Ruth Hunter that's so wonderful to hear. I couldn't afford to travel when I was younger and I worried if I'd still be able to do so now that I'm older. Making up for that time now and I've been traveling for the last 3 years now.
I'm 65 and lost my husband a year ago. I've always wanted to travel - he wasn't into it at all. I've reached the place where I feel like I'm emotionally ready to strike out on my own. I had the opportunity to book a very small guided tour of Scotland in 2020. I hope it's the impetus to travel more - even if it's to the beach or the Grand Canyon!! Thanks for sharing your story!
Hey, I live in Aberdeen, Scotland. You will love it here. The scenery and the people make our country. Any visitor automatically becomes and honorary Scot 😎🏴
I've been preaching this about literally any activity that society considers to be a social event: clubbing, movies, theater, fancy dinner, concerts(!!!!), travel, you name it. To you, dear reader: nothing shall stop you from enjoying anything. Take yourself to the movies, go to the concert of the artist you've loved for years. If I had waited for someone to accompany me, out of the 12 concerts I saw last year, I'd seen 2. Carpe diem.
THIS THIS THIS!! I went to the movies by myself for the first time a couple years ago... IT WAS A GAME CHANGER. I LOVE going to the movies by myself now!
I soo much agree! I didn't have a boyfriend for the last three years and why should I miss out on something (like a movie none of my friends want to see), just because there will be a handful of people who "pity" you for it/ look at you in a weird way. I don't get why society still stigmatises you for that...
Preach. I totally go for concerts alone because it is difficult to find people who share the same music taste as you and who are available. I felt bad-ass the first time I did it (X
You are SO right. For me, it started with the movies. I was off work during the week and wanted to see this movie (that I can't even remember). I decided to go alone because everyone else was working and I could get that sweet matinee price. It was amazing. I realized I don't "need" anyone for activities - I "like" having people for those things. Plus, I noticed I actually like myself. So I began "taking myself on dates." I haven't made big solo travel plans like Allison, but I have been doing solo things for a while. Conquer that fear of being alone!
@@allisonanderson me too! Especially when it's a movie you really want to see. When you go with people they tend to TALK OVER THE MOVIE geezz before you know it you done missed the whole movie hahaha lol. #Soloalways
I've been solo traveling for two years now and it's literally the best! It teaches you so much about who you are and that you are capable of so much more than you ever thought possible.
It also teaches you the people in this world are much nicer then what we are lead to believe. I met so many good folks out on my travels. It was the best part of my trip.
I have started traveling alone when I was 23 and it was the BESTTTT DECISION OF MY LIFE! I have been to so many places and created so many memories. I am only 25 and still have a lot to see but I'm so ready
I spent years not traveling anywhere because I didn't have anyone to travel with. I'm 32 and now all I do is travel solo. I started with trips domestically and I'm taking my first trip to London in a couple months. Loved this video.
EVERY TIME I travel somewhere people ask me why I'm going alone and what you said is the exact answer I give them: nobody can come with me but I really want to travel so I'm doing it by myself. Also I found it's a way to discover myself because literally nobody is bithering me so I have time to spend with myself and my thoughts and to clear things out. The best thing imo though is that I'm able to do whatever I want whenever I want: if I want to wake up at 5am to go sit during 3 hours on a bench watching a city wake up, I can, and if I want to do absolutely nothing, I can too. Really great video that explains everything pretty well!
OMG I totally agree. It's so freeing going by yourself as well. I love planning my own days & itinerary. I also love learning more about myself & meeting amazing people along the way 💛
I started solo travelling because I want to have these life experiences. That's it. Do I wish I had friends who could go with me and make me feel safer while doing it? Sure. But when I do it alone it's just as fun. There are definetly parts that make you anxious and scary but you grow so much. It's a 100% worth it.
I totally agree. I love travelling with people, but I also really love solo travelling. You learn so much about yourself & meet a lot of amazing people along the way. 💛
@@nandiniputtarudraiah3618 Sometimes, but you have to be honest and admit that even day to day life is lonely in general. Loneliness is not a reason to stop yourself from experiencing travel. Wouldn’t you rather be lonely in a villa by the beach than at home? 😂 but also the loneliness for me has been very short lived, I’ve always made friends and connections as my travel journey went on :)
I usually try skyscanner.com for flights, Airbnb/booking.com/hostelworld for places to stay. I usually make a list of must see/do things of the city i'm going to travel and If I have free time I usually explore/ask locals what they recommend
Just do research, use skyscanner for flights. I never knew anything about se asia 2 months ago, decided to do some research on what there is in se asia it seemed like a cheap, fun and interesting place to learn about the culture of se asia, as well as learn about my self. Did more research on flights, etc, etc, etc. Sold my motorcycle 3 weeks ago and now have a flight booked June 7th to Vietnam without a ticket home. I'm planning on solo traveling for 2 months with a budget of $6,000, which should be plenty! If it's something you want to do all it takes is some hard work and the will to do it.
