"Back then", when Phoibos was a new brand, they were pretty much the best watches you could get arround $300. San Martin didn't exist at this time. I rember when I first started buying San Martin watches and suddenly Phoibos watches felt cheap next to them

I think I must be the only person who doesn't like aventurine dials. Everything else is spot on though, if they did one with a gloss black dial it would be a winner
You're not the only person. I always liked them on pictures and video but when I actually bought a watch with an Adventurine dial (a Phoibos, coincidentally), I ended up being massively underwhelmed.
Bezel action preference is relatively subjective. Unless it's misaligned, loose with lots of bounce/ play, then the action is really down to personal opinion.
The 40 minute marker engraved on the rehaut appears to be upside down. It’s opposite to the orientation of the 40 minute marker on the bezel. I think that would drive me crazy.
I have taken a look at their website and it seems that upper half of rehaut's numbers are written normally, and lower half are upside down - for legibility, I suppose.
I took another look on the website and you're right, I can now see why they did it that way. Still think it looks odd next to the rotating bezel but it's not as bad as I first thought. Thanks!
Indeed. Some people (many TH-cam reviewers) like Seikos bezel action, I very much dislike it which is why I never keep Seiko divers in the collection for long
I just got the Leviathan limited edition. The bezel action is very muted and so accurate. Also got the Zelos Swordfish DLC. Also accurate but so loud and clicky by comparison. Love them both.
Thanks for showing it to us. Looks very nice. Should be very popular but definitely not looking to get another diver for a while. Thanks for the great unboxing and first impressions.
@@jimmyhuang8730 I took a chance on a Chinese-made watch a couple of years ago. It was available via a certain well-known online auction house, and was avaliable with a variety of movement options. AI selected the PT5000 movement as I wanted to try a Chinese copy of a Swiss brand. The dial is in black which fades gradually to a dark blue. The second hand is in red which contrasts rather nicely with the dial. The bezel is ceramic and the glass is sapphire while the watch case is 316 SS, the bracelet is in 304 SS. Bezel action is so-so but coming in under £100 and running surprisingly accurately It really is rather good. I don't regret purchasing it.
" Interesting and strongly designed" made me smile, this Phoibos seems quite refined compared to some. It has to be difficult to continually come up with something new with every new piece, this one would be in my "I could wear that" category although I think it's a little bit pricey
I like it!... for me its about the balance of finishing verses the dial and hands set. I don't generally like too much bling but natural materials like adventurine with small sparks of light is acceptable. As in life its subjective and watches are very much a case in point. Like the way I prefer automatic movements, then solar , manuals and then quartz. Even got a tourbion... Chinese of course as ive got less money than i have sense 😅. For me personally £500 is the maximum I'd pay for any watch. But it's subjective and if you get pleasure from a watch and can afford it go for it ... and good luck to you 👍.
They built last time beautiful watches and amazing quality:; very accurate movements. Chinese like Steel Dive, Addiessdive, San Martin, Tandorio and Pagani Design make a really competition and increase any days the quality; it' s true the price increase all so but steel very good ratio Price/ Quality.
@ it’s a much better gauge of quality, or at least the health of the sample you got, than a single position read. Not saying you need to show the whole process it would be a boring watch (no pun intended lol) but if you’re going to show anything at all off the timegrapher, only the full picture is actually meaningful. It’s only an extra 5 mins to do it properly. You could just show the main shot and stick the table up as an overlay to placate us nerds. In contrast to most TH-cam watch reviewers. With some of the newer stuff using seriously high quality movements I think it’s worth acknowledging why the big boys are running scared. Storytime, I just got a Proxima, and not only is it spectacularly well built and well finished, it shows better numbers on the timegrapher than another piece I own which is COSC certified. Worth keeping tabs on these young contenders!
There is little to complain about with this watch. I'm saying this, although I'm not a fan of the brand. For me, proper no date movements are an indication of how seriously a watch brand takes it's engineering. I'm talking to you, San Martin!
You people must be sleeping under a rock. Considering it under $400 including shipping, it's actually a good bargain for the watch. How many microbrands that you know of that put out specs like this and uses a miyota 9000 movement whom sell their watch for under $400. Only very few microbrands can do this.
9:14 Doesn't any know why most of the brands (even micro brands or famous brands) like using BGW9 LumiNova than C3? Is BGW9 cost lower? Phoibos new releases this year only use BGW9 but it has one model - Voyager 3 PY035C using C3. I think C3 is much brighter and also long lasting.🤔🤔
I’m just one man but would much rather bwg9 to c3. I am also pretty sure c3 is a better performer. How often do we need the lume anyway? I’d rather it look good when I infrequently need it for a few seconds
@@cyberjoe77 It definitely is, I can assure you. I got one recently. Apart from the excellent quality overall, it is keeping good time. Less than -3 spd.
@@cyberjoe77 build quality is decent, on par with San Martin. Logo made it feel it bit toy like for me but it's not overly intrusive. Mine was about 15 secs a day out, still in tolerance for an NH35 but that was the other contributing factor for me.
@ Thank you so much. It caught my eye and Its on sale for less than 200USD. I have to check again because i think it has a different movement other than the NH35. I appreciate your insight.👍🏻
I have a dive watch and I haven’t worn it in years. I don’t understand the appeal. Phoibos watches were already pretty well finished and it looks like they stepped it up. If they released a “gada” or sports watch I’d be all over it
I get what you’re saying but these day hardly anyone would use it as a ‘tool’. I suspect less than one percent of viewers would ever dive with it. Still think there is a place for watches like this.
@@peetiegonzalez1845 I half agree, plenty of 'divers' are show-pieces with precious metals and such, but the dial on this would look garbage on a Rolex too. Leave bling to dress watches (or no watches).
It could be a fantastic watch if it wasn't a useless diver. Get rid of that bezel then replace the wasted space with a larger dial and it would be perfect 👨🏻🦲👌🏻 I really like the beads of rice bracelet.
Improved finish is due to the “San Martin effect”.
Everyone is having to up their game to compete.

Nah, you’re not alone…too gimmicky for mine…but hey this is a very subjective pastime 😊
I’m another one that doesn’t get adventurine dials, so this isn’t for me. Horses for courses.
Me too
Not on a dive watch, to me it seems out of place.
On a dressier watch maybe.
Have I slipped through the looking glass, Phoibos homaging a San Martin?😁

It's the bezel upside-down, because it's rotated

Incidentally, that's how it is in the San Martin watches like SN0116, SN0118, etc.
timeless and tagging competently have an martin.
A little annoying that it leaves the factory running 15 seconds fast. You would think they'd spend a couple of minutes fixing that...
5:40 The problem is bezel action is subjective. Your love for clicky bezels is not everyones first choice

Which Leviathan did you get that is Limited Edition? New 40mm or the larger one… Ta!
The case shape reminds me of a Christopher Ward
Dive watches are good looking, functional and versatile. This is why they are loved by the watch community.
True. But they ARE getting kinda played out, IMHO. I'm on a dress watch kick.
I appreciate the upgrades in finishing and the movement. I love the dial. At just under $500, they're trying to swim in the deep end.
Under $400

the top half is reversed for easy readability, and the bottom half is normal
