I wish I had known about using a phillip screw driver to put in the rebound spring like you did. For years getting that spring back in has been hell for me. Thank you for showing me an easy way to do it with a common every day tool!

I called Smith and Wesson customer service and they told me that I can't send it to them with the live rounds in the cylinder. After watching your disassembly and reassembly video I was able not only to repair my gun but also determine that it was the ammo that jammed the gun thank you so very much
Very good detailed demonstration. I promise you make it look much easier than it is for me to do it. I actually got about 20% finished then had to call in the professional to finish the reassembly. Looks like more practice is necessary. To anyone out there thinking that they can do this on the first try I wish you all the best luck in the world.
Thanks for this video. Mike Jack can you post a video of how to install the hand tension spring? Explain how it is positioned in the trigger and how to position the hand to get the spring installed correctly. A great number of people would greatly appreciate it!!!!
+Mike Jack Very helpful, I just got a brand new 627-5 S&W I was bummed when I took it to the range and had multiple ammo failures. Apparently S&W is putting shorter firing pins in their guns now but you can order longer ones from an independent company (Cylinder & Slide Inc) and replace them. I was thinking of disabling the internal lock too but I might just wait on that it was a real pain in the butt trying to put that side plate back on for the first time!

Outstanding video. You make it look so easy! I have one question: I'm not an avid revolver guy, but you hear people talking a lot about correct timing when it comes to revolvers. Is that something to be concerned with during disassembly/reassembly or is it more related to parts tolerances and wear?
There is no reason to be concerned about correct timing when you reassembly your revolver, revolver mechanics are simple, if the parts is good and you do like I do in this video your revolver will shoot again.
My new SW 686 plus came with the rebound pin/spring, but my new 586 only came with rebound spring. No pin. I am talking about the spring @7:00. For some reasons the trigger return on my 686 is smoother than my 586. Is it because missing the pin?
Hi if the trigger return is smoother the rebound spring is lighter, the overtravel stop pin in the spring do nothing and i dont think S&W more use the pin.

No it is not necessary to completely strip the gun down like this, it will fire many thousands of rounds before a part breaks and must be replaced.

There is no reason to be concerned about correct timing when you reassembly your revolver, revolver mechanics are simple, if the parts is good and you do like I do in this video your revolver will shoot again.

MJ, is there a reason you put the cylinder in before putting the hammer in, then you take it back out? Necessary or habit? Another great video too