Solo traveling FORCES me to meet new people & create friendships that would have never otherwise existed. With that said, does anyone want to go on a trip to Asia in the coming months? HAha not joking
Weird cat Hostels are awesome. Even if you never stay in touch with the awesome people you meet, it gives you people to hang out with during your trip. Also, people who work in hostels are knowledgeable about the area which is helpful. Hostels also put on events as well. Did a biking tour over Golden Gate Bridge and a walking tour through hostel I stayed at.
I started traveling solo 5 years ago when I was 56. This last five years I’ve been to 22 countries and many cities. I met so many interesting people and some of them became my best friends. I so encourage all women be courageous and live your dream :)
@@sherryjackson8474 It's embarrassing that I only speak fluently two languages and a bit of French and a bit of Italian. But, I'm still learning everyday :)
Solo travelling is actually so underrated. I’m 22 and just so addictive with travelling. I went Vienna last month and going Prague this week. You will definitely meet a lot of travellers, in hostels, taking pics at tourist sites. It takes experience but eventually it’s easy to just start a conversation with them and ask them where they’re from etc. Solo travelling , you feel ALOT more free and you can do whatever you want
That's my thing too. I'm so interested in the idea of solo travel and truly believe if I was male I would have done a dozen solo trips by now. But as a female I always feel cautious and on edge when I'm alone. Like I always have to be looking over my shoulder. I always wonder how girls who travel alone feel safe enough to do so.
@@Laura-pn9eo Agreed! I'm introverted and enjoy solo activities but I (and my mom) think I'm a walking target doing anything alone - let alone being somewhere outside my bubble.
I agree. This is my fear as well. Like would it only be safe to go out during the day and stay in at night? I would never feel comfortable at a bar or club alone.
Cozette Eastman you should consider hostels. You will get to meet SO many people; and do activities with them such as going out at night AND day. So you're truly never alone, unless you decide to be.
This popped up in my feed. Yeah I'm a guy but this still applies. I'm 71 and some "seniors (okay I hate this word)" are nervous too. if I waited for someone else to travel my way I'd wait all my life and not to do anything. No one seems to want to hike every day, or snorkel every day, or spend a whole vacation painting on location, or whatever it might be. "Would you go alone or not at all?" Best question ever.
exactly, if you constantly wait for someone to join you you will miss out on so much! Im very shy but I'm trying to push through it and go solo. Ive gone to Mexico solo 3 times but haven't had the courage to go anywhere else...yet!
Last year (2018) I made the leap ....and went to Greece my very first trip abroad, SOLO! Best experience ever! I'm currently planning my next solo trip to South America! Love your videos! I wish we could be friends in real life! Lol
Omg! This is exactly my life. I have a weird work schedule and all my friends have kids or are married. I just drove across country to the Grand Canyon through Route 66. So glad I’m not alone!
Don’t wait! I’m in my fifties and I love to travel and I know too many people that say “I’ll do it someday” and something happens and they can’t. Do it.
That's right! I love solo travelling. You learn so much about yourself & meet so many amazing people along the way. 😉💛. Can't wait to be able to travel again after the pandemic
Amen! Solo travel is much more fun than it seems...You get to go where you want to go, Do what you want to do, and Explore things at you own pace. It's very liberating and it ups your confidence too😊
I traveled solo to Barcelona 2 years ago to celebrate my 60th Birthday! Had a great time. I am a very independent person and enjoyed coming and going as I pleased and on my schedule. Hope to go back to Europe again within the next year. Still deciding the destination. So much history and so much to see
I’m a jr in high school & I have no friends, but that doesn’t really bother me because I’m very independent. So I found out about solo traveling, I immediately jumped onto the internet for solo travel guides & I’m looking forward to travel somewhere a bit after high school. Thank you everyone for sharing you stories & thank you to this TH-cam channel for your story as well
I am a solo traveler myself and I have to say I can proudly say that. If nobody else wants to keep me company to travel abroad, then why not do it on my own? There’s certainly nothing more challenging to do. It allows me fully enjoy each place I visit without depending on anybody else. I plan on still keep doing it whenever I can :)
Experience makes you a more interesting person. Travel with your loved one, travel alone, travel with friends! Just get out there & experience things. You’ll love it, no matter what😁
I totally agree with this msg. Experiences are so important in life. Solo travelling definitely has made the person I am today. I also love travelling with my husband, friends as well. 😉💛 Can't wait to be able to travel again
I LOVE traveling solo! I started small--a night here, a few nights there--and now I feel comfortable going farther and for longer by myself. Something I didn't expect to feel is the sense of pride in being able to take a trip and deal with the inevitable changes of plans or unexpected issues and only having myself to rely on. It's well and good to depend on the people who support us, but it's also great to know that I can handle difficult situations. I hadn't planned on traveling solo, but I realized there were so many places I wanted to see and things I wanted to experience that my friends or family didn't really care about/didn't have the same need to see, and I didn't feel like having to worry about planning around someone else.
I solo travel and I don't even remember why I started doing that. People are always amazed that I'm doing these trips by myself. I don't mind going to a restaurant by myself or with good companies. And I think it's similar with traveling too. Thanks for this video! I really think more people should get out there and see the world!
Your statements on the friends having kids and renovating and being busy is TOO REAL!! I have traveled solo before but didn't enjoy it. HOWEVER, that was years ago and I feel like a different person now and I AM READY!
