I greatly appreciate the fact that you make these videos for those people who may not be able to afford the new RF equipment. I personally use a Canon RF100-300 F/2.8, but prior to that, I was using the Sigma 120-300 F/2.8 and for me it was a great lens in conjunction with my Canon camera. If you get a hold of that lens you should review it. Because I never owned the Canon 300 mm 2.8 and I can personally say from experience I would rather have that Sigma 120-300 mm f/2.8 versus than the Canon 300mm f/2.8. And that is the reason why I bought the Sigma in the first place.
Great video Joe of my favorite lens! I shoot sports - this 300mm lens is so versatile and works wonderfully with the 1.4x tc (fast, accurate and sharp). I'll never give it up for anything! Paired with the R6 or 1DX its awesome and if I need more reach I go crop with the 7Dii or R7. This collection gives you 300 f2.8, 420 f4 or 480 f2.8
I’ve always been scared of going for it for the fear of it being too heavy to handhold!! F/5.6 400mm is another of those versatile hand held lenses, which is the size and weight I’m used to
Thanks for this! I need to replace a 120-400 and need something 400mm+, this with a teleconverter might be an option if the AF doesn't slow down too much, I shoot sports and want something from when I am shooting from a distance in a stadium. Always appreciate your videos!

I currently have the rf 100 - 500 L lens which is great, but really struggles in low light (which is mostly all we get in ireland) and loses some sharpness and focus speed. How would the ef 300mm f2.8 compare, with the teleconcerters? Would the autofocus/image quality be comparable? I was considering selling the 100-500 for one of these and the teleconverters, but am consious of losing reach and potentially image quality? Not sure if you've used the 100-500 but curious on your thoughts.
Hi Alan, Not used the 100-500 but have done some videos using convertors on this lens; th-cam.com/video/ZviNfluRhAQ/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/y9MCFw7_ICQ/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/G6l_UZ5PLRE/w-d-xo.html I hope these help!

Definitely one I'd love to try. Would also love to get my hands on the RF 100-300!

How do you find it on the R7? I never found the focusing as fast?
@@joewhitnallphotography I found it accurate, it was a borrowed R7 but most of my use is with the 7Dii and R6.

You'd definitely want to invest in a monopod - its quite heavy to haul around!
