16:00 "He wanted to know about money, because he's still worried about his pennies!" All the times I've read this story, or watched the movie, that never occurred to me, but that's absolutely right. Thanks for making that clear to me.
This was a brilliant movie I remember when it come out in 1986 I was at secondary school but it really did hit home with me because I lost my brother in 1987 and my parents were exactly the same this really does bring back memories of the 1980s I was gutted when river phoenix died , kids don’t do this anymore I spent my whole summer holidays out like this as a kid obviously not searching for dead bodies but just the sheer adventure of being out with friends climbing trees etc it doesn’t happen anymore with this generation its all about computer games staying in really enjoy your movie reactions ❤
Ok when I was 12 the only friends I had where cousins and got into boys at that age (they where 1yr older and 1yr younger) dropped me in less than a year and have not talked to me much since then plus I've not had a friend since then so we'll .... But I love this movie and it is in my top 10 movies in my library and I have a little over 2000 movies, I have been collecting my library for about 30yrs.
This movie was one of the most earnest and heartfelt depictions of childhood one can watch. It also was a more positive take on Stephen King’s story. In “the Body” Gordy is the only one who lived to be a mature adult. And Within weeks after the stand off with Ace, they all get the crap kicked out of them at some point by members of the gang.
I was 13 when this movie came out, the same age as these kids, and I was 9 when E.T. came out and Elliott was 10. We had GREAT adventure movies for our age to watch. I grew up watching all these kids grow up in movies, Corey Feldman was even in Gremlins, The Goonies and The Lost Boys. If you haven’t yet, you should watch ALL those 👍🏻
This is such an excellent movie with a great cast. Some other good movies based on books written by Stephen King are, Carrie (1976), The Shawshank Redemption (1994), Misery (1990), Dolores Claiborne (1995), The Green Mile (1999). Other excellent movies directed by Rob Reiner are, The Princess Bride (1987), This Is Spinal Tap (1984), A Few Good Men (1992), When Harry Met Sally (1989).
I miss the early 90s when I was a teenager, and me and friends would pack our tents etc and just go on a adventure in the woods to explore etc.. No cellphones etc.
River Phoenix was supposed to be the next huge Hollywood star. He died about 10 years later from a drug OD. HIS brother is Juaquin Phoenix, did The Joker movie couple years ago
Kieffer Sutherland and Cory Feldman went right from this, to making Lost Boys!😮😮😮 The fat kid is a big star and turned out built and a good looking guy!
Great movie. This movie is always kind of sad considering Reaver Phonix died in real life. Another great kid adventure movie is Flight Of The Navigator . A great coming of age movie (With older people not kids) no one reacted to is Big Wednesday.
Great reaction! I love how you guys break down the movies you watch and discuss them. I love this movie. One of the things that I love the most is the fact that this story was written by Stephen King. So many people don't realize just how good he is.
Other films from Stephen King novels : "Thinner," "Needful Things," "Carrie," "Storm of the Century," "Dead Zone, " "Silver Bullet," and "Misery." Great reaction to "Stand By Me"
I loved my childhood friends. The thing is, I’m not friends with any of them at all anymore, other than on Facebook, which doesn’t really count. But I cherish the childhood memories, especially those hot summer nights when we’d play in the backyard til well after it was dark out and our moms made us come inside.
Thank. I enjoy this film and appreciate you reacting to it. I can't afford most of the newer material you have been doing so I was glad to see this one.
This film had the same author as Misery, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Carrie, Cujo, Christine, Dolores Claiborne, The Shining, and Pet Sematary. I really enjoy you both!😊💚 Stand By Me= A modern classic, filmed in the beautiful state of Oregon and simply iconic for the actors, music and script.💚 The movie is an adaptation from a short story written by none other than Stephen King, called the Body. If I'm remembering correctly.
I was aboy in the 70s and we were always having adventures . . . . dangerous as well as just plain fun. Our generation invented moto-cross and skateboarding. Even though this was set in the late 50s the nature of it existed through our generation. After the 80s childhood changed utterly. I love this movie.
Once, at a company picnic, I entered the pie eating contest and we had to eat our pies just like in this scene with Davie Hogan. My competitors were all twice as big as me, and the pies were banana cream, or something like it. The contest nearly killed me, and I have never done anything like it since.
