Reminds me of the Australian jumps jockey who fell 32 times in 30 races, never once completing the course, when asked how he managed to fall 32 times he said in his last race he fell, remounted and fell again .... then on the way to hospital in the ambulance it went over a bump, the doors flew open and his stretcher fell on the road. 😜
@@danielhenstock5820 It's said the nurses at the local hospital used to search the jockeys for the meeting in the paper and if he was there they would make a bed up for him.😁
I remember seeing this race at the time as it was one of the rare days that Channel 4 covered racing at the time. It was amazing viewing luckily no horses or jockeys were injured
Remounting should not be allowed! Because, what if a horse gas a hairline fracture? And it seemed fine because the adrenaline rush (it blocks pain) and then break that bone even more because you wanted to finish a simple race. -.-
Well they don’t feel it if they get shot, a welcome relief from the pain they were In after the break, and ask any horse if it wants to stay home, they’d all say no, and watch how many loose horses jump all the jumps after dropping a rider. They have as much fun, maybe more, than the jockeys.
it's not just the horses. if a jockey is injured they might not realise at the time and if they get back on it puts them the horses and the others around them at risk. i don't know much about racing but i event and that has happened to me before.
I am never quite sure why the jumping could be so unsuccessful in this er days, but l remember as a child there seemed to be far more falls than there are now. Nowadays we can go through days of racing with very few falls or unseated riders and sometimes more in the hurdles than the chases.
The reason they banned remounting is horses were being remounted without being checked over. If a horse sustains even a minor injury in a fall then it can be made far worse by being remounted...
@@David.L291 because it's quite hard to stop a horse when you're on the deck and you're not allowed to run out and stop a horse in runnung with the field because it poses a danger to other horses. It was Flodden Field named after the battlefield near Branxton in the borders. I think the reins got caught round his forelegs giving that horrible impression he had broken down. He went on to race again.
This is extremely rare. First time I ever saw it like this. I do remember a few standardbred races in the US where for varying reasons the race because of safety or otherwise was declared a no-contest.
the jockeys FLY over them and make no effort for them to slow and steady up before the jumps so they don't die, they make no effort to fix them they're just desposable for them it's digusting
The jockeys need to get the strides right, just as in show jumping and cross-country, but at a pretty full gallop. Of course, they can do it only with the reins, voice and possibly whip, because they don't have the legs available for aids. If the horse has it figured out, so much the better, and you can often see loose horses jumping very nicely.
@@sharonkorchnak8638 Yes, a lot of it depends on the horse's ability and skill. The immortal Red Rum never fell, dislodging his jockey only once, in some ten years of racing and jumping.

That wasn't a race, it was a meatgrinder. The fact all the horses made it back to the barn was pure luck, certainly not any concern from a jockey, trainer or owner.

I can’t believe the jockey got back on the second faller and galloped if he didn’t intend to continue the race (which he obviously shouldn’t have).
I firmly believe that if Arkle was around at the time of this race & had ran in it, he would have won.
I don't think so, if he was still around he would have been 33 when this race took place.LOL
This was a race Devon Loch would have excelled in
In those days they didn't have cameras that could actually focus.
I couldnt care less about the jockeys - they know the risks. they dont get shot if they break a leg
Neither do many horses injured in races these days. Only if the bone is so shattered that it can't be splinted is euthanasia called for.
