This is race 4 from Sydney's Harold Park Paceway.Here we see driver Stephen Ward in the sulky behind Gaelic Uprising as he suffers a heart attack during this event.We also get to see the official stewards footage of the accident.The race-caller is Kevin Thompson.

They are called outriders, they are so important to harness racing. I was in harness racing in Canada driving thousands of races and I have seen hundreds of times they have saved peoples lives and horses lives.

I worked at a harness racing barn and have been around horses for almost 20 years. It looked from th3 video like a jockey. I know how important outriders are.

Terrible accident to see, Stephen was trampled on by several horses and he was very lucky to survive this mishap. Did he do any more driving or decide to call it a day.

Terrible accident but the sportmanship of the other drivers trying to catch the loose horses the outriders couldnt get is hearwarming. Ive been drivers drive with one hand and lead the other horse with the other.

A google check confirms that the driver, Stephen J Ward survived his heart attack. He later died 2012.
