They make the part called S&W lock delete. It's a plug that goes in place of the key hole.

Agree, the lock is stupid. What is the chance it jams the gun? I never tried the lock. Left the keys in the box.

More parts to break with the lock. Current quality seems hit or miss. Mine broke after 26 shots.

I carried a 637 concealed but about 6 months of carrying it in a holster it wore the finish off. Smith refinished it no cost. I sold it & went with a model 60-14. . Used Flitz polish & it's like chrome on older car bumpers.

I totally agreed. That was the reason why I stop buying smith and wesson revolvers. They've placed this internal locks on all revolvers now. I have the old smith and wesson 642 without the lock and I will be keeping it forever.

They make the 442/642 without the internal lock; I just bought one at Gander Mountain. There are a couple of other models, too.

Just more to break. Mine did after 26 shots. Currently quality seems hit or miss too.

The internal lock can be removed without leaving a hole in the gun. You just take the flag device that locks the hammer and leave the circular disc that the key goes into. There is a video that shows how to do this and it doesn't waste time whining about the lock and taking it to the man. You didn't explain anything about how to do this.

He even exachanged the "circular disk" with a plug. But he didnt told where he got it from. Would be a good selling after marked part!

There is a after market part available that can be used as a spacer to fill in the hole that is left when the lock is removed.
Sure would be nice if S&W put the lock somewhere where it could be replaced without leaving a blemish and scar on the frame.

Those MIM parts are so ugly! It made the gun look so unfinished.

S&W is having problems lately, I found 3 revolvers at a shop that had canted barrels.

zoggy2 my grandfather had one from the 70's like that. Shot one and a half feet up and to the right at 7 yards. Smith and Wesson quality is a myth. It's because they have a history of shining them guns up real purdy like.

642 performance center no lock for the win. now you have a hammer that can! get hung up in emergency situations and a hole in the side for who knows what to get in and gum up your internals. I don't know man good lunch. at least put the screw back in with lock tight or something.

I just keep mine inside a gallon container of MobileOne Synthetic. Pull it out, shake off the excess and good to go.

If you use it even in self defense, a modified gun makes you the guilty party.

Pretty dumb not to buy a gun because of the “principal” of a lock.
