This is literally me. I hate backgrounds so it's always a basic ass sky with some bushes, trees and stuff. Either that or it's a void full of random sparkles and effects because I'm lazy
Whenever I’ve lost motivation I just draw my animals as humans or fantasy creatures 👌👌 works every time My animals exist as adult humans, elves, college girls/frat boys, etc. in my brain and all have complicated backgrounds and world building to each one 😂
Another great tip, (which you demonstrated in this video,) is you framed your character! Everything in this piece ‘points’ to the center focal point, which in this case, is the character! Everything, from the clouds, to the trees, points your eyes to the center! Pretty neat!
So glad you mentioned the foreground too!! Always makes a peice of art more interesting when the 'simple' background interacts with the main subject of the drawing
Ok, two things, the first I love how you draw Lavandertown ❤️😍 and the second thank you TH-cam for the automatic subtitles to be able to understand the video! (since I speak Latin American Spanish 😓)
Another tip: pick a background FIRST and start do draw your character on that background. It's also useful to study colors, because you have to make the lighting on your character fits the background color scheme
this is going to save me when i have to make a 20 page illustrated children’s book as my chosen medium for my oceanography final. i’ve been so worried about what i should do for the backgrounds, i want them to look good, i have to make them quickly, but i still want them to look like they’ve had effort put into them. i don’t have much time left since i only get about a day or two off a week since this college quarter is a heavy load for me. thank you so so much!! ur a life saver lol
this is actually such a helpful tip!! I hate doing backgrounds and I think it's because I feel like I need to be so perfect with it, but I really like how this technique looks! definitely gonna try it!!
What I suggest for you to do is to take a color that is darker or different from the original color draw half of the background and put the blurring filter and keep putting that filter until it’s completely blurred :)
Blurring the different layers by distance is actually something I’ve never thought of, but makes a ton of sense, I’ve always blurred the whole thing! I’ll try this next time
Tip;during the beginning/middle of the day, the bottom of the sky is usually lighter than the rest. And when it starts to get darker, the bottom is the the darker part
I don't know how or why, but I always loved drawing backgrounds when I was little, so I don't have a hard time doing it, it's my favorite part when I'm working on my comic ^^
Another option is to use shape and lines for the background. I always enjoy drawing squares behind charactes.or just filling the background with diagonal lines
Yes and learning the art fundamentals can teach you a lot about where to put those branches and bushes whether it's showing the ground more or the air more
Yeah I do something really similar. Especially with landscapes or city scapes. Like hell I'm going to draw details on buildings... But having several, differently blurred and slightly differently coloured layers of buildings makes it look so sophisticated and finished. Then a few actual details in the front and we're good to go!
Something I like to do if I want to make a background is to switch into ips paint, it's free and it gives you paint brushes shaped like trees, grass and clouds and all you need to do to get them is just wach an add and take a screen shot and them boom! Pretty good background
I just straight up don't draw backgrounds unless it's really important. Like if they're sat on something I have to draw it or if they're looking at something
I personally don’t like blurry stuff in my art, I always make everything very shapely (imagine the smoke I draw has corners kinda stuff) but I actually even liked the unblurred background :) like it’s not the most beautiful on its own but it kinda has its charm as a simple background when it’s not the main point of the art
I like to do clouds with a low opacity, soft airbrush. I keep it at 50% or less and it looks more real when you build up the layers :) I add texture in afterwards with a scratchy dry-look paintbrush
“They don’t have to be particularly fancy”
Then draws a masterpiece
every drawing ring TH-camr ever but I do like LavenderTowne
These were literally just scribbled on XD
I'd like but that would break the 666
They weren’t fancy at all really- obviously everything takes practice but she was right in saying this is a lot easier than drawing actual trees
Sometimes not being fancy is the masterpiece
This is literally me. I hate backgrounds so it's always a basic ass sky with some bushes, trees and stuff. Either that or it's a void full of random sparkles and effects because I'm lazy
Me it's the opposite, I like backgrounds but hadn't gotten into people and anatomy yet
Don't we all do this 💀
I just add a single color and make it get darker along the edges💀
@@Ddozsoy me too 😭
@@Ddozsoy same except I do a colored circle
my backgrounds are just the void ☠️
Yeah my characters livin in hell 💀

