I had manic episode scrolling through TikTok. At one point I notice myself just mindlessly scrolling in such a weird way, I was trying to stop myself and I couldn’t which made scroll rapidly through content without even blinking until I finally threw the phone across the room. I lost control of myself due to an app and that scared that sh*t out of me. I still go in now and then but not very often tbh. Be safe, know your intention on why you’re using these apps, be aware of your mental health when navigating into these SM waters.

Instead of betting their money, people are getting their thoughts, their emotions, their self concept and the things that make up their identity and can't get them back once they're out there. So many people betting all that for potentially nothing. I love the idea of being a creator. I love the idea of forming a community, but when I think about that - millions of people seeing me in my bedroom, hearing my truest beliefs, seeing the energy in my eyes, my voice, my soul, and never being able to take it back? That's a huge risk for me, for my identity, for my relationship with myself. And that's something I really need to be sure I'm ready for if I ever go for it.

I frequently remind my clients, who have a desire to be content creators, that the algorithm doesn’t love you. Do, and love, your work - no matter who sees it or engages with it... know that who needs to see it will find it. Build in the real world as well as on socials. See the reflections of your work with actual people. Listen to, and with, your whole heart. Love the adventure. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us🌻

Ironically, it feels like a casino because it uses the same marketing/ psychological techniques of the casino. The app blocks out your screen so you can’t view the time, notifications, etc at the top or bottom of the screen. Just as casinos don’t have windows or clocks for you to not realize the time you’ve spent there. It locks you in and before you know it, hours have passed. It’s all psychological marketing techniques. It was created with the exact casino techniques, that app is by far the WORST app for several reasons.

TikTok as a platform is awful. The number of writer colleagues I have who have used the platform to market their books and while they have had some success, a common problem they have all suffered from is that several months later they have found their books have been 'stolen' and are being sold on third party platforms by someone else. For my own business purposes, I will NEVER touch TikTok. Instagram is bad enough, but TikTok is a whole new level of 🤮

I have over 60k followers on TikTok and I used to get viral videos every post up until I got around 20k followers my views started dropping and so did my engagement so I started posting using trending sounds and recreating or adding on trending videos and I shot up to 66k and I hated every single moment because I wasn’t making content that I loved I was making content that would make me “look cool”. I think about this all the time! The social media game this days is very challenging mentally. Even building my own community is hard because I need to “win the lottery” to build my community.
Right now I am struggling with creating videos on topics that are not well-discoverable. Such topics can help me to show up authentically and talk about things that really matter to me.
A big portion of my subs come from videos about travel but I don’t think this community is very grateful or interested in anything else except what places they can travel too.
And I keep making those travel videos out of habit at this point because they usually perform better and because they are easier to make.
You inspire me to keep working on those less SEO optimized topics…

Crazy I was quite literally thinking this today, which is why I clicked this yt vid. It's cool that it's becoming a collective thought. And I've never had tok installed, but I've watched society, and tok has made things really bleak.

Mannn you said nothing but FACTS!!! I remember seeing her video and I was so happy someone was able to clearly put into words what these social media apps are becoming! A casino is the perfect comparison!!

I've noticed TikTok has changed my patience levels. Short video here, short video there. Now I want everything in a short amount of time. I see a long video? I click the x2 feature. I want to know what happens at the end? I SPEED IT UP!
And I don't like that, so I deleted the app a few days ago. I want to take the time to really soak in what I'm seeing/hearing.

I love this analogy. This video is very eye-opening even though I’ve already been thinking about this concept in a different way and understanding that maybe I should take a step back. But also remember why I started creating and posting content and how fun it used to be and see if I can get that same energy back. but this is also why I think maybe TikTok band will be a good thing give me another push to diversify my platforms and places that I create

this came just at a time i decided to take a hiatus from constant uploads. I felt this was some gambling game, always having to keep up with everyone, posting every day to every week so u wont "fall off", Ive always wanted to make my own cartoon, and i never got to because im always making short form content. I decided to just take the leap of faith. Stop uploading, take a break from rat race and just be in my own energy, Ive been enjoying myself, and find myself avoiding social media now.

I didn’t necessarily feel like this whenever I did TikTok I felt like I had a formula that I found work and then stuck to it so it wasn’t really a guessing game after that and I think a lot of niche creators might understand when I’m saying when you get us a lot of followers for one thing you know what they want to see you post so you keep doing that. But that feeling of dopamine whenever a video did do good is giving very much casino.

Nah I use TikTok as my full time job . It’s very much a strategy and seo game just like every other app. Here and there they push out something random . But literally a strong hook, posting what people are searching for , and a bit of controversy does it every time .

I'm very glad I'm off of social media (other than TH-cam... I gotta stay connected to the chill spot somehow and don't currently have the means for the paid community). I just come on here to mindfully search for what I like. I hope it stays that way or at least that I can keep my own self control amidst the addiction

It's so true! In 2022 Instagram completely changed the algorithm and I didn't understand. I went from getting thousands of likes to a good 20 likes or 100 if I was lucky. I started making less money, tried to keep up with the trends, cried, gave up, came back, gave. up again and came back again lol... all of a sudden I'm getting thousands of likes again and my sales went back up somewhat. It's completely out of our control. When they feel like showing you to your followers or explore page they will and when they don't want to oh well for you. I surrender and put it in Gods hands.
