- Review of the studio legend - the Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO 250 ohm Open-back Studio Headphones. How do they sound? Should you buy them? We'll answer these questions and more in the video.
#Headphones #beyerdynamic
The beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO headphones are open-back. That means there's less pressure and more position for the stereo image. You'll be able to better judge things like panning and spatial effects with these headphones, vs closed-back headphones.
The DT 990 PROs are also extremely comfortable. They are probably the most comfortable headphones I have ever used. The frame is super light, and the ear cups are covered in a soft velour - so you almost forget you even have them on.
The DT 990 PRO headphones are most suited for mixing and mastering. You can track with them, but ONLY if you are not using microphones. Since they are open-back, sound will pour out of these things and into any nearby microphone. So, don't get these for singing, podcasting, or anything else where a live microphone is involved.
The sound is stunning. Extremely natural, almost like you are listening through speakers in a room. You have a much better sense of space with the DT 990's vs. closed-back phones.
You could mix and master on these phones without the need for a virtual mix room plugin. However, since the DT 990's are so popular, most Virtual Mix Room plugins will have a DT 990 profile - so that can be an extra layer of realism for you to check your mix on.

Great video thanks! Do you think the DT 880 PRO are better/equivalent? I want to use them for guitar playing and mixing, but I am doubting between the DT 990 PRO (250 ohm)/ DT990 PRO X (48 ohm) / DT 880 PRO (250 ohm)
But they are 250 Ohms, we might need an amp to drive it right ? and also does the audient interface drive it well ?
i have Audio-Technica ATH-AD900X Audiophile Open-Air and im looking for a replacement what would you recommend i do love the AD900X but i think they are a bit dated
Hello. Much appreciated this presentation. What is the difference between the normal DT 990 pro with the light grey ear pads and this DT 990 Pro Limited Edition with black ear pads ?
just the color. maybe the cord was different too... I don't recall off hand. But it's a purely cosmetic thing. The will both sound exactly the same.
thanks@@BenoniStudio
I have these but I notice they leave out a few frequencies. I prefer my AGK semi open back headphones
and what Beyerdynamic that we can use for record a song or make music ?
Hello, Thank you for the video, i have a question, i got the 80ohm, but I don't know if they are good enough for mixing and mastering. So what is your opinion about this?
Enjoy your 80ohms
My 250ohms sucks 😞
which headphones do you prefer when it comes to recording with a live mic?
you would probably want a closed back headphones. You don't want the sound of the open back headphones feeding back into the mic, also you can hear everything going on in the room. It can be a bit distracting. The Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO are more for mixing and mastering
Hopefully, you'll be able to answer this, but I'm using the 990 Pro, they're plugged into my cheap amp I got off Amazon and that amp is plugged into my Goxlr mini. and for some reason, I'm hearing a humming / buzzing noise. Do you get that problem when you plug yours into your amp?
probably a ground loop. try plugging in your amp and GOxlr into the same outlet. or it could just be a low quality headphone amp.
@@BenoniStudio ty for the reply I will try that out
I have legendarny Old DT 990!!! 25 years. 😜
They still work?
@@emgodas Yes! Perfect.
:) I just bought new shells and made a new cable.
Same here, but they are getting long in the tooth. They do still work though.. awesome headphones! Just ordered a new pair!
What’s the difference between the:
Normal impedance headphones
80 ohms
250 ohms
And how would they work on a normal pc without a audio interface and how would they work with it
Basically loudness. The 80 ohms will need less power or pre amp to hear louder rather then the 250 ohms. But don't get scared, in a few words higher ohms requires better equipment and lower ohms requires standard equipment.
For example if you you use the 250 ohms with your phone it will sound quieter. So buy whenever your needs.
How long should they last in terms of regular usage?
Several years as long as you don't break the cable.
what he said ^ I've have mine since 2019 thru lots of wear and tear even some exposed white n red cables just from time but still work fine tbh
Is mine fake???
I bought one in a Music store here in Nigeria and the cable is shorter than this one in the video. And it's not audible like other studio headphones i have used. I plugged in on audio interface, yet I couldn't get the sound I was expecting....
I need response please 🥺
what ohm version do you have?
@@jl8852 250ohms and I used it with an Scarlett 4i4 latest Generation
@@jl8852 250 ohms. I'm using it with a Scarlett 4i4
@@jl8852 I have 250 ohms and am using it with Scarlett 4i4 new generation. But the volume on the headphone is still not as loud as I expected 😔😔😔 even on highest volume
@@slimprinz 250 ohm will need a headphone amplifier to drive them. Have a look at headphone amps, if you're on a budget there are some cheap ones for around 30£ from behringer for example.
Otherwise I'd recommend something like the e10k by fiio.
The higher the impedance ( ohm) the more power the headphones need.
why dont you show your face in the video?
Why you want his face? You have some psychological problems?

white guy with dreads making beats great......
🤣 Dont tell me you're going to publicly embarrass yourself by not knowing the earliest evidence of dreads are from Greece not Africa.
And don't tell me you're going to further embarrass yourself by not knowing that anthropologists have found dreadlocks developed independently in almost every culture - meaning these cultures never crossed paths, but they all had dreads. Everyone from ancient Europeans, early Christians, Vikings, Germanic tribes, ancient Asian cultures, native Americans, and aboriginal tribes all wore dreads for thousands of years before Rastafarians adopted the dreadlock in 1930. The world didnt being in 1930 btw.
But if you want to play the game of "if a certain culture creates X, then other cultures can't use or wear X" then only Europeans would be able to use Microphones, or dental floss, or computers, or the internet, or even electricity. That seems to be how you think. So thanks for showing the entire world that you are racist 🤣 Checkmate. ♟️
ya sound dumb
@@BenoniStudioi don’t have a problem with you having dreads but don’t try to take away from our culture dreads most def come from black people try again