Not only did you find me an awesome way to draw a background, but you also found and gave me back my MOTIVATION THAT HAS BEEN LOST FOR 4 WEEKS LMAO
Always happens to me when I watch one of her videos lmao, she's just that inspiring!
4 weeks? Pah, mine was lost for over a YeAR 😔
Thankfully it's started getting back tho
Whenever I’ve lost motivation I just draw my animals as humans or fantasy creatures 👌👌 works every time
My animals exist as adult humans, elves, college girls/frat boys, etc. in my brain and all have complicated backgrounds and world building to each one 😂
Anyone else have the urge to paint after watching this even though paint isn’t your medium?
ME 💀
Me. (I paint tho lol)
Me but when I finish my paintings they look like if hello kittys bow was run over and out into a meat grinder to be servers as lobster 💀

Oh my gosh, thank you so much for this! I'm terrible at drawing backgrounds this will help so much :D
Same I really needed this 😅
Same!
my backgrounds are just a void filled with pretty colors and sparkles 💖
i already knew how to draw backgrounds but the background you drew here has inspired me so thanks for the help :D
Thank you for this!! It’s beautiful
Another great tip, (which you demonstrated in this video,) is you framed your character!

Everything, from the clouds, to the trees, points your eyes to the center! Pretty neat!
How have I not thinked of this!
I think I'm just gonna keep them in the *_endless void💀_*
“If you’re loving your drawing until you have to draw the background… just draw a background!”
My characters just live in a single colored pocket dimension. They cannot escape, they have resigned to their fate.
Oh this’ll be helpfu- *dies in pencil artist**
Edit: guys I have procreate.. let’s go
nice
So glad you mentioned the foreground too!! Always makes a peice of art more interesting when the 'simple' background interacts with the main subject of the drawing
Ok, two things, the first I love how you draw Lavandertown ❤️😍 and the second thank you TH-cam for the automatic subtitles to be able to understand the video! (since I speak Latin American Spanish 😓)
You're amazing! I can finally learn to draw lmai
i just add a giant rotated red square behind the character, perfect.
Another tip: pick a background FIRST and start do draw your character on that background. It's also useful to study colors, because you have to make the lighting on your character fits the background color scheme

Hmm, you could try using the airbrush?
@@Infamous_Kitty Maybe, but I do try to like blur the inside and zoom in
@@1.Elliott.Draws.1 alright! Hopefully i helped you ^^
this is nearly a year old now but add your first color, then the second color below it and put the moving blur (90 rotation) at max
HOLY MOLEY THATS SOME WITCHCRAFT RIGHT THERE
thank you so much backgrounds have absolutely always been a struggle for me
This helped me so much like I hated doing the background so much because it always looked terrible

I love your art style and the final product of this!
Also, if you don’t mind me asking what app do you use? Or what apps do you recommend?
I realized most webtoon I read don't even have fancy bg (except few important scene) until I tried to draw a webtoon, lmaooooo

I can’t be the only one who finds her voice calming
“Take Ur gradient tool”
IbisPaint users:👁💧👄💧👁
yep me
I think theres a gradient tool in ibispaint somewhere
You can still do gradients, there’s probably a tutorial on TH-cam somewhere
What I suggest for you to do is to take a color that is darker or different from the original color draw half of the background and put the blurring filter and keep putting that filter until it’s completely blurred :)
What brush did you use for the trees?!? I need it now!
feels like the G-pen but i could be wrong

How do you come up with your own characters? Is it random or do you put a lot of thought into it?
she has some longer videos on how to design effective characters (:
Wait I missed something.. or is this just over my head..
Missed what?
oooh this looks gorgeous. damn. the blurring makes it look so 3D, thats perfect
Yes, PLEASE lens blur your background layers individually!! It adds so much depth to the artwork!
Someone on TH-cam recommended doing the backgrounds before the character. I started and it really does help
Blurring the different layers by distance is actually something I’ve never thought of, but makes a ton of sense, I’ve always blurred the whole thing! I’ll try this next time

GIRL I LOVE YOU THANK YOU! ❤❤I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN STRUGGLING ON MAKING BACKGROUNDS 😭😭
So helpful, thank you! *^*
What helped me was learning about color perspective. It is a quiet simple tool to add depth to a drawing.
as a person who's planning on making a cartoon on yt or just basic animations, this will probably help me a lot, so thank you!
Another option is to use shape and lines for the background. I always enjoy drawing squares behind charactes.or just filling the background with diagonal lines

Yes! Recently I've starting messing with Depth of Field and it is soooo fun.
but most importantly the colours that would compliment the main subject

No, it’s definitely the artist. Not only does pretty much every app have blur, but people make masterpieces in ms paint of all things
