I'd recommend Katana Zero! Its a 2D action platformer where your an assassin hunting people down with your katana. The main appeal is being able to slow down time to weave behind your enemies sheilds and deflect bullets back. Its gets pretty hard, but you can beat it in a day and its so worth it. Its the type of game where I found myself wanting to immediately replay the whole thing since it was so tight. Not to mention the soundtrack is a banger and the pixel art is amazing. Highly highly recommend

Bravely Default 2 was fun at the beginning. But as you said, it quickly becomes a slog. Too much farming, balance is whack, difficulty makes no sense at all (like bosses doing the exact opposite of what their dungeon was preparing you for) and story couldn't be more bland.
Out of all the games I’ve played this year my absolute favorite HAS to be Omori. It’s genuinely one of the very few games that actually made me cry. Seriously if you like story driven games ABSOLUTELY go check it out, it’s a really freaking good game
I loved bravely default, the characters were awesome and they felt almost real, except for Tiz who had almost no personality but Edea made up for it, but I couldn't bring myself to play bravely second because the game felt SO much different because of the soundtrack composer. When they announced that the composer for Bravely Default 2 was Revo i was hyped af, but I started the game and I found it kinda boring :( I don't feel dragged to it like i felt for bravely default.

Great gameplay, decent characters, pretty good story if you played the original. After that, maybe Risk Of Rain 2 because it had co-op.
my favourite game this year was probably neo: the world end with you. it's extremely stylish, got me into twewy, really deserved more marketing. would recommend it to anyone, it's on switch, ps4, something else probably and EpIc gAmeS sTOre. another is deltarune chp.2, but i'm not gonna say that because it's just one part being added to an incomplete game so far. spoiler alert for deltarune chp.2 ahead. go play it, its real good. free and short, jus do it. i played the snowgrave route, not thinking much of it- JESUS CHRIST. shit's nightmare fuel. and the final boss, JEEZ. i'm glad i finally did it, but it's practically a horror game now. it's a good message to the player ab the nature of controlling some puppet, and that the character, kris, can't do anything. it's all in the code, pre-determined. nothing matters. real interested in what happens next. maybe i can be a bigshot, idk. take it away, toby.
You might have already played it, but Dragon's Dogma is a really cool albeit flawed ARPG made by campcom. It's on switch and basically any other platform (often on sale on pc for less than 10 bucks). It's a bit of a mix of all different kinds of games, with some nice twists of it's own. However if you feel like you don't understand something or feel confused, do not hesitate using the internet .The game is probably played best with some sort of outside knowledge since it doesn't explain a lot, but I would still recommend keeping most of the game fresh and see how far you can come until you need a guide :}
crumble has a great finale that made all my struggling with the first playthrough worth it. wizard of legend is a personal favorite. really like slime-san. though ninjin clash of carrots was interesting as a blend between a shoot em up and beat em up. i liked heart and slash, think i near 100%ed it back when it'd crash fairly constantly, haven't picked it up since the fix.
I bought FE3H on a whim over summer when it was on sale for $50 (including DLC) and it’s now my second most played Switch game, clocking in at 800 hours… only Splatoon 2 has more hours at 1000 something I never expected to play a Fire Emblem game this much, but wow… I was just sucked in! I still have team builds I’d like to do in the future, I’ll wait until it’s a bit more fresh again for me… I’m definitely looking forward to a new Fire Emblem game though, there’s a lot they could improve on (mostly optimization wise tbh)
I like how all of these games have their own unique identity to write home about. Much better than any of the triple AAA nonsense I’ve been seeing to no end since I was born. (Except doom eternal. That game is fucking great) Your sense of humor really does compliment these games as well, it’s almost too perfect.
I recommend the Yakuza series. Its one of those games where you got to hell, kill hell's owner, and comeback unscaved, only to say"Wait thats chapter 1?". Also it has karaoke