Every kid who grew up the generation of this movie holds it as one of their favourites. The great thing is is that the film has never dated, which has turned it in to a classic that every generation can enjoy.
River Phoenix who played Chris died very young; the final scene of this movie is hard to watch with that in mind. He was a very talented actor and so is his brother Joaquin Phoenix.
Glad you guys liked this movie. it was one of my favorites when I was younger because I had similar friendships growing up. Boy did we always seem to wind up getting ourselves into some kind of mess. Although we never went to see a dead body, we built the tree house, camped out all the time, went exploring through the woods behind our houses, and were usually outside doing something from dawn until the street lights came on. I had read the short story by Stephen King before the movie came out so I was stoked when it hit the theaters. It's completely different than most of his novels, but one of his best in my opinion. Watching it as an adult it takes on an even greater significance that you don't appreciate when you're a kid.
Always loved this movie watching it with my folks growing up. Two weeks ago an old friend took his life, boy it's a lot tougher than I thought. This movie reminds me of growing up and my buddy Chris!
I remember watching this film as a child with my father. I have always loved it but I have to admit, the film does hit you harder as you grow up. Gordie's last line is true and I hate knowing it. I have never had any friends like the ones that I did when I was eleven.
River Phoenix (Actor who played Chris) is Joaquin Phoenix brother. He was such a huge deal in the late 80s and early 90s. A very talented Actor who was in the pack with Keanu reeves, Johnny Depp, Christian slater and such etc. He died young at the age of 23 in 1993, if he was alive he wouldve taken most of the movies Dicaprio made and Johnny Depp. Many directors had him in mind for their upcoming movies as he was the hot shot of the time
This story was one of four in a book called "Different Seasons". It included the story "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption". At the time, it was the first book by Stephen King that wasn't a scary or horrer book.
Except for "The Breathing Method". . . . . that story is a little creepy especially the ending. And "Apt Pupil" was terrifying though it had no real supernatural components.
@@fullmoonprepping4024 And when you think about it, "The Body," which was the basis for *Stand by Me,* includes multiple horror elements, though they're configured differently than they would be in a true horror story.
Anyone else used to have such a crush on River Phoenix like me?!?😍😁.I often wonder what movies he would have starred in if he had lived. 😢His death affected many... Rest in Peace.
You guys are the best. I've been watching you for a long time now and you've grown into one of the best reaction channels on YT. Both of you really engage with the material and bring your own perspective that you share so naturally and talk about it together. You're fantastic. Joy, I still remember you coaching Marian early on, on how to read some of the plot and visual storytelling. But now I gotta say, Mar's become as much a movie scholar and reads between the lines better than most people I know. Great job you guys, I just have to shout you out on such a great movie and equally great reaction. Keep it up.
Marion, another OG train tracks kid like me, I always knew it ever since you two watched the Godfather. There's just certain things you notice in movies that only my other friends who grew up on the tracks would pick up. We definitely would have been friends when we were around eleven years old.
A very good Kiefer Sutherland thriller I'm sure you'd both enjoy is called 'Eye For An Eye' that came out back in 1996. He stars along with Sally Field or I suppose she would be the main star if we go by screen time.
You missed the fact that River Phoenix was the brother of Joachim Phoenix and that he died young. River died of acute multiple drug intoxication involving lethal levels of cocaine and morphine at age 23 outside the Viper Room, Johnny Depp's Los Angeles club.
I love both of your commentaries. Y'all see the deeper truths of the film. Thanks! There are so many Stephen King stories you should watch! Try Dolores Claiborne. It's a non-supernatural movie too.
Back then smoking was just “Cool” Nobody knew how dangerous it was yet. River Phoenix was Amazing til the day he died💫this came out the year I graduated HS . I went to see at the Theater. Loved
Not as good as the classic kid movie, The Sandlot, but still pretty good! Sandlot is best kids movie ever made. The saying and the meme," Your killin me, Smalls!", will live forever!

Very sad when Vern dropped his comb into the river.

That Misery. I have a hard time watching that one. Kathy Bates scares the hell out of me in that one. Those are all good movies.

crazy that Shawshank and Stand by Me were just two short stories that came from the same book
