    Wow! Love this!! Have shared it with the polymer clay people I know. You've done such an excellent job. Now I'm perusing your shop... :0) One question - could you use any pastels on this and then seal them of course? Thanks for the awesome job!

    • @CharlestonClayStudios
      @CharlestonClayStudios  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing! I have not tried other pastels just because I don't believe they would adhere quite as nicely as the pan pastels. However, I always encourage exploration so be my guest to try that out! I do seal with PYMII afterwards to be sure nothing scratches off.

    Hi Shannon, hope you don't mind me asking.... How come your pan pastels don't disperse? Do you seal your tubes afterwards? Love the tutorial! Thnxxxx

    • @CharlestonClayStudios
      @CharlestonClayStudios  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem! I haven't had an issue with the pastels shifting on the clay- with the exception of on the white. It seems to adhere beautifully and not travel. I think the trick is thorough application with a firm but gentle motion. Once I've cured the beads in the oven it doesn't move at all. However, after time there can be wearing off. I seal with PYMII afterwards

    Just a quick question....is the 2016 virtual retreat over? When does the 2017 start??? We'd love to sign up but can't seem to find out what starts when. Will you be teaching on the 2017 retreat. We have wanted to do something special, take a few classes on a retreat, but he has Sarcoidosis and I have Fibromyalgia, both of which keep us mostly indoors and unable to travel. This would be the perfect retreat for us!! Tks

      Hi there! Sorry it took me so long to reply. We had a hurricane here and are just getting back on our feet. The 2016 is still available until December 31st. The 2017 retreat starts January 1st and is awesome! I will be teaching again this year. The wonderful parts of this year are that all the classes are on-demand videos, so you can watch any of them at any time all year! It's so convenient. Hi Shannon! I finally bought some pan pastels and tried this technique. I don't know why but I had a problem with the pastels coming off when I was handling the bead to fix the seem and roll it a little. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! 🙂

    • @CharlestonClayStudios
      @CharlestonClayStudios  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure thing! The real key is thorough rubbing in the application of the pastels, and a very very clean work surface. I keep a baby wipe on the desk and just wipe the tiles with each rolling of the bead. You could also consider spraying a light mist of PYMII on the veneer before rolling. Allow it to dry for about 30 minutes before you roll it. Hope that helps you a bit! Thanks so much for watching!

    Hello from Southern California. Love these beads. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Like Hazel, I have a problem with the pastel fading along the seam line when attempting to blend, even though I am using the lightest touch I can. You said to spray a touch of PYM to the surface before rolling. How will this effect the clay/colors during the baking process. Since it is flammable when wet, if I let it dry before baking will there be a problem?

    • @CharlestonClayStudios
      @CharlestonClayStudios  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So glad you enjoyed it! Yes just spray a very light coat and allow the veneer to dry for a bit. I waited several hours and did not have any issue with curing or baking. Hope that helps! Thanks for asking and especially for watching!

    Thanks for a great video. Do you have a preferred method of baking these beads? Do you place them on a tile or prop them in corn starch or some other method? Thanks a bunch

      Hi Karen! I use ceramic tiles and very gently lay them on. You can also use bead racks- I do that many times. There are some great diy bead racks for baking polymer on Pinterest that work very well! Thanks for watching!

      I use a very thin veneer and roll at the 4 or 5 setting. Have fun!

      It is a spray sealer that works wonderfully on these beads! Just look up PYMII on google and you will find the website and there are some companies that carry it.

    Why do you keep calling brown colors ugly and muddy???

    • @CharlestonClayStudios
      @CharlestonClayStudios  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's just my term for the scrap clay. Sometimes when you blend lots of colors together to form the scraps- it can look a bit like mud. Basically you don't have to create a beautiful piece if you are just going to use it for the inside of a bead. Thanks so much for asking and for watching!
