- To celebrate Alien's 40th anniversary and in partnership with Tongal, 20th Century Fox is releasing new Alien-universe fan-made short films leading up to Alien Day on April 26th. Written and directed by the Spear Sisters, the synopsis for "Ore" reads: "As a hard-working miner of a planet mining colony, Lorraine longs to make a better life for her daughter and grandchildren. When her shift uncovers the death of a fellow miner under mysterious circumstances, Lorraine is forced to choose between escape or defying management orders and facing her fears to fight for the safety of her family."

@@Vscustomprinting Actually they probably would've died if they took the elevator up. The company would probably arrange them to be trapped somewhere else instead-they just didn't know that.
Keep in mind the operator with the video feed was already secretly turning off lights to make things harder for them-worse may have been done elsewhere.
Plus in real life if a group of people are being shot at it actually increases the chance of survival if a bunch of people (not just 1 or 2) throw objects at or charge at the gunman.

Thats so irritating because its just unrealistic. Why is there always this one person. Its like mario and the princes plot, same narrative over and over again. Seems like the alien franchise doesnt even work without it.
@@melonytoni9016 Its the idea that the company will benefit from the use of the Alien and because its a rare sight into finding one why they will always try and capture it and let people die if it means they get the alien.
@@melonytoni9016 That is because the true villain of the Alien universe is not the Xenomorph, but the Company/Weyland Yutani, as represented by those characters who work for them or were created by them, whether that is an Android like Ash of a an ambitious corporate climber like Burke.
Remember that the first Alien movie was released in 1979, and Aliens came out in 1986 - both were heavily influenced by the sci fi literature of the time (such as the cyberpunk genre, many of the most celebrated examples of which date from the Eighties), and that was shot through with references to the real world political issues of the period, including the unfettered economic power and lack of political accountability of the large transnational corporations that came to prominence back then.
The whole point of this trope within the Alien setting is that, vicious and dangerous as the Xenomoprh is, its threat is limited on its own. It doesn't posses an advanced, technology using form of intelligence. It can't travel from one world to another on its own, and could be relatively easily contained by the technology of the humans in many situations if it weren't for the fact that Weyland Yutani, and those like them, place greater value on the money that could be made by exploiting this living piece of alien biotechnology than they do on the lives of the humans who work for them. It is a parable about greed and the dangers of unaccountable power.
This film really captures the aesthetic I love about the Alien franchise. The way all of the sets and technology look like they could be either in space or on earth is just such a cool way to keep the film grounded.
Out of the shorts, this is my top fav. Everything from the acting, the interactions of the cast, creepy atmosphere, and the effects. Everything was so spot on alien!
Great touch using the retro-style technology.
It gives off the true Alien atmosphere of the original movies.
YEAH WELL, AND JUST IN SOME INSTANCES "OLD TECH" MAY BE MORE STABLe for the situation.. like you dont want to be mining in an area of space that gets hit by a solar flare and fries everything, and you not have easy-to-fix manual systems
I love the authenticity of these shorts.
The Original Movie is set in the future, that's why space travel is easy.
@@Vscustomprinting Also investment goes first to the harder to replace and nonrenewables in mining. A super fast lift made of more expensive materials that would need shipping onto site is unlikely to happen. Building from what is available and made cheaply will. Unfortunately this is part of the worst of Capitalism 101. Which is a basis for the entire series.

I loved the reference to Special Order 937 from the original movie. Where in the original, the message reads "insure return of organism", that's a grammatical error and should say "ensure". The similar message in this short retains the same mistake as a nice subtle reference, and shows an admirable attention to detail by the people behind this one.
This one, and Specimen, are the best yet, in my opinion.

