  • Oh the joys of old cars... not 😐 We want to pull the 1948 Chevy Fleetline out of the shipping container and drive it into the new building but we're not sure if it's going to run or if we'll be able to get the brakes unstuck 🆘

    Chad & Jolene you guys do you and I will keep watching, maybe I am easily amused but, I enjoy watching no matter what project you are working on. Either the needle & seat or the float are stuck in the carb. Tap on the front cover gently with the handle end of a screwdriver or a rubber hammer to see if you can jar them free. You will know if it worked if the carb stops leaking gas. Great work as always guys, be back tomorrow!

    • @yknott9873
      @yknott9873 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I suspect the float has sunk; it's not stopping the gas, and the float bowl is flooding. Is that a Holley 1920? - if so, not a great carb.

    To help with condensation in sea cans, put some roof vents in and side vents to get air movement, like the attic of a house.

      Back in 60s we had that car and used for picking up Boulders for a retaining wall around the house he built. It did its job as kids the neighborhood kid worked all day collecting those rocks them all 10 off us eould pack in to go for 10 cent soft serve. Does bring back memory's. Chad what's that. Worth today. When wall was finished he gave it a way. Was such a work horse it was.

We were limited by what we could get in the back of our Ford Escort wagon but we still collected thousands of pounds of rock over a few years. Biggest ones had to have weighed a 150+ pounds. Thanks for the memory!

I had a mildly customized 322 ci Buick powered 47 Coupe, and regrettably, in 1963 I had to sell to go back to schul to get edjumacated. That looks like a Holley carburetor with a rectangular bowl like what a lot of Fords had on them in the 60s. They were usually pretty good and the ones that had the clear rectangular bowl on the front were extra cool, since you could look through the glass and see what was going on while it was running and tell if your float level was shutting off at the right height and if your fuel pump is working or not. It looks right at home on that 216.5 “stove bolt Chevy 6”

    hello, Chad and Jolene,
    @Bad Chad , for riviting the Bugatti again, look at a tool MacroMachines made for riviting his ride on YT. he made a little hollow stub on his air chisel, for creating a dome on both ends.
    preventing you from getting a flat spot on one side of the rivettes. and there's no need to think about orientation of the heads, considering drivers-side or not. 👍🏻

      on MacroMachines TH-cam channel.
      Edit: but! seeing the video again, he does create a flat side, BUMMER! but if you got a concave in the weight block ALSO it leaves two domes. thats how I remembered it. LOL only needs some fiddeling on the sizes of different heads and the length of the rivet.

    Sell the fleetline to me. You have quite a collection that's growing. I would just leave the fleetline like it is. Put the exhaust on it so that has good back pressure and don't burn the valves out of it in the cold weather. But it's not like you're driving it everyday either. Have a short piece of tuba six ready maybe two of them and Liam against the rim and hit that with sledgehammer to break the car loose. But if you're just breaking the brakes loose, then crawl underneath and get to the backside and adjust them first. There's many different ways when everybody has their opinion. Your shop turned out really nice. Glad to hear that you're using foam to crawl around on in the shop with your knees. It sneaks up on you and that's a good start. Your cab over creation looks like something from the 40s Futurama show! Or maybe even 1930s Futurama show. They had something like that where they showed the cars of tomorrow. Which of course now would be 60 to 80 years ago their future that was 10 or 15 years ahead of them. Enjoyed seeing your collection or at least this part of it

  • @heathlove8473
    @heathlove8473 ปีที่แล้ว

    Chad
    I have been using shipping containers for years and i have found that if they are kept up off the ground a bit, so that air circulates under them the condensation isn't as bad. the other is to either cut in vents or holes or small windows(that stay open). both ways cut down on condensation. I see your cars in the container garage and you made reference to condensation. I hate when people tell me things to do because i already have 999 things on my list, but i hope this helps you.