Not sure if you have already talked about this, but could you do a video on how you plan your trips? How you do your research and pick where to stay and how to get from place to place while on a trip. I've always wanted to do this but I'm nervous about leaving the country and being able to navigate my way around places! I would love any advice you have!!!
Rome2rio is a pretty cool website too. It helped me navigate a bus ride from Budapest to Croatia. You can find transportation, hotels, everything! I used Airbnb for lodging
You’re absolutely right. I have a co-worker advising me to travel by myself while still young. She really regretted not traveling during her early years. She’s now retired and having health problems and prohibit her from traveling. I followed her advised and now I’ve been to many places domestic and int’l. No regret and truly enjoyed it. More power to you!!!
I ask myself, "Do local women in this location work outside of the home? Do they have careers? Do they commute on public transport alone? Run errands?" If the answer is yes, I know that I will not stick out too much walking around a city by myself. It tells me that it is normal for a woman to be out and about doing things alone. I also always stay in a safe area of town, and always have a plan for where I'm going to be after dark (usually at my hotel or close by). I also make sure my family has an itinerary with where I'm staying and what I'm doing each day of my trip!
YES YES YES!!! I'm at the beginning of my journey as a solo traveler and still, everything's new to me and I'm not used to traveling completely alone, but after your video, I get so much inspiration and motivation to do it more! I really appreciate you for that! Thank you so much Alison
watching this makes me so proud of myself , went on my first solo trip at 17, I was randomly looking through youtube travel vlogs and found myself booking a flight to Korea . best thing I've ever done .
I just booked started booking my first (small) solo trip for next month. I was in the midst of a moment of worry where I was considering cancelling what I've got booked. Then I clicked on this video. I needed this. Thank you so much ♥️
I went to Switzerland alone a few months ago and it was the best trip I’ve ever taken. I felt so fulfilled and satisfied with what I got dome because it was on my own time. This video just reinforced what I love about solo travel & why I want to do it more!!
SAME - I'm so efficient when I'm traveling by myself! I can cover so much ground in such little time, so the idea of only 2 days in a city still holds a lot of opportunity!
Been doing the solo thing for years. But in the U.S. only. I enjoy doing what I want, when I want. Besides, I don't have a significant other and I refuse to miss out on travel just because I have no one to go with.
“If I do not go to these places by myself, I will not go at all” - that hit so hard. Gave me reassurance that my upcoming solo trip is the best choice I made.
I'm 67 and always travel alone. My wife's not interested , but doesn't stop me from wandering. This year I spent 10 weeks travelling by myself. I have a great time and always agree with myself about starting, stopping, eating etc. It's my happy place.
No joke! I just thought about solo traveling a sec ago and then your video was the first one to show up when I opened the app... This must be a sign 😄😊
I have this book which I got 4 years ago on an exchange to Alaska. I wanted to fill it with "Travel". And whilst I'm only 20 years old and have already been to 30 countries there's still so much I want to see. So now I got this book out and did the same: listed places I want to go. Thank you. It took 4 years but that's better than 10, 20 or 30 years.
I am so happy that I bumped into this even though I have already started solo traveling since 2016. As an introvert though, I feel that it can also be so hard to keep doing this by yourself as you wish you had someone to travel with.
Im 18, in our culture young people travel a lot starting in their late teens. I already travelled quite a bit alone in multiple countries and i've been enjoying it quite a bit. It sort of forced me to go out, socialize and make sure i find people to keep me company as i travel. But as much as i love it, there's always that saying that echoes in the back of my head "The most beautifull view in the world loses it's beauty when you're alone."
I started solo traveling and went to Europe for a month this past summer, best decision I ever made in my life. On top of it, I met a long lost cousin who hasn’t seen the family in 20 years and saved on hotel costs because she hosted me. Everyone in my family thinks when I tell them that I traveled for a month that I’m super rich but in reality I stayed at hostels and cooked my own meals. The first thing that I learned about solo traveling was that hotels don’t mean anything because you’re going to spend most of your day outside, not inside, so it’s pretty dumb to pay $100/night for a hotel just to leave your bags inside
So I live in London and I have ventured out to places within UK on my own and loooved it, but I’m low-key terrified to travel on my own overseas.. thank you for this video though and safe travels 💛
I really needed this video. I love traveling and I’m confronted with the same issues. I used to travel solo when I was single, but since being in a relationship I’ve found it harder to go on solo adventures, feeling a bit guilty ! But you inspired me to never forget what my passion is : traveling !! ❤️
This is awesome. I'm so glad you starting solo travelling. It's so amazing. I've started a decade & stop waiting on others & it's been the best decision of my life. I've learn so much about myself & met so many awesome people along the way 💛
THIS video opened that same door in my brain! I began solo traveling and it’s fabulous! I call it my mid-life adventures! Thank you so much for your advice and your page is a regular watch for me!
I went on my first solo travel this year 2019. I had the time of my traveling to Bangkok and Philippines. Looking foward to more trips and your videos inspire me.
