This is a fantastic guide on how to approach nib-grinding. I appreciate how you share a fair amount of practical information as you grind the nib. Thank you for sharing this!
I'm impressed by this whole video. I especially appreciate the close-up videography and how you showed the entire process. Also, I cannot think of any other existing videos or guides to needlepoint nibs.
Thank you for sharing your work with us. I love your videos, the great photography, attention to detail and very intuitive instruction. Fun to watch and the nib looks great (better than the ones they sell us from china) as does your writing session! The thought of One Day grinding a 149 OBBB is so tempting but super nerve wracking 😅 I hope you keep at it … you already have a very good feel for it and maybe one day you will want to experiment with other grinds or your SHAK grind. I’m for the time being stuck on my two favourite grinds, EEF and italics. Enjoy.
Love the detail on instructions and in the videos. I am in the love to grind inexpensive Chinese nibs in stubs and architects stage of learning to grind nibs. I also make knives and use my 30” and 72” belt grinder for the initial grind on my 3000 grit belt, then fine tune with micromesh. I have made jigs to hold my nibs at precisely the angle I want. You have a very steady hand, but without a jig, I have ruined many nibs. How do you determine your line width from the measurements of grinding and why dont more nib grinders use jigs for precise angles. I cringe watching nib grinders use dremel diamond wheels for the initial grind, but they nail it.
Great video, unfortunately the sound vanished from 09:20. Showing the tools you are using and how you are using them is another big help for me. Thanks
@@Shak-MD Yes, there is a big difference when the second part was recorded. Not sure what triggered it, but the large part is muffled to nearly inaudibble. Increasing the volume of my computer (not youtube) to 100 (Win 11) sounds becomes more audible but still muffled. Don't understand, if it's only my computer, others should have the same experience. Maybe something happened during upload, a YT flaw?
Thanks. I used Sony alpha 7 R 5 with sony 90 mm f 2.8 Macro lense. I was tempted to use the 2.5-5x Laowa macro lense, but found it unworkable due to how close it needed to be to the subject.
Thank you for the presentation and sharing your grinding technique. I too like very fine lines and use a zebra g when I get the urge and also ef nibs. I recently ordered a platinum president with a uef nib. I am hoping it will write a very fine line. Have you tried that nib? Again, thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Thanks..I do have 3776 in uef. Very fine, but also a nail. President I have in EF. I like them both....but Geometrically, I prefer my own work....[not biased at all...lol]. I should give away a few of my grinds.
@@Shak-MDI would love to have a chance to write with one of your grinds! When I first started collecting seriously I preferred fine lines, still do for actual writing really. However, my love of ink necessitated the use of wider line sizes. Your very fine grinds look spectacular and oh so precise :-)
Amazing video, I would like to get such a grinding wheel like the one you have, can you please give me the instragram of the seller so I can buy from him once he has the new version? :)
Many thanks for the incredible video. Superb close up shots! Thank you also for your long injury prevention message - very important. Best
Thank you! Thanks for watching.
Some good advice there! Especially about the aerosol risks... Very nice work Doctor!!

Thank you!
Very nice work! Thanks. I want to start grinding my own nibs.
Do it 😀 get some Jinhao nibs and get at it.
@@Shak-MD I have some, I just need a good Dremel or grinder.
@robertcalkjr.8325 A dremel and those polishing clots should do the trick... and respiratory/ eye protection.

Wow, the nib is very similar to a stacked nib.❤
Thanks!

@FountainPenWorld-z4i Not sure. I find it sounds best on smartphone.
@@Shak-MD Yes, you're right, on my phone and tablet (Android) the sound is audible/ It seems to be Windows.
Excellent video. Thank you. May I ask what macro lens and what camera/phone you used for filming this video?
