I 100% feel the pain of not having energy, being out of ideas, not knowing where to start, being tired after searching for that one sound, and more. Is music making fun? Sure, when it is working out! I am glad you show the other side as well. Subscribed to support your process.
Finally some realistic insights into this process. It's exactly like that for some of us and not the perfect, pristine no mistakes videos everywhere on TH-cam. Thank you for posting, you could turn it into a music diary and share the struggle as well as the eureka moments, I think that would be appreciated. Either way good luck and have fun.
wow that's quite courages of you, putting even your vulnerable, boring and maybe embarrassing feeling moments out there!, thank you for reminding us that it's necessary and valuable to go through this
thank you for sharing augy! i like the range in your sound. i quit my tech job 3 months ago to do music full-time and now i produce professionally + work at a music venue doing live sound/lighting. if u really want to do this thing as a job and feel like you can't, know that it's possible. some things i've learnt: just dont stop, keep showing up, get good. i grew up not being allowed to listen to music - if i can do it you can do it. it's just the beginning for us, keep going! just remember - you can doubt the music, but you can't doubt yourself
I work as a software engineer, and love to make music on the side. This video is so relatable to me! basically forget everything I know about ableton over the last year as I only have time to focus on improving my guitar playing. And as an engineer, love the reference to an IDE lol def would watch this as a livestream on twitch
Yo lets go!!! Love to see the real stuff. Things are hard and beginnings can be even harder... The title of this video and what you speak about here are vary inspiring. It's like starting a camp fire or something the way you set it up and tend to it in the early stage is what helps it to grow bigger. I just started a new relationship about a week ago as in couple and its been great... there is what I like to call growing pains though where we are learning things about each other building the foundation so we can coexist with each other and a lot of work is being done to do that on both ends. Also me and my brother are working on a song and many things we are also learning for the first time so yeah I get what you mean. Thanks for the video its super cool! I might come back to this video when I start something new in my life or at least think about this video. New things are awesome though that means we are living a new experience and growing even if they can be hard its worth it in the end
I'm not a musician, but I totally feel the blocks in the creative process! It's really hard to get into a good flow but when you're there it's amazing and things tend to come naturally. I'm really interested in how your music develops 😊
This video is so relatable. I enjoy watching your creative process! I've been in a musical rut lately and haven't been able to write anything for a few months and you've given me some inspiration.
Yes we all have had 'bad' music ideas but as long as you learn from those bad ideas they're serving their purpose in helping you to move forward into good and great ideas. That's what writing music is to me. This is a very raw look at your process and I appreciate the less edited version with all of the experiences in making music kept in. Looking forward to seeing how things progressed.
Have been doing music production, mixing/mastering and engineering for almost 10 years, and I still have some of the struggles where my brain shuts down and can't do much in music haha
I love watching other peoples process we can relate to the struggle, hopefully soon i can start making videos doing the same instead of just posting my finished songs. Good luck with your journey we're on it with you. 😊
The more frustration with other things, like your crappy headphone jack, that will overlap into your overall mentality. Time for some new headphones maybe. I ended up getting the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro. Really nice sound. I'm just starting out so it's definately overwhelming knowing where to start and come up with original ideas. I think my problem is i'm too influenced by other music I enjoy, so i find myself humming tunes from other songs..lol One other thing, I have this Olympus VN-541PC Digital Voice Recorder, it's small and fits in your pocket. So if you come up with a tune or a song while out, you can just hit record and save the ideas. Then just play them back later. Good luck with the music.
I prefer the old school approach of writing demos. You can stick to acoustic instruments that always sound great. If you have an idea that sounds good with just a piano or rhodes then you know its something that deserves more polishing. Seems like everyone wants to write, record, produce, sound design, mix, and master all at the same time. Stick to demos so that the creativity can run. I do the wake up early thing as well. I get so much done that way
Great video. This is definitely how I feel right now. I haven't been in a music-making mood since 2020, when we had that thing that shall not be named. I keep downloading FL Studio and deleting it after a few days because I just can't find the inspiration. I want to find that spark I once had.
Focus on one thing at a time and take breaks when you need them. Also deleting and re-downloading the DAW I feel is not really helping in anyway so just keep it on there so when you do get a spark you're not having to do a download the DAW before you start. Find something that inspires you in life maybe and take a break from music. Music is more easy to make when you are making music about life then trying to make music for life. You can do both but, making something from nothing is a big drain even though there is beauty in that as well. Also if you're keen here is a few music artist that may help you with some idea's... The Amity Affliction, Veela, Covet .... im sure there is something for you with one of them artist. Much Love!