I'm so glad I watched your video because you convinced me! You are SO right; if I don't just take the leap and go, I will never get to see the places I want. I'm 57 and going on my first international trip by myself! 🙂
I’m going on my first solo trip to Iceland this March because your Iceland vlog inspired me to be brave enough to try solo traveling. I think life gives you opportunities to push yourself outside your comfort zone and whenever you embrace these challenges, you ultimately grow from it. So while I could be spending my money on other things like a better wardrobe or apartment, I know that this trip is an investment in myself... and what’s better than that?
Anna Lewis Hey Anna, make sure you pack all sorts of clothes, the weather here in March is extremely unpredictable: you might start your day with the sun but end up in a snowstorm by midday. Make sure you always check safetravel.is and vedur.is for updates on the weather and road conditions. All the best!x
That's how I feel about it too! I won't care about my current wardrobe 20 years from now but I'll always remember my trip to Iceland :) have a great time! Pack warm clothes!!
Hiiii ☀️👋🏽 OMG all about this video is what I am experiencing right now ! I wanna travel so bad but all my friends are too busy with their own stuff and I do not want to waste my time waiting for them to be available ! So I’ve been thinking about traveling alone but at the same time I was afraid to feel stupid exploring places all by myself and after watching your video I’ve realized that we were the ones stopping ourselves doing the things we wanna do by inventing stupid excuses ! So thank you for helping me realize that travelling alone was possible and amazing ! I thing I’m gonna do the same lists as you with places where I can go alone and others that I wanna experience with someone ! Thanks again xxx 💙
I love your solo travelling content so much, Allison. For me, it's always been a goal to live abroad but I've never had anyone to make the move with. Earlier today I took the plunge and applied for a working holiday visa in Canada. Moving across the Atlantic is a scary prospect if I do get a visa but it's exciting too!
I am from Canada!! What part of the country are you wanting to work in? What country are you from? Lol sorry for the nosey questions but I feel like noone ever wants to travel to Canada 😂
@@erinmarie27 Hi! I'm Irish. I can tell you that it's definitely not true about one wanting to go to Canada - the Canadian government issues 10,500 working holiday visas to Irish people every year and they are always snapped up immediately. I've known quite a few people who have gone, everyone has adored the country and were very sad to have to leave! Ottawa and Calgary are the two cities which appeal most to me but I'm not sure I could handle the weather, so I think I might try Vancouver - being Irish I am well used to the rain :)
I’m 23, I recently went to Spain for a week alone and many people thought I was crazy or brave for doing such a thing ! this video has made me realize that I should keep traveling solo ! Thankss !!
Thanks for this reminder ! I really want to discover the worlds but like you said, I'm waiting for other people... I'm a little bit afraid to go alone, but I'm sure that one day, I'll do it by myself and I'll be very proud of myself ! :)
Girl, thank you for this video. ❤ I feel the exact same way as you. Also in a relationship, also travel together, but it is definitely not enough for me. It kind of sucks realizing you will never ever see all the places you dream of in a lifetime if you're always waiting on someone to take you/accompany you, but it is sooo refreshing. The thought was weighing me down so much all the time and I've got 2 trips lined up now, the second of which is completely solo (to Krakow). And I am both terrified and absolutely thrilled! I hope we get to see as many places as we can!! 🥰
I travel pretty often but usually with my brothers or friends. But this time I'm heading to NYC this coming Saturday for my 5 month internship coming from Switzerland. Don't know why I'm kinda nervous to go alone but I'm excited!
Omg I LOVE solo traveling!! It’s nice to not have to worry about anyone and truly just doing what you want to do at your own pace. Ofc being with someone is also a great travel experience, but like you said, everyone else around me has a much more rigid schedule/budget than I do and it just seems like they’re not as keen on traveling everywhere as I am so I just go on my own! I feel like you truly start to experience the places you go to when you’re alone
Yes, yes, a million times yes! I took my first solo trip to Portland - a city I always wanted to visit - when I was essentially at a crossroads in my life and felt like I needed to "get out" and gain a fresh perspective. I've been hooked ever since. I've solo traveled to multiple cities now and it is my favorite thing. I haven't traveled internationally yet - I would love to know which countries/cities you'd recommend!
Portland, Oregon or Portland, Maine? I've been to Oregon (so nice!) but have never been to Maine and always wanted to go! For international trips, I don't think there's a place I've disliked. Last year I did solo travel to Iceland, Japan and Portugal, and would recommend all three. I've traveled with people to Italy, France, the UK - those are all great places to visit as well. If you've never been to London, I keep seeing unusually low airfare on Norweigan Air - $300 round trip direct from Seattle - not sure where you're flying out of but could be a cool trip if you've never been!
Allison Anderson Portland, Oregon! I absolutely adore that city - so vibrant and diverse and fun! I’ve never been to Maine either but would love to go. London would be incredible - and that airfare is amazing!! I live in Anchorage Alaska, so Seattle is pretty easy for me to get to. Thank you so much!!! I’ll definitely look into that!
Thank you Allison! This gave me the push to just even think about or consider traveling alone. I am that person that has stopped myself sooo many times because I felt too guilty enjoying things on my own, especially when it came to traveling, so thank you so much!
I'm in the same situation . your right it's impossible to get anyone coordinated at same time and place you want to go. I'm starting this year to go alone.