I only started mhs2 and aren't very far but so far I agree with everything you said on it, I could never finish the first game and only got like halfway through, from the little I;ve played of 2 I like some of the new mechanics that make gameplay more interesting, actually having skills at the start makes early gameplay way more fun than literally just rock paper scissors for the first third of the first game. Also, WHY DID THEY BRING NAVIROU BACK HE WAS THE WORST PART OF MHS1. Every time he jokes about a monster trying to eat him, I look at the monster and go "please, I'm begging you, do as the man says"
I'm sad no one else loves Bravely Default II the way I do. I guess it was just made for me, haha. It feels like an SNES RPG, even with simple story and character interactions, and it felt fresh and nostalgic for me. I bought it on Switch and again on Steam to get all the achievements. I adore it so much!! That being said, the first one was much better. The ending third of that game boosts it up to be one of the best games I've ever played.
For the games that I've both played and enjoyed: Ruined King - Turn based RPG with fresh combat mechanics, good story, solid soundtrack. Game can be a little buggy so wait for a patch. Star Renegades - Roguelite with a simiar combat system to Ruined King, but since it's a roguelite, there's far more risks you gotta take. Great game, looks amazing but is really hard. Spiritfarer - Very touching game where you guide spirits on your boat and grant their final wishes so they can pass on to the afterlife, it's a lovely experience. Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Tactical RPG, imagine a DnD campaign in game form, that's what this game is. Lots of flexibility in how you approach the game, very replayable. Xenoblade Chronicles: DE - What I would consider to be the king of JRPGs, the combat is great (it takes time to like it), the OST slaps and the story is great. Horizon: Zero Dawn - Action RPG where robot animals took over the world and a corrupting virus is causing those animals to rampage all innocents, go save the world. NieR Replicant - Another Action RPG, but with a heavy focus on the story and replaying that story from other perspectives. Yoko Taro made it, so it's depressing goodness. New World - MMORPG, I liked it, the world felt alive, the combat felt fresh (even though it's rusty), and grinding didn't feel like a chore. Endgame is wack tho. Disco Elysium - Visual novel, but instead of a normal visual novel, this plays more like an RPG. The amount of variety and polish in this game is insanity, play it if you haven't. Voice of Cards - Rather basic JRPG in terms of combat, but the visual style is great, everything in the world is made up by cards, story is great and the OST slaps. The Darkside Detective 2 - Point & click game where great storytelling collides with dry humour and insanely random things, it's a blast to experience the story. Inmost - A puzzle platforming story that changes point of view between 3 characters each chapter, it looks gorgeous and the animations are really well done, lovely story as well. As for the games you mentioned in the video and I've played myself: Monster Hunter Stories 2 - What can I say, I just really liked playing this game with my friends to make the strongest monster I could imagine, also Oltura is the sickest monster I've ever seen in a monster hunter game, fight me. Monster Hunter Rise - Honestly wasn't blown away by it myself, I loved the combat and the music was great but the locales felt boring and not alive at all, unlike in world. I know this title isn't meant to be World 2 but as someone who has only experienced World before, this didn't feel as polished as World was. Though I'm very excited for the PC release and Sunbreak down the line, maybe the lack of stunning grahpics, smooth framerate and easy accesable multiplayer hindered my experience too, so I hope Rise PC will lift my experience with the original Switch release. Hades - Loved the combat system but it felt too easy and didn't punish you hard enough, I cranked the difficulty up by a lot after beating the main story but even then it didn't feel rewarding enough to keep playing, maybe the charm is in all the sidecharacter's stories, idk. Loved the game though, but got burned out by it pretty quickly.

My personal favorite was definitely Neo: The World Ends With You or Neo:twewy Really love the game and the best part is you decide almost exactly how difficult you want to make it for yourself. Since it’s a square game you can obviously get away with playing the entire thing at level 1 on the hardest difficulty. (Only do this if you’re an epic gamer because a minority of enemies will one hit you *cough* scorpion noise *cough*)
I loved hotshot racing a lot unfortunately on the switch the online lobbies were pretty empty hopefully it gets a big jump in players one of these days

Yeah on some of the levels there are, but on that one specifically you spawn right on the button that speeds up the platforms, and I couldn't find one that makes them regular speed. I am pretty bad at the game overall though, so maybe I'm just blind haha
Okay, no. There IS a twist at the very end of the game after experiencing the two bad endings. The twist isn't as crazy as the first game, but the execution also isn't as off-putting. A LOT of people complained about making you repeat the same sequences over and over again for immersion, so this game learned from those criticisms. The first game turned into the Endless 8 from Haruhi. I really appreciated it BECAUSE I was starting to hate it, as that was the point of that part of the game but too many people said it ruined the game for them because they didn't like the immersion. Also if you've played plenty of other games with job systems why didn't you make your own builds instead of copying others? I had a lot of fun creating my own builds, they weren't as efficient as meta builds but they still got the job done.
Totally agree. It was part of the reason I never ended up finishing the first game. I think BD2 gets labelled as bland and boring partly because of people that have played the other two games and already know what to expect, etc. Basically the same was said in this video. I felt similarly on my first playthrough of BD2 but after restarting with a more open mind I enjoyed it 5x more.
About MHST2, Red is supposed to be the main character from the first game i think? Which doesn't explain why he died but the other characters from 1 look the exact qame as they did in 1?
You don't tilt the stages in Super Monkey Ball, that's a weird misconception people got. You just move the camera with your left stick also, which gives the illusion that you're tilting the stages.
Didn’t really play a lot of new game Thai year but my favorite one was fire emblem echoes. I really like Alm as A protagonist and the gameplay is nice The maps or kind of bad but it’s a remake of an old game so I wasn’t expecting much there. Other than that everything else is amazing the soundtrack the voice acting just a good game overall.
not gonna lie, i think silver snow is really misunderstood. the whole route is about a tragic story of being forced to kill someone who you don’t want to (edelgard) and the plot and writing regarding that is actually really good imo. verdant wind on the other hand basically copy+pastes this whole story except it’s completely meaningless because edelgard wasn’t your house leader. verdant wind’s plot is basically non-existent however it does have a really good protagonist who does develop. silver snow on the other hand has byleth as the protagonist who is a self insert, so basically a non-character - and that’s it’s biggest flaw (along with the fact that everything after edelgard’s death is pretty much meaningless). i think, whilst it’s easier just to say “church route”, i think it’s inaccurate to call it that. it’s supposed to be about tragically killing edelgard, not about the church and seteth. i made a video about silver snow that goes into detail on how i think it could be changed to be better (stolen idea from Armads4Prez): th-cam.com/video/NVyymFZCUa8/w-d-xo.html
I freaking loved Stories 2 but I also played 1 so maybe that's why. Also the final boss didn't kick my ass like it did to you but I was basically using a Nargacuga the whole game so lol I didn't look up any tips either I was just like "oh shit" when he started doing his bullshit and cranked out the heals

