  • All you need to know about the legendary Sennheiser HD540s. 7 hours of research, powerpoint preparation and practice is draining☠️, do I sound too formal btw? 🦧

600 Ohm all the time. I built myself a custom amplifier with crossfeed specially to pair with these. Amazing headphones!

A very well thought out video! I have been considering making some videos about headphones from this series too

Great video bro ! I would love to see a series of videos where you talk about the evolution of range of headphones of certains brands. For example the sennheiser lineup evolution and talk about the difference between the low to high end products.

I ordered a pair of HD520 last week, for $60 USD. Should be here soon. Can't wait. I love vintage headphones. I also have a set of HD480 which are also very good.

I'm pretty sure the white fabric is what's exposed when the original black coating flakes off. I have a pair of HD540 References that I bought new in the late 80s and that's what the originally black cushions now look like. Still looking for suitable replacement cushions. I'd be curious where you sourced replacement foam to sew in to your cushions.

You're correct, once the pleather wears, it'll expose the same type of white fabric. I reused the old foam so that was probably a short-sighted decision in retrospect, as long as you buy some low density foam it should work properly

Can you hear a difference between the hd540 300 ohm and the hd540 gold 300 ohm?

Yes, subtle but noticeable. All I can say is the Gold has more flesh to it, more real in a sense. If finances allow, go for the Golds, if cost v performance is concerned I'd recommend the Reference.