You absolutly spoke directly out of my heart. And I sometime thought about traveling solo. But I never spoke these thoughts out loud because I always feel like this would be like a breakup or the first step of it.
So inspiring ! I was slightly scared to start planning my solo trips but you gave me so much more confidence, definitely gonna binge watch your channel as I plan my vacations now. Shoutout to all the independent women out there :)
Did my first solo traveling, nowhere too far it's actually still in my country which is Bali. It's so amazing, I'm 26 and this made me asked myself why I didn't do it earlier 😂
Girl! My exact thoughts! I'm currently in the process of selling my home to be able to travel full-time for the next few years. A big motivation being exactly what you said - I want to get out and see the world before life gets in the way. Happy travels! :)
Great video Allison!! I’m married with kids and I also solo travel and love it. I always feel so accomplished and brave when I do it. It also reinforces to me that I can do things on my own. Have you ever thought about going to Egypt alone. I’m obsessed with seeing the pyramids for my next trip. Have a great evening!! :) Brook
I feel the same way! Solo travel gives me so much confidence and reminds me that it's okay to seek out my own adventures. I would love to go to Egypt, I've heard mixed things about it for women traveling alone though - are you doing a solo trip? Would love to know your advice/take on it if you are!
This video has stuck with me. Thank you for so eloquently putting these thoughts together and sharing them - it's really helped me find the courage and just go do it :)
Flower petal Sydney Young exactly... I did some solo travelling when I was single but when I am in a relationship I want to share those experiences with my partner and make memories together... I don’t mind waiting until our shedules match to go somewhere... I had a bf once that wanted to solo travel and I didn’t get it... why would go alone when you have a partner so you can make those amazing memories together to look back on... but hey to each their own.. it did ruin our relationship but if you find someone like minded ... why not :-)
My hubby is a fun sucker, when it comes to places he doesn’t want to go. Like London. So solo travel is better in those situations. But most traveling is more fun with someone you can share the experiences with, for sure!
In some ways, I agree with this statement. But that's why when you go solo travelling, you can meet people along the way to share these experiences with. I've been on group tours or just by staying at a hostel I met some really good friends that I still keep in touch with till this day & it has been years since I met them. 💛
Hi Allison. Just wanted to say thank you for sharing your story. I graduated college in May 2019, started working a full time consulting job after 2 weeks of graduation. I realized most of my time went to work and knowing that my time is non-refundable. I went to my first business trip alone and after that, I became confident to travel alone. Baby steps, haha. I'm in the mindset right now as a 22 years old that this is the time to travel. Therefore, thank you for creating these videos to push me out of my comfort zone and building my self confident to travel alone. Much love, Tracy
I’m going on my first solo trip next week and I’m still a little depressed that I have to go alone (no friends or romantic partner) but I hope it will be okay and I’ll have fun :)
When I travel alone, I often meet the nicest people. Just book a half day excursion or something like that in a town and you meet people on the bus. I have met people on all sorts of short site seeing and travelled with them for a few days or weeks. I
Hey, I know it’s been a year but I’m just curious of how did it go? With your solo travel. I’ve always wanted to do it but I have my mom to take care of and she is elderly and very afraid to travel the places I want to go and I don’t have a partner and the people that I do know they really are not interested a real bummer.
I'm about to turn 30 later this year and it's made me think more about just going out and doing all the things I've spent my 20s thinking I'd like to do, especially traveling solo. Thanks so much for making this video! It does seem to be immensely rewarding. I know I have a lot of hurdles to get through because traveling when already dealing with some issues like depression/anxiety is trickier, but it really does seem like something I should do. Now to just figure out where my first destination should be...
darkdust I can relate! I'm turning 30 at the end of the year and its making me think about all these things that I feel like I should be doing. I know if I had more people in my life I would be doing a lot more of this stuff, but I know I shouldn't be relying on other people to just go.
I absolutely LOVED this video. I adore solo travelling. I've booked 3 trips so far, now that everything is slowly opening up. I already went to Nice earlier this year and loved it!
"The only thing holding you back is yourself", great statement and how true. I planned a trip and my friends have backed out due to not getting the time off work. So glad I found this video, going to go it alone.... Thanks for the inspiration
Great video ! I love solo travelling ! So far, I've been to Rome and Amsterdam alone. This Friday I'll be travelling to London alone. The world is waiting for us to discover it. Have just subscribed to you ^^
I'm easing into it by going on a group tour in Europe this summer, I'm graduating from college and it's always been a dream to just see the world but friends never seem to be on the same page. I'm a little nervous because this is pushing myself way out of my comfort zone - I can be a little shy and I've never been out of the country, but I think it will be a good push. I'm so excited, and it's so reassuring to hear that almost everyone who solo travels loves it
The same happened to me. I was waiting the last 15years for a girl to go with me on trips. Girls came and went away... And I was dreaming of these places. In 2019 I said to myself, if I don't go alone, it seems I will not go at all. The last girl cheated on me. The one before also. I was done with women and relationships. I booked trips to Egypt, Red sea (Nov 2019, was diving with a turtle, made a lot of underwater photos, I go free diving, apnea). In Jan 2020 I have a trip to Thailand, wanna make a picture with a shark or a manta ray. In April 2020 I booked Maldives (wanna do a picture with a whale shark). In may 2020 again Red Sea, Egypt (wanna do pictures driving a quad in Sahara). July 2020 Croatia, Adriatic sea. October 2020 bought a trip to Seychelles. The only (small) regret I have is that I spent so much time on chasing girls and relationships instead of investing more time and resources in traveling experiences.
