  • @Soleylou
    @Soleylou ปีที่แล้ว +76

    As a nail tech & someone getting to grips with resin, I can tell you that you’ll get a better hold if you don’t run the powder to the absolute edges 😉 Also, get some angel paper, cut it slightly smaller than the mold & make that your middle layer, it looks amazing 🤩 One more tip, if you find that your powder isn’t sticking as much as you’d like, slightly undercure the resin so it’s a tiny bit sticky then apply the powder. Finish off the curing after. Hope all this helps 😊

    • @daniel..cooper
      @daniel..cooper  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Awesome tips, thanks Louise 😊 👍 Will order in some more bits soon 😊😊

    • @Soleylou
      @Soleylou ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@daniel..cooper no worries. Naio nails do a selection of 8 or 10 angel papers for about £10 I think. I’ve got some & it’s good quality. You could also use UV gel top coat in between layers so that it’s really thin, you’ve got more control & won’t ‘poke it with your tool’ 🤣🤣

    I like and use this technique on my earrings and pendants. There are dozens of Chinese YT channels showing this, they use many of the gel nail accessories, powders, varnish and gems. I used to use my powders while embossing but all of them work brilliantly on and in resin. With many of these powders, especially the nail ones, you can brush them straight onto your mould then pour the resin in, depends on the look you're after.

    If you cut Mylar up, use the right colours of aurora powder, it looks just like opal. Oh, and you’ll need to leave a larger ‘layer’ in the back, coat the sides to cover up any layer effect if there is any. If you want black opal, but a dark grey/blue layer on the back- just like in nature.

    • @daniel..cooper

      @KARENNEILL9109 Can you explain more about what you mean to “leave a larger layer in the back, and to coat the sides? How do I do that?

    • @karenneill9109
      @karenneill9109 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tanyacollins9003 If you use Mylar sheets, you’ll have to put resin on top of it (it will end up on the back of the piece). Otherwise it will stick out, peel off, and generally look horrible. As for a coat on the sides, simply brush a coat around the edges after you’re finished. If the piece doesn’t have a defined ‘side’, you’d maybe have to put another dome coat over the whole thing so that the edges aren’t visibly layered. Does that make sense?

    @debrajol3585 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Brilliant! How cool is that?! Daniel I’ve done something similar to this but I put tidbits/triangles or whatever tiny shapes into it using deli paper. I coated it with a thin resin layer and then put the chameleon powders on then another resin layer. After I had an assortment I cut up pieces ✂️ of the treated deli paper and placed them into the resin inside the molds. The deli paper becomes invisible and what is left looks like is floating flashes of colored lights. Also made some deli paper with just resin that had pigment pastes as colorants.. same thing happened, the papers were invisible and the colors could be added to anything (molds, canvases etc) in any shapes or strips.. even all the tiny trash cutoffs are usable so nothing is wasted. Sometimes when I am just winging it with a project and I get lost in where I was heading, I’ll pull out the deli papers I’ve created & finish with those. Also, interference colors with a black background on deli paper is really cool. Especially when it’s single colors and they’re placed along with other colors in the same pendant or molds. Like one interference violet and one blue paper bits or red with gold bits. Looks like opal but better bc it’s not limited by nature 👌. Thanks for sharing.. these are pretty incredible 🤩. (I got the deli paper from the donut section of the grocery store. I asked the lady if I could grab a few if I paid for a donut 😂

      @debrajol3585 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@daniel..cooper it’s been a few years ago. I gave most of them as gifts and some went in a box of my resin creations for someday. I save all the runoff from canvases and everything to use later. But it’s so simple. Use the deli papers like it’s a canvas. Resin - color/powder - resin. If it’s just pigment paste or whatever plain color I just painted it on and that was it.
      I used 2 part resin bc UV wasn’t a thing yet. But UV will be the same without the wait. You’ll see the moment the resin hits the paper it goes invisible. ~I forgot to mention to do it on plastic sheeting (I used canvases I hadn’t unwrapped yet or the wrap after I used the canvas) or silicone mats bc it soaks in the papers.. but pops off after it cures. It’s so much fun bc it’s endless. If I can find them I’ll send you pics 👌 also the smaller (let’s resin) skull molds were fantastic.. they sell a set that is skulls and aliens that make amazing pendants. Happy Arting!

    Aye! I've not commented on one of your tutorials in ages. I didn't know what to say about the progression of your skills and the well-deserved recognition for the talent that you possess and were brave enough to have uploaded a video of yourself kindly walking strangers through your process step by step,including tge steps you take to prevent mistakes from ruining your final results ,which was the most educational and effective set of tutorials I had cone across in the 13 years I've been creating with epoxy. I enjoy the craft far better now than I did before TH-cam was a thing, and I wanted to make sure that I gave you proper credit for helping me become a better artist .

    I literally just made a pair of earrings yesterday using holographic nail powder. I like this layering effect better, though. They are beautiful!!

    They ARE crazy and insane! I agree that the domed shape helps set off the flash of color. I don't think a flat surface would be as brilliant. Definitely worth trying though. They would at least look pretty.

    WOW!!! Those are absolutely amazing! I'm definitely going to try this technique as soon as my supplies come in. They remind me of moonstone.

    You gave the resin an almost chatoyant quality. Well done! What is next for faux stones? Resin is so exciting because we can do almost anything with it.

    That’s awesome! Inspired my next piece but how to do you make the tear drop resin beads into pendants??? Also stones like labradorite and such will have scratch like marks :D

    Dude, I can't keep up with you!! I wasn't even done watching this and somehow those powders jumped into my Amazon cart. I need more days off work to play with resin. Thank you again for experimenting and sharing with us.
