  • Welcome to a short gearbox insight, or how to give a broken 2-stroke engine casing a second life. The video can give you a pretty good idea of how this particular 4-speed transmission (similar to many others) works in case you are not familiar with it. It also shows the unique mechanism which JAWA engineers developed to combine kickstarter and gear lever. Same hardware is installed in older #IdealJawa or #Yezdi bikes. In this video, the gearbox is shown in action…
    Thanks for watching as well as your positive comments.

    Aussergewohnliche ! At 9:40 the demonstration of the Jawa’s dual function Gear shift lever/shaft and Kick starter lever/shaft
    is very well done. *
    I had a 1966 Jawa and always admired its design and overall riding experience. Valuable videos & Craftsmanship. thanks for sharing.
    I know the shifter/kicker also actuated the Clutch as well on my ‘66. Amazing - three functions. Made for some nice “power-shifting” while underway and 1-2 shift front wheel “elevations” !

    Really awesome bike, i had one, the only remark, I preferred the original kickstart and shift lever . Never imagine one could take a jawa to this level, keep the great work!!

      Thank you. If you want to put bigger exhaust pipes on a vintage Jawa, you’ll need more space between starter lever and exhaust belly. That’s the main reason why I changed it.

      @@Quiet.Light.Engineering May I know you belong to which country? And if possible try to make a video about how to repair Jawa vehicles on our own for the basics instead depending on mechanic. And what needs to be checked if we face starting trouble etc,. You can try making this as a series. It will be very useful and thanks for your time to post these kind of videos and educating us. Much appreciated my friend. Love from Chennai, India.

    Great video showing how the gearbox, kickstart and shifter works! I have a Jawa 350 (634) that doesn't go into 4th gear. Any thoughts on which parts I will need to replace? Also, can this job be done with the engine in the bike, or does it need to be removed from the frame? Having a hard time finding video's or information on this in English. Appreciate it!

    • @Quiet.Light.Engineering
      @Quiet.Light.Engineering  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most likely you will have to remove the engine and split the casing. The JAWA gearbox is simple. It will probably be obvious what‘s broken if you have the stuff in front of you.

      Siegfried, thank so much for the response. Sounds like a good winter project to take the motor out the frame, open it, try to see what needs replacing, order some parts and put 'er back together again. I am okay with taking the engine out, but before I crack the case I want to know a bit more about what I am getting myself into, so trying to find a good video or two (in English) that show the process of splitting the right hand side of the case. If you or anyone reading knows of one, please let me know. Really appreciate it!

    Hello! I am just learning stuff and I've got a Java 250 1972 and I want to rebuild it to modern day ride.
    Is it possible to swap it from 4 speed to 6 speed, and will that make a diffrence like being faster?

    • @Quiet.Light.Engineering
      @Quiet.Light.Engineering  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, it is not easily possible to put a 6-speed gearbox into the old Jawa engine case. Better to swap the entire engine with modern hardware in this case, or go for another bike.

    Amazing video👍👍👍👍 may i please know the sequence of gears for jawa 250?

    • @Quiet.Light.Engineering
      @Quiet.Light.Engineering  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, what exactly do you mean by sequence?

    • @graphitestonelyngdoh2305
      @graphitestonelyngdoh2305 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean the sequence of gears are they 17teeth gear on main shaft with19teeth gear on lay shaft and then 20teeth gear on main shaft with 16 teeth gear on lay shaft ...is this right?

    • @Quiet.Light.Engineering
      @Quiet.Light.Engineering  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Standard sequence is as follows (without adding layshaft ratio):
      1st: 12/24 2nd: 16/20 3rd: 19/17 4: 1/1
      For closer ratio between 3 & 4 one can change as follows:
      1st: 12/24 2nd: 17/19 3rd: 20/16 4th: 1/1

    • @graphitestonelyngdoh2305
