    Great tut. I have been looking for a solid workflow for baking down textures in Blender for months. Been bugging me that I could not convert this part of my 3DS MAX toolset. Thanks!

    Dude, I started the tut, and then opened steam, and the FIRST thing to pop up was the side window of steam with 'the random marketed' game...and it was MOVING OUT. That's the new name for Radical Relocation I assume. So cool. What are the odds! Congrats, I'll check it out. Side note--since your title of the vid specifies, you should have added to the video how to bake out JUST the AO map. I know how to do it, but it should really be in this tut also. Thanks!

    I'm getting just a full black texture, also having albedo on it before, but when i UV Smart Unwrap it's getting all messy..

      I have black texture too; EDIT: apparently I unchecked Diffuse under bake button

    So, what if the AO node does nothing? Like, there's no change in the model at all! I have the same set up as you btw.

  • @polyzen6020
    @polyzen6020 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Excellent method. I have only one question. I tried to follow what you said, but the AO Texture comes very dark. It's normal? Being in an environment with no lights, how do you keep that bright green?

    • @WinglettEntertainment
      @WinglettEntertainment  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question. We used a solid white environment at intensity 1.00. You can also add a little bit of ambient occlusion in the world tab. This will give your bake nice even lighting.

    • @polyzen6020
      @polyzen6020 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WinglettEntertainment I immediately tried and for the ambient occlusion it was enough for me to put an "ambient occliusion" node in the tag-> shader world field. Is this method better or that of the solid? How does it work? thank you so much :)

    hey I did everything you do. but when I connect ImageTexture to BaseColor after Baking, My half of my plane wings are went to black. do you know how can fix it?

    • @TropicalKill3r
      @TropicalKill3r ปีที่แล้ว

      The faces of the object have inverted normals. You can turn on face orientation from the overlays drop-down menu, it will show you the faces with inverted normals in red, you can then select them and invert the normals in edit mode. The second scenario, if you mirrored the wings to avoid modeling them twice, you need to make sure that the mirrored wing is correctly joined to the body of the plane. In edit mode, make sure the points are all joined and not simply overlapping on the same coordinate

    do you have any lights added to the scene when you bake?

    • @thomasluk4319
      @thomasluk4319 ปีที่แล้ว

      might be the diffuse needs to be only color, not direct/indirect light

  • @LaszloIvanyi
    @LaszloIvanyi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So basically after you baked to the new texture you need to export out that to as the base texture for the model, right? the rest can be discarded.

    • @martinvirenfeldt
      @martinvirenfeldt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically yeah. You would have a single "flattened" texture with both the diffuse color and AO information though

    how do you combine the textures???

    • @thomasluk4319
      @thomasluk4319 ปีที่แล้ว

      He already bake out the texture first, which you can see there is a origin image texture before AO. By adding a mixer node and re-bake, the new texture include both diffuse color and AO

      Vincent Do in the UV Editor, go to the drop down arrow and select the baked texture then click image>save. If this doesn’t make sense do a quick google on how to save images in blender

    Nice and easy. But why two UV-sets?

    • @martinvirenfeldt
      @martinvirenfeldt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My guess is the original model is mapped through a different set of texture coordinates. Most likely with overlapping and pixel packed UVs. That first map would not allow for the unique coordinates needed for an AO map

    i too get dark model =c

    • @Bennet2391
      @Bennet2391 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If you are using Blender 2.9 use "diffuse" as bake type. "Combined" takes the lights in you scene into account when baking the texture. If you have no lights, your model will be dark.

    I followed the tutorial perfectly, but it came out too dark (like other commenters). Either something wasn't explained in the tutorial (perhaps world settings, I don't know), but in Blender 2.93.1 this tutorial doesn't work. Try somewhere else. Sorry. :(

    • @TropicalKill3r
      @TropicalKill3r ปีที่แล้ว

      I suggest exporting the map and opening it in Photoshop or some other photo editing software to adjust the transparency, put a white layer underneath so you're able to lighten the dark areas in a reversible way.

  • @lastuvthe
    @lastuvthe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You might want to slow down a tiny bit and explain things a little more. Tutorials that are reduced down to "do this, check that, and your done" are virtually useless to people unless they are simply recreating exactly what you are doing over and over again. You also didn't bother even mentioning which nodes should be selected when you perform bake, etc. Maybe try to explain WHY you are doing certain things, etc. For example, WHY did you leave Alpha checked in your new texture if there is no transparency involved? Things like that....