    G'day Chad.! with your carby flooding like that, it's a sure sign your needle & seat are sticking. you should have done some tap tap tapping on the bowl of the carby, more often than not, this will free it up.. In saying that, the carby needs completely pulling down, cleaning jets etc, and checking the level of the float when its assembled. No doubt the NEW owner will do all this.? john, Perth, western Australia

    Thats because chad is a dreamer, an a fabricator, an a builder. An in my book, that beats a mechanic any day in my book. You have to be dam good when it comes to making dreams, an visions in your mind come alive. Now days you can get any kind of motor an tranny that just drops in an runs with little to no knowledge. An that makes our builds this day in time very easy. Don't get me wrong. i remember those days of building those old 265,327,350 -- 221,260,289,, 273,318,340,360 an all those awesome big blocks but in todays hot rodding its just so easy to get one an just drop it in an go. Yea, its a but more expensive but what isn't. An the engines today have way better response an power compared to the old school set ups. An I'm a one wire dist, one wire alt, an after markets gauges kind of guy. An we still build them old school hot rods time to time. Just so much easier an faster to go with modern equipment these days. You go Chad !!!!!! 😁👍👍

    Don’t know if you read this. There’s two things you need to start an engine, you need spark, and you also need fuel. Check those two things to start off with. When you flood a car you can sit and hold the carburetor full throttle for five minutes or maybe one or two more. Then turn the key over without pulling the pedal up and keep it down floored until it starts. Once it starts, you’ll have to clear it out. If you have a problem with a sticky carburetor valve or float, it Hass to be taken apart and find out what the problem is.

    Condensation is a killer on cars. Your containers need to breathe. Sad but it needs air movement. Cut 4 holes on the vertical ends. 2 x 4 inch in front and 2 x 4 inch in the back. Make slant roofs over the holes to keep driving rain out.. also silicone window screen over the inside holes to keep bugs out. .. keep works

  • @briquetaverne

    Chad, Just a little Ol' timer's trick when you flood a carburetor. Wait one minute (60 seconds) then press the accelerator to the floor and hold it there. Turn the key and let the car turn a few rev's. Don't release the accelerator back up unless it starts, but if it doesn't, even after you've turned off the key don't release the accelerator. Wait 15 seconds between starting attempts. Turn the car on for a couple of more rev's. If it still doesn't start, don't worry, "just don't release the accelerator", always keeping it floored to the firewall. Try to start it a couple of more times. It should start somewhere in that space in time (especially GM products). If it still doesn't start, remove the air cleaner and literally bow down into the carburetor. Go back to the key and this time you release the accelerator completely and turn the key on without depressing the accelerator. It should kick off, and if it does kick off, DO NOT touch the accelerator unless you hear it starting to stall. Give the car a good 15 seconds of free running before touching the accelerator again. Good luck.

    I know you already know this Chad but some of the viewers may not. If you pull the coil wire out of the center of the cap and hold it up near the valve cover and turn the motor over with the key on you should see it jumping spark. It comes out of the coil to shoot into the top of the rotor to be distributed to the six plugs. You can even stick an old used plug in that end of the coil wire and lay it up against the valve cover or something steel.

    If you installed a vent on each end of the sea container up top near the ceiling you would eliminate the condensation problem. The issue is because it’s not ventilated. You don’t need insulation and it will do nothing if you don’t ventilate the container.

    Collecting a lot of cars should be started at least once a month it's hard to keep fuel down because then the fuel goes bad really just a bunch of car collections are a pain in the ass

    Put "Kool seal" on shipping container ceiling. Knock cobwebs off ceiling, then put the elastomeric white rubber coating (like you would use on the roof) on the ceiling with a spray gun or roll it on. It goes on just like paint. Make sure you have heat in the shop when you put it on. It should stop the sweat

    i cant see in you new building if you have the full range of fire extinguishers at hand , moving these old cars around can develop fuel /gas leaks

    To stop the condensation you simply have to put a simple roof on the containers. Insulating the ceiling inside will definitely not help. It will only be good for storing condensation water in the insulation respectively between.

    I think you should send Aiden to mechanics School. That way you can have your own inhouse mechanic... just a thought, he's a great helper and seems like he learns fast... love the videos keep them coming... Have A Happy New Year... and the best in 2023...

    When you check points you want to watch the points open and close by the distributor. So you turn the engine over with cap off and watch the points to look for spark. Get what I'm saying.
    With the screw driver your just looking for a spark. But you want to know if it Sparks as it spins, is really what you want to look for. I know your new at this.

    I like that little tractor, it's convenient for moving cars. 😎👍
    Cursed dripping condensation, it also happens to me when I put the wood away under the iron sheets...

    Just a tip. If you have gas running from carb. Take a block of wood or hammer handle and tap the float bowl. A lot of times it will break loose inside.

    used if you not sure you getting spark you can take a jumper wire from + on battery and hook other end to the coil and you'll have spark then