This one adds background to the protagonist, however; I believe the best one is Specimen still for its slow seamlessness

Finally! Eggs, colonists, xeno killing people, evil android following WY directives, dark ambient and a badass character. 8 minutes very well used! Congrats, this short makes justice to Alien saga

Don't forget her fellow miners deciding to stick with her. Probably not all of them would pick killing the morph over getting away but it shows that they know they stand a better chance of solving the problem by sticking together. Heck I'd probably choose to go along with her, although I'd probably be scared shitless facing that thing.

I utterly loved this short. The acting and effects were spot on. Such great character depth for a short as well. The actress who played Hanks did an awesome job by the subtle emotions of being a synth. I didn’t need to read the screen or hear the locked out guy asking if she was broken to know whose side she was on. Also kudos with the movie call backs too!
This is the second best so far. Specimen is still the best, but I liked how the colonists here knew what was going on
This was so well done. The scene transitions, the original plot and its structured in a way that makes us all want more from this corner of the ALIEN universe!
This is for me the most accurate Tribute so far.
This is the best one yet! You get to feal for the characters and understand their motives all in ten minutes. Amazingly done give this writer/director a full budget to see what they can do.

Since only one miner went missing, there’s probably only one xenomorph and 4-5 facehugger eggs that were uncovered

Yet another outstanding Alien short film! The last one wasn't the best, but this had me wanting to see what's next. The writing was fantastic! You don't often see the group stand together like that against the big bad in a horror flick, so that was a nice turnout. The adult xenomorph was well done. It was haunting and stealthy much like the one in the first film. They showed just enough of it. The effects were realistic and subtle. Like many of my favorite sci-fi/horror flicks, I worry about the future of the franchise devolving into Syfy channel medicrity. However, these short films are exquisite so far...very artful.

I'm really enjoying these short films! I I appreciate the blue-collar grit and the character focus, and where the xenos are concerned, definitely less is more! There's a tension to these films that's been sorely missing from the franchise; it's more palpable, yet subtly inhabiting every frame, every set. You can almost smell the stink of terror coming off of these people. I'll bet if the filming budgets were more generous, we'd be seeing some unrated wholesale annihilation. (Just a little is enough.) Again, these are terrific little gifts for the 40th anniversary. Bravo!
Really enjoyed this one, felt like a prelude to aliens. This one and the other short with the dog are the best so far imo.

I always thought the little people working in corporate space was the real charm of Aliens. This short got that.
The Spear Sisters are killing it! This is really well-done.
I liked that they changed it up a bit and didn't actual fight the creature, it left it on a cliffhanger.

None of these take place on Earth. Also, if you are referring to the novel/comic series I've yet to see any signs of a religious cult.
The should work those books into films. But Fox tried that by ripping of the AvP novel "Prey" for the first AvP movie. But ruined it entirely.

Excellent work, congratulations to all cast and staff, this is how you handle the alien franchise, by respecting it and writing stories that fit the world of the original.

These short films have the perfect level of tension that Covenant just couldn’t pull off.
Covenant had its issues but lack of tension was not one of them.
It and Prometheus broke their tension with overwhelming stupidity too often to handle.

My favourite episode! Story, atmosphere, style and cast at high level!
Having worked in safety, I like the little touches here: trying to prevent workers from overworking; as soon as there's a possible accident, medical is alerted, and the workers get a camera to document the scene. Nobody is ever alone. I like the fact the writers seem to understand some basics about how companies like this operate.
So impressed with this one. Great dialogue writing/story telling, directing, very impressive sets. All around this was top-notch. These 2 should be doing a full one Alien movie next.

Weyland-Yutani needs to take a page out of the UNSC/ONI workbook and recognize that the Xenomorph is completely uncontrollable and useless as a bioweapon. It only took the Mona Lisa incident for the UNSC to suspend all attempts to weaponize the Flood and to instead focus on producing counter measure armors, protocols, and weapons.
That was cool, a prelude to Aliens. Nice! The sequel was amazing!

Brilliant. Just 10 minutes to tell a familiar story and a really professional feel to it.
I will keep saying it this is the type of writing that can rejuvenate the franchise and take it forward.
