I'm not sure if this is just me but damn... I swear I can get lost in every song. Every tale just takes me away to distant thoughts; Vessels is a great album for sure.
@@allyance8846 tl;dr: This creature is no longer useful to the pack, and they're going to leave it to die. To fully explain I'll go back a bit: "A rushing mass of fur and claws The host would move as one Provided each could keep apace Those creatures feared none" The song is about a group of animals (I always imagined a pack of wolves, and this video seems to confirm that). They're pack animals, strong together, but this verse already hints at membership of the pack being conditional. Each has to keep pace with the others, or be left behind. "Each component of the whole A spoke, for now, that linked Dispensable-when it should break The rest would let it sink" Each member serves the pack, but they're one of many. The pack has no time for those that aren't useful, and any individual that isn't will be left behind. ('Break' and 'sink' are also some foreshadowing for later) Next verse is self explanatory, a river's blocking them, and they need to cross it. But then... "They navigated snout to tail The smallest one was knocked As treacherous waters surged It shattered on the rocks" One of the wolves falls into the river, and the rushing water causes it to be 'shattered' on the rocks. This is what we were warned about earlier, and the use of 'shattered' suggests almost total destruction, already hinting that this is not recoverable. "One component of the whole A spoke, that now, had snapped Dispensable-it served no use The others would adapt" Echoing the earlier verse, we now get confirmation. This spoke is now broken, and serves no use to the pack. The others will adapt to its loss, rather than slow down to help it because, as mentioned earlier, each member of the pack needs to keep apace. Note though that the use of adapt suggests this won't necessarily be easy for the pack. This member served a purpose before, and will be a genuine loss, but they simply don't have the means to help them, and can't risk the survival of the pack to try. As an addendum, there's no lyrical evidence for this, but I find the following instrumental section to feel sort of determined and almost triumpant? As if this broken wolf is determined not to die here, and I imagine it giving everything it has to make its way back to the pack, despite being injured. Meanwhile the quieter, spoken repeat of the last verse echoes as if it's the wolf's own thoughts. Deep down it knows the pack can't help it, but it has to make it back. It doesn't want to die alone... Then we get to 4:51, and the triumphant feeling fades and the energy drops. Perhaps it did make its way back to the pack, or perhaps it just sees them in the distance, but at this point its strength has run out. Its injuries are too much, and it collapses to the ground. Again the last verse is fairly self-explantory... "Silently, it understood And, broken beyond mend It watched the other hunters leave Then waited for the end" The screams in the outro almost sound like an animal howling in pain to me, which makes this section hit particularly hard...
@@allyance8846 Some sort of a pack-like creatures (wolves) destroy an ant hive and while continuing further, one of them falls into the river and dies. One animal of the whole pack was dispensable and others would adapt. Album has a whole complete story connected to each other, you can understand better if you read the lyrics starting from An Ember’s Arc to The Smoke of Many Fires.
Many songs are epic in nature, and Whelm is a heroic ballad about small animals that fight for their lives. So small and so brave they took the death of one of their own, with no tears and just moving further to save their pack.
I think it's more like the song describes the human society using metaphors and paradigms from the animal kingdom. I may be wrong though, it's just an assumption.
@@ΒασίληςΤσούλης you are wrong, its not about human society at all and not a damn metaphor for any shit like that, its about an elementary particle, the photon, and it's epic journey through various forms, the "vessels" which he animates.
@@ΒασίληςΤσούλης Yeah man, I was thinking the same thing. Like the song The Dream and the Waking, it's about 2 animals getting stuck in spider web and eventuality getting their life drained out. But really thought it could be like 2 people stuck in a shitty loveless relationship until there's nothing left. But maybe just overthinking it.
@@homevalueglass3809 I don't think you're overthinking it. These songs describe struggles, whether it be another life form or particle. The universe is made up of struggles. It's all related.

New album when? My favorite band. So much under rated
Amazed by this album... Be'lakor is incarnation of my soul. Someone finds something from opeth or dark Tranquillity in their music, but not me... They are unique, imho. But never seen them live, what a shame.
Never been so obsessed with a band before, since Opeth amazed my soul. That says a lot about you guys. I love you for this music, thank you 🙏 Do not ever think you aren’t loved. Belakor forever 🦋🌿⚡️🦜 🎸
Every song and every album is a masterpiece in its own right. Love it all, though Breath and Bone is my favorite they're all fantastic with standout songs.
This album the fucking shit, at least top 5 of the decade. All the songs are awesome. I'm glad it's getting music videos, the lyrics are really powerful
Allow me to be as rude as to say you're a fool you're obviously listened to the lyrics that never works especially with music like this . this is way ahead of his time even before time get it😊
This song is the tits McGee 💪. Apparently it's about a pack of wolves under attack? I noticed most their lyrics are about animals and nature, pretty cool.
A Be'Lakor song a day, keeps the pain away
hahah, true :D
More like 3 albums a day💪🤓🤟

So melodic, so deep, so different from others.
That is a mad outro from 5:39, I'd love to hear that live, especially extended for a min or two!
One of strongest Bands in metal i can nearly hear all songs and it doesn't gets boring 😈
ive listened to this album so many times its still as good as the first listen
There is no single track of all the four albums that is boring !!
you're so fuckn right :D
Same here!
"Dispensable, it served no use. The others would adapt." Probably one of the most, if no the most devastating lines I've ever read in a song.
Can you explain what are they trying to say here?
and that transition to the chugging riff that follows, oh man. But yeah that "adapt" vocal wrings out goosebumps.

Fav song off the albums. Welcome back boys
2nd favorite to me. Number one is "Smoke of many fires". Still, awesome album for sure!
with Be'lakor misery disappears

Que delícia...
A sabe from Brazil \,,/
at first i THOUGHT this woud be new song, but noo it wasnt.... :( damn ytube tricked
post in Heavy/rock page
Pangolins!
Actually I'm like 99% sure it's about moles
\m/agnific
Its good but i still like of breath and bone.
What kind of creatures are these?
It's about wolves. I'm pretty sure
Video shows wolves and then like cattle skulls or something so think maybe a pack of wolves under attack by some other unknown creature.
in my opinion this is the "weakest" track of vessels, as its too melancholic..... but its still very good
Funny how tastes differ between metalheads, this is my favorite on the album because of how sad it is.