@@x-STORMXX-x Thank you so much for your valuable insight! I truly appreciate it and will definitely explore the artists you mentioned. I'll also make a point to stop deleting the DAW and instead focus on finding inspiration to spark my creativity. It’s amazing how a few kind words can reignite passion-thank you for being that spark today!
@@sipi_b I think we should look after each other in this world and I try and be the change I want to see in the world as I can't change the world. I'm not perfect and I for sure have my own short comings like any other person. You're more then welcome and im happy I was able to help even if just a little. I do what I can to put love in this world because it gets cold sometimes it really does.
Nice work! It's challenging being a songwriter these days... But also lots of opportunity. This video has inspired me to make a video like this. I'm dreading the editing though =)
Great video. The process is daunting at times but you are getting back into it. Don't expect miracles. You are doing it. Trying it's all that matters. When we were younger we had so much more free time on our hands to work on projects. Now that we are a bit older we have to put our time elsewhere like adulting. So we may not have a lot of time for our dreams because we have to put food on the table pay the bills which requires work. 😢 But you are trying and succeeding at your creative passions. Look on the positive side. It has been awhile and you still have the skills to create. It's a win!!! (Yay!!)😅 I love to watch the creative process.. getting the sounds that are inside your head out into life is difficult.. I would like for you to have a youtube channel with your music you created.. Maybe call it "AUGY - MUSIC" I had a hard time finding your music. I didn't have it book marked. So please create a centralized channel for all viewers /:listeners can hear your music 🎵 Since I discovered you I like to listen to your music from time to time.. I like the vibe that you are creating 😊
I’ve noticed with me when I get my physical and mental health in check I do much better . Also , if I get my hormones correct , my mind is much more clear . It’s very hard and time consuming making music , but I feel like for us musicians it’s a bug that never goes away.
YT suggested me your video :) I related so much ahahah. Been on music production since my 20’s. Produced many different styles. I like your voice and I have a few musics that need a singer. Let me know if you would like to listen them and eventually a collaboration just borns 🍀
@ I'm currently poor at sound engineering. There is a perfect tune in my head but searching for that tune in my DAW (logic x) is a pain in the *$$. However, sometimes I find a tune so similar and I struggle to make it sound like the tune that is running in my head. I suck at filters! Did you get the idea of what I'm telling you?
Interesting process. You could maybe sit on a higher piano bench in order to be more comfortable playing while inventing piano parts. I'm all admiration for people who can song-write. I sank a ton of hours into trying to come up with ideas and take even one of them to fruition, but I realized I'm not that guy. I can see how your process would eventually lead to a song with a fresh feel, kind of like Rachel Collier's process does. Good luck, and keep having fun!!
I know, it's great! I've had an asmr video in plans with this keyboard / or something of rain sounds videos kind but with keyboard sounds :D I had to find the box to remember the exact model: Akko MOD007B with Kailh ice cream pink switches. I think you can get different looks, mine is sakura
If you just plug it in, it works like a midi keyboard where you can play different notes. I think there are also ways to program it to customize but i haven't tried it. I haven't figured out how to change octaves on it in the default mode, so i just use the small m-audio controller which has buttons for it
Ahh I'm documenting this process too!! Liked and subscribed, let's go 🚀 As an ex-tech guy who is now transitioning to creating stuff, lmao at you saying IDE instead of DAW by mistake Also all my songs so far have pretty much had the lyrics of "I don't know what I'm doing" so I feel very seen watching you sing the same stuff while you're noodling (as shown here lol th-cam.com/video/YGNxfy_3RVI/w-d-xo.html)
this video makes me angry, she is literaly not using her brain. just doodling on different things, not trying to pinpoint a sound of a song, start with one idea and develop it. let the music and instruments sing for them self, not your stress and anxiety

50% distraction, 30% chaos and 20% progress, this is what usually happens during a song making progress for beginner producers like us.
this was so helpful

I was wondering if others struggled the same way I do lol, the curse of endlessly checking sounds haunts us 😂
The m-audio mini 32 was my first midi keyboard, i love that it fits perfectly into a laptop bag so it's like having a portable studio in a bag.