I just came across this video & I’m so glad I did. I’m about to take my first solo trip to Dallas, TX. I’m very excited, I was a little nervous because I too felt like I don’t have anyone to go with but my mom said just do it . & to have her support has been the best! I just turned 20, and graduated college my boyfriend is very supportive too! I’m going to start a bigger list RIGHT NOW💖! Thank you for this you have a new subscriber 💖❤️!
You've inspired me! I got a remote job in hopes of traveling and waiting on people to go with me has left me not going on any trips. I saw your Alaska video and I'm going to start saving for a cruise there and extend my trip a month or two and just work remotely while I'm in Alaska. Thank you for the inspiration!
You spoke my mind! Been traveling solo for 9 months now, and I'm loving it! And I definitely don't want to wait until I'm in my 80s and look at the travel lists, regret that I have not done when I was young.
I LOVE travelling alone. When people ask me, I say « if I had to wait to travel with other people, I would never travel » I also like being alone, I enjoy my time alone and I appreciate my freedom when I do travel alone so I think that’s why I’m enjoying it! Now I can’t see myself travelling with other people, I’m too used to my freedom 😂
Late to this post but its like this video was speaking directly to me. My friend group is all married off and has kids and I don't have kids and won't ever be having any, but this has limited my travel options. I like traveling in shoulder season when its not as crowded and its cheaper. I'm tired of "oh well we have to wait until summer when the kids are out of school" So I was thinking of taking my first solo trip next April to Amsterdam and Berlin. I'm nervous because I'm not an extrovert, but this video convinced me. What spoke to me was that part about if I don't go alone I may never go. I'm 43, have the money and time to do it, and need to just not be held back by any fear. Great video.
Not spending all of your money lol. Jk you can honestly find cheap flights if you look hard enough and some countries are very cheap when it comes to spending.
I really appreciate your effort ! travelling solo is not easy , it takes a lot of courage and dedication ! i find it difficult to travel solo even in my own country and you are managing to do it worldwide :) salute you Allison
Im button it depends on how old you are. rn i’m 20 and my parents are down for my new trip in may to go to paris/monaco (f1 grand prix)/Cannes(film festival)/níce/barcelona. It’s on account of me having a different kind of experience. for me, i need to learn how to enjoy something and appreciate it for myself and not relying on somebody else. Your best bet is telling him that you’d like to experience a place and appreciate it for yourself. going to be honest it’s different because your a girl though so maybe picking somewhere safe and show reasons why it’s safe would help
i’ve also done a lot of traveling with them as a family, some with only friends closer to home (road trips to vegas or around california), and they know i’m responsible and smart. Before, their worry was i wasn’t experienced enough to get a feel for careful and dangerous when in an unfamiliar place. now their worry is just crazy accidents which isn’t too hard to get around once you assure them you’re smart enough to get yourself through difficulty
I’ve been doing it for 3 years now, and it’s really soo much fun! You get to be a selfish as you want, decide what you want to do, where you want to go, what time you want to wake up, and what you want to eat. You don’t have to think about anybody else but yourself. Yea, it’s kinda scary at first because your suddenly all alone and in a foreign country with your own thoughts. But after a while, scary turns into exciting, and before you know it you’ll be planning your next solo trip once you get back from the last one! Just like bungee jumping, it’s more scary looking down then actually jumping off 😊
I was never really worried about having someone to be along my side going to the places I wanna go more so.. the other ultimate question is how do you afford to go to all these places and maintain your job and your bills lol..
Don't limit yourself by what you think you will be able to do when you're "old". I'm going on my first solo trip next week and I'm 73. . 😉
Ruth Hunter that's so wonderful to hear. I couldn't afford to travel when I was younger and I worried if I'd still be able to do so now that I'm older. Making up for that time now and I've been traveling for the last 3 years now.
so cool, where did you go?
Hope you enjoyed! Thats amazing!☺
Let us know how your travel was.
One leg in the grave and so brave, good for you Madam!
I hope you have fun!
Sorry for your loss :( I hope you enjoy your trip to Scotland! It's something I've always wanted to do as well!
I live in Glasgow, Scotland! I hope you have a wonderful time when the time comes!
So sorry to hear about your husband. I hope you have an amazing trip! Scotland is beautiful and the people are so nice!
So true
Love this comment❤
It also teaches you the people in this world are much nicer then what we are lead to believe. I met so many good folks out on my travels. It was the best part of my trip.
In January It will be my first time travelling solo
How long have you been saving for it ? Just being curious
I have started traveling alone when I was 23 and it was the BESTTTT DECISION OF MY LIFE! I have been to so many places and created so many memories. I am only 25 and still have a lot to see but I'm so ready
That’s amazing!
