 days. Hunter's had a _rough_ week.
That splat never stops shocking me.
Also not just some 'old friend.' But a clone of his brother who he murdered. Then made hundreds of copies of, only to kill them later on and enjoying killing them! Also imagine, your abusive parental figure is basically your older/younger brother.
when he sees the illusion and gasps "Belos!" it does some bad things to my heart. oh my god he's so terrified of him, poor traumatized child. his voice actor did an incredible job

What's funny is Belos says the other Golden guard betrayed him, but Hunter actually didn't- Belos just feared he would and turned on him
More like he learned about his true nature and he would spill the beans at some point. But Belos chose to speed up the process.
He asked questions. That was "betrayal" enough.
Kind of makes you wonder how many of the previous Guards actually betrayed him, and how many were just victims of Belos’ paranoia.
I think you're supposed to question if they did in fact "betray" him or if that's just how he characterized it to justify murdering them. Very likely, all they did was start asking questions, signaling to Belos that they were no longer obedient puppets. Belos said it himself, what he values in Hunter is that he does what he's told.
Considering his unhinged paranoid prejudicial nature and hatred of witches combined egotistical delusional nature of wanting to be a hero my guess he would have killed them anyway once they have forgone their use, betrayed him or just because the clones starting to act more and more like caleb

I was gonna edit the scenes and make it sad but then I realized that willow's thing happened before belos' lul
Fun fact: when they were writing episode 21-kings Tide, when the collector was supposed to smash Bellos, Hunter was supposed to be splattered with goop as the others dodged, traumatizing him even more knowing that he's just been splattered with the one has manipulated him for 16 years but they cut it out because it didn't fit the time limit
He does hesitate as he has to step over the goop trying to get to the door, and some of the goop drops on his shoulder as he finally steps over.
I don’t think they cut it cause the time limit, I think they said they cut it cause it was just too much. Cause it would be too cruel.

@@elizabethbilyeu3031 Of Course! Warning, It’s a little morbid though. So in kings tide when emperor Belos gets turned into green goo the original intention was everyone would have had to dodge the explosion, except for Hunter, who was supposed to end up covered from head to toe in Belos’s remains.

I've noticed something, at 3:51 when Belos notices flapjack he says "Caleb!" and I think I put something together, from "Hunters palisman observations" he states that flapjack was owned by someone else previously due to markings on the staff, and belos had the grimwalkers to represent and remake his old friend, and when willow asks for hunters name flapjack suggest "Caleb" so was Caleb Belos's old friend he was talking about? I'm sure mist people have already realized this but just wanted to put that out there

its heavily implied that belos killed him
becauae he started to like magic and probably regrets that he had to do it
or rather believed he had to do it

This kid was abused and lied to for years, left with insane PTSD, discovered he was ‘created’ and is a clone of someone, left with some crazy self image issues, got possessed by his abuser, almost died once (labyrinth runners), DID die once (thanks to them), lost his first ever friend… I could go on

Hunter is my favorite character in the owl house. He’s so goofy but he’s got one of the most complicated backstories which I love

Can we talk about how wholesome the moment where Eda reaches her hand to Hunter, like he was the right hand man of Belos that hurt her and her friends, but in that moment she saw what Hunter truly was in that moment, a scared kid that needed help
Luz and Gus: “Hey I noticed you blush around Willow a lot, why don’t you ask her out? It be nice for you to find some long term happiness in your life. Plus you guys would make a cute couple.”
Hunter: “Well I would but I-“
Belos: “That’s enough. Excuse me but you two leave my nephew out of this witchcraft, he’s already in a committed relationship with a nice young girl that I set him up with.”

That is actually really interesting cause it could be the this plot where luz (And maybe even camila cause she is the best mother there is) will go in his mindscape to know more about Caleb as hunter is his clone and there might be the memories of the 'other' golden guards as well as his maybe there could memories of like how did got his scars or something like that

Belos is the definition of cruel. The dude killed his 2nd in command and then just uses artificial human and witch DNA to make a clone out of him. The chaotic part is he just does it over and over again.