In Monster Hunter Stores 2 I was pretty reasonably leveled and I looked up how to beat the final boss before starting it.

The fact that BD2 was developped by a different studio than the previous two could also have played a role.

As someone who played Bravely Default 2., not only is this game boring, it its also one of my least favorite JRPGs of 2021.

Yeah on some of the levels there are, but on that one specifically you spawn right on the button that speeds up the platforms, and I couldn't find one that makes them regular speed. I am pretty bad at the game overall though, so maybe I'm just blind haha

Okay, no. There IS a twist at the very end of the game after experiencing the two bad endings. The twist isn't as crazy as the first game, but the execution also isn't as off-putting. A LOT of people complained about making you repeat the same sequences over and over again for immersion, so this game learned from those criticisms.
The first game turned into the Endless 8 from Haruhi. I really appreciated it BECAUSE I was starting to hate it, as that was the point of that part of the game but too many people said it ruined the game for them because they didn't like the immersion.
Also if you've played plenty of other games with job systems why didn't you make your own builds instead of copying others? I had a lot of fun creating my own builds, they weren't as efficient as meta builds but they still got the job done.
Totally agree. It was part of the reason I never ended up finishing the first game. I think BD2 gets labelled as bland and boring partly because of people that have played the other two games and already know what to expect, etc. Basically the same was said in this video. I felt similarly on my first playthrough of BD2 but after restarting with a more open mind I enjoyed it 5x more.
About MHST2, Red is supposed to be the main character from the first game i think? Which doesn't explain why he died but the other characters from 1 look the exact qame as they did in 1?
Metroid dread in my opinion should be at 2nd or 3rd place. The details, graphics, action and gameplay of dread is superb
You don't tilt the stages in Super Monkey Ball, that's a weird misconception people got. You just move the camera with your left stick also, which gives the illusion that you're tilting the stages.

Didn’t really play a lot of new game Thai year but my favorite one was fire emblem echoes. I really like Alm as A protagonist and the gameplay is nice The maps or kind of bad but it’s a remake of an old game so I wasn’t expecting much there. Other than that everything else is amazing the soundtrack the voice acting just a good game overall.
not gonna lie, i think silver snow is really misunderstood. the whole route is about a tragic story of being forced to kill someone who you don’t want to (edelgard) and the plot and writing regarding that is actually really good imo. verdant wind on the other hand basically copy+pastes this whole story except it’s completely meaningless because edelgard wasn’t your house leader. verdant wind’s plot is basically non-existent however it does have a really good protagonist who does develop. silver snow on the other hand has byleth as the protagonist who is a self insert, so basically a non-character - and that’s it’s biggest flaw (along with the fact that everything after edelgard’s death is pretty much meaningless). i think, whilst it’s easier just to say “church route”, i think it’s inaccurate to call it that. it’s supposed to be about tragically killing edelgard, not about the church and seteth.

Also the final boss didn't kick my ass like it did to you but I was basically using a Nargacuga the whole game so lol I didn't look up any tips either I was just like "oh shit" when he started doing his bullshit and cranked out the heals

1.) the ability to put genes in any slot.
it just allowed you to make creative builds without insane luck
2.)The new weapons/mechanics were a nice touch
3.) Multiplayer was fun.
things I didn't like with 2 was Ratha being kinda lame for the whole game and world was so much smaller/borning then the environments of mhs1.

I loved bravely default, the characters were awesome and they felt almost real, except for Tiz who had almost no personality but Edea made up for it, but I couldn't bring myself to play bravely second because the game felt SO much different because of the soundtrack composer. When they announced that the composer for Bravely Default 2 was Revo i was hyped af, but I started the game and I found it kinda boring :( I don't feel dragged to it like i felt for bravely default.