Taytay Queen 🙂🙂🙂
I totally agree. I love travelling with people, but I also really love solo travelling. You learn so much about yourself & meet a lot of amazing people along the way. 💛
Agreed
Does one get lonely on solo travel? I've always wondered..
Can you do a video on how you plan a trip? Hotel? Airlines? Itinerary? That kind of stuff. Thanks. I loved this video and miss your videos in general.
Thank you! I'll add it to the list!
So been about 2 months of traveling now, just book a flight the rest can be figured out when you land. Biggest thing is get your flight!
Use sky scanner and hostel word for cheaper accommodation
Solo traveling FORCES me to meet new people & create friendships that would have never otherwise existed. With that said, does anyone want to go on a trip to Asia in the coming months? HAha not joking
Solo travel is great! and yes, speaking from experience, you meet waaayyy more people when travelling solo :)
how do you meet people? i want to go next month but i dont get how i just meet people
Snezana Hostels. Usually everyone is young and willing to do things
Let’s go to Asia!
I started traveling solo 5 years ago when I was 56. This last five years I’ve been to 22 countries and many cities. I met so many interesting people and some of them became my best friends. I so encourage all women be courageous and live your dream :)
Indie Do you speak multiple languages?
@@sherryjackson8474 It's embarrassing that I only speak fluently two languages and a bit of French and a bit of Italian. But, I'm still learning everyday :)
Solo travelling is actually so underrated. I’m 22 and just so addictive with travelling. I went Vienna last month and going Prague this week. You will definitely meet a lot of travellers, in hostels, taking pics at tourist sites. It takes experience but eventually it’s easy to just start a conversation with them and ask them where they’re from etc. Solo travelling , you feel ALOT more free and you can do whatever you want
I’m 61, I’ve been solo traveler for six years when I retired. Life has never been so beautiful and abundant.
This is so cool
Can you do a video talking more about safety as a young woman traveling alone!
Hannah Ritter I second this. I’m kind of scared to travel alone.
Wow you don't sound "senior" at all
Hi im a student and a mom i need food and supplies for my kids
Can you please send me 150$
I have 3$.
When I tell you this comment made me laugh so hard
Right?? I have all the time in the world at summer holiday but no $$
Same so I went downtown in the area I grew up then. I didn’t realize how historical and old my area was.
Brother , you can hitchhike and coach surf.
David.H YES TRUE
I’m going on my first solo trip in March! London + Paris ❤️✈️
Wooohooo!! Both cities are magical!
I did that! It was amazing - have a great time! ❤️
My first is in March too! Dublin and Edinburgh 🙏💕
Yesss me too
I' m going solo in Paris today!
I spent 3 weeks in Santorini Greece by myself and it was the best vacation of my life. I hate following anyone else’s schedule and it was amazing!
Thanks for watching! Have you ever taken a solo trip? What made you decide to take the leap?
Allison Anderson I solo traveled to Portland and it was the BEST 🙌🏻
Solo traveled to Florence, Italy a couple of months ago :)
I flew to Glasgow, and it was amazing!
Last year (2018) I made the leap ....and went to Greece my very first trip abroad, SOLO! Best experience ever! I'm currently planning my next solo trip to South America! Love your videos! I wish we could be friends in real life! Lol
I’m going to LA in May
So much history and so much to see
🇵🇹
That's awesome. There is so many places to travel to that is amazing 😉
Someone else suggested this as well - adding it to the list!
you can use google maps - I used it last time I was in Italy and Sicily, just got back in February 2019, it helped a lot!
Rome2rio is a pretty cool website too. It helped me navigate a bus ride from Budapest to Croatia. You can find transportation, hotels, everything! I used Airbnb for lodging
YES!!! I encourage everyone I know to solo travel. It is my absolute favourite way to do it!
Safety is the number one thing that is holding me back from solo traveling. What are some things you do to remain "safe" when you travel alone?
Rinnytintin25 Yes! This is my biggest concern!
@@allisonanderson thank you!
@Never lose sleep over the small stuff well the women get drunk and let them.
Answer, dont get drunk with random guys and go home with them.
Check the travel warnings online. And heed those warnings. They are in place for a reason.
That's awesome.👍💛 How was Korea? I've been meaning to go.
I just booked started booking my first (small) solo trip for next month. I was in the midst of a moment of worry where I was considering cancelling what I've got booked. Then I clicked on this video. I needed this. Thank you so much ♥️
Victoria Day me too !!! how was your trip??
I went to Switzerland alone a few months ago and it was the best trip I’ve ever taken. I felt so fulfilled and satisfied with what I got dome because it was on my own time. This video just reinforced what I love about solo travel & why I want to do it more!!
SAME - I'm so efficient when I'm traveling by myself! I can cover so much ground in such little time, so the idea of only 2 days in a city still holds a lot of opportunity!
Going to Switzerland in Jun, hope it goes well like yourself 😊
Been doing the solo thing for years. But in the U.S. only. I enjoy doing what I want, when I want. Besides, I don't have a significant other and I refuse to miss out on travel just because I have no one to go with.
pinkfreud62 yessss
“If I do not go to these places by myself, I will not go at all” - that hit so hard. Gave me reassurance that my upcoming solo trip is the best choice I made.
I'm 67 and always travel alone. My wife's not interested , but doesn't stop me from wandering. This year I spent 10 weeks travelling by myself. I have a great time and always agree with myself about starting, stopping, eating etc. It's my happy place.
No joke! I just thought about solo traveling a sec ago and then your video was the first one to show up when I opened the app... This must be a sign 😄😊
The universe knew!!
@@allisonanderson how old r u;
A sign go 4it
That's awesome.💛 How was your trip?
I've learn so much about myself & met so many awesome people along the way 💛
When I started solo traveling I never looked back and I just love it
THIS video opened that same door in my brain!
Pack warm clothes!!
momo_rvk Thank you!
Hiiii ☀️👋🏽
OMG all about this video is what I am experiencing right now !
That is amazing, good for you!! You have so many exciting things waiting for you!
I have been wanting to roadtrip to Portland for a reeeealy long time now!! How is it? Is it safe for solo travelers?
I'm hitting the road in June and frantically watching all the "solo traveling" videos out there :D
Solo traveling is the most liberating and adventurous feeling 👍👍
I’m a guy and I found this video very helpful and inspirational. 2020 resolution for sure
Egypt was my first trip ever and alone! I decided to be safe and booked a flight and then a tour with G Adventures. It was great!! Felt safe.
This video has stuck with me. Thank you for so eloquently putting these thoughts together and sharing them - it's really helped me find the courage and just go do it :)
Thing is for me, I feel like i would enjoy the experience more by experiencing it with someone.
Much love,
Tracy
I’m going on my first solo trip next week and I’m still a little depressed that I have to go alone (no friends or romantic partner) but I hope it will be okay and I’ll have fun :)
I bet you loved it. It’s great!
Meshia M and how was it?
Hey how was your trip ?
When I travel alone, I often meet the nicest people. Just book a half day excursion or something like that in a town and you meet people on the bus. I have met people on all sorts of short site seeing and travelled with them for a few days or weeks. I
Hey, I know it’s been a year but I’m just curious of how did it go? With your solo travel. I’ve always wanted to do it but I have my mom to take care of and she is elderly and very afraid to travel the places I want to go and I don’t have a partner and the people that I do know they really are not interested a real bummer.
Im 18 years 21 days old and will be travelling solo for the first time in my life next week. Wish me luck!
You can do it :) Take the leap and make your dreams come true... It will make you feel empowered and your future self will thank you for it :)
darkdust I can relate!
Please do more videos on this, it’s such a cool topic and something I would love to do.
"The only thing holding you back is yourself", great statement and how true. I planned a trip and my friends have backed out due to not getting the time off work. So glad I found this video, going to go it alone.... Thanks for the inspiration
PREACH SISTER PREACH 🙌🏼💖💖
Only the strong solo travel. I've done it so much! Congrats to you for doing what most won't do!!
I'm so sorry you can't go now:(
@@AndrewOsbourne and now the world is in fuc.king lockdown and I can't travel 🙄 Maldives & Egypt locked down.
Thank you for this you have a new subscriber 💖❤️!
i just booked flights to go alone to Italy! Thank you
You've inspired me! I got a remote job in hopes of traveling and waiting on people to go with me has left me not going on any trips. I saw your Alaska video and I'm going to start saving for a cruise there and extend my trip a month or two and just work remotely while I'm in Alaska. Thank you for the inspiration!
*First solo trip this May in Andalusia Spain! Could not be more excited :D*
we live in Andalucia area and you going to love it! Do not forget to see Seville and Cordoba 😊
@@laarniesmith3722 definitely heading to Seville! I don't think I'll be able to for Cordoba on this trip 😓
me too bro haha im hyped! see you there
You spoke my mind! Been traveling solo for 9 months now, and I'm loving it! And I definitely don't want to wait until I'm in my 80s and look at the travel lists, regret that I have not done when I was young.
That's so awesome 👍💛. Where have you gone travelling to?
Can you talk thru how you save for those trips?
Not spending all of your money lol. Jk you can honestly find cheap flights if you look hard enough and some countries are very cheap when it comes to spending.
Gatta find the cheap stuff
Follow the deal then follow the dream
I use simple multiplication. Save 300 a month for a year 3600/400 a month 4800. May have to incorporate a second means of income to increase savings.
I talk through some of the safety tips for accommodations in my video hope it helps 😉💛 th-cam.com/video/DArH5Q8rN2E/w-d-xo.html
I needed this I’m now working on my list of places. I’m already at 70 so that should keep me busy. See you out in the world fellow solo travelers
i lost my husband in May 2019. i want to start solo travel, too. Really like your suggestions.
Tiffany Hepper Try a cruise to start. Positive energy and light to you. My condolences to you.
I really appreciate your effort ! travelling solo is not easy , it takes a lot of courage and dedication ! i find it difficult to travel solo even in my own country and you are managing to do it worldwide :) salute you Allison
How do I convince my father to let his only daughter to go solo travel. Thats my big problem now.
If your a grown adult there's no reason you have to convince him. Do what you want with your life he'll just have to accept it
sis same
Im button go first for domestic solo trip , gain some confidence of your father and then go international baby .
I'm going to Korea alone soon. I'm so excited!
Yay!💛 How was Korea?
