AHHH! I definitely do not miss grad school. I also studied social work. I am currently working as a child welfare social worker. Keep at it! We need you!
I am so glad that I came across your channel! I work full time, I am a mom and I am planning on starting school in August for my MSW(part time). I think my biggest fear is managing the readings and school.
I absolutely love your vlogs bc I feel like I can relate on such a deep level lmao. love hearing about your msw classes!! I totally get you on the mental toughness of working plus school work especially when the classload is so heavy. the dark hair looks so great!!!!
I know this is an older vlog, but I recently came across your channel and the way you schedule and organzie your day is so inspiring. Your style is so cute, do you mind if I ask where you found that Deftones shirt?
Hi Carolyn, I am a BSW student entering my senior year (Thank God)! I am curious on what a course load with a concentration on administration and community practice look. My concentration use to be urban families, children, and youth but I’m migrating toward macro social work.
hello :) congrats on your achievements as a senior in your BSW program! the course load for macro includes: macro assessment, practice with organizations, practice with communities, policy analysis and development, and social work with diverse populations. hope this helps! :)
Hi Carolyn! I love your videos. Would you have any tips for students who struggle with all of the reading involved with BSW/MSW? I have heard of some folks scanning their books and getting an e-reader. What are your thoughts on how to get a handle on all of this material? Thank you!
Hi Sara, thanks for watching! I would definitely recommend setting a reading schedule and reading goals planner! When I have articles and chapters to read, I typically plan out how I will divide the readings on the days of the week so that I don’t get overwhelmed reading so much at once! Setting goals is so important and feels so rewarding when you accomplish your readings. Hope this helps! 🤍
hi! what a coincidence, I searched up 'masters in social work' to prep myself for my first semester and i found your video! I also reside in the valley, love horror movies, and go to utrgv :) loved your video!
hi there, woah that’s super cool!! so freaking sweet that you love horror movies, too. if you ever have any questions about the utrgv MSSW program, please don’t hesitate to ask! :) nice to meet you, and best of luck on your grad school journey!✨
@@carolynnicolev thank you! I actually do have several questions about the general class settings, professors, and workload it would be so nice to get some reassurance/clarification on that
@@mostlydebs8277 for sure, i’d love to help! if you’d want to connect easier you can instagram dm me or shoot me an email at carolynnicolesw@gmail.com :)
HI! I will be starting as an MSW student soon watching these is so helpful. Where did you get that laptop stand I need one for all this computer work I will need to do !
That’s so great thank you, and congrats!! I got my laptop stand on amazon and just linked it in my description, but unfortunately it’s not available now but there’s a lot of very similar ones!
@@shanny7715 yes i'm a full-time student! and i highly recommend only working part-time while attending school. i use my google planner RELIGIOUSLY to time block my job and school work throughout the day. i feel like this definitely helps me with time management!
@@carolynnicolev Yes I agree. MSW is a large time commitment between field placement, class time, and studying. I am currently trying to consider whether to attend a full or part-time program because I want to work while I am in school
im going to school for clinical mental health counseling and admire your passion! are you also working while in school? im starting a full-time job while starting grad school amd i'm nervous about the courseload. the job has tuition assistance and it's a fun job, so that's why i took it.
hi, and thank you so much! i worked part-time for the majority of my time in grad school with the exception of the semesters of my practicum. a full-time job will be challenging, but time management is key and makes it totally doable! the tuition assistance is amazing, and I definitely think it’s more than possible for you! I would highly recommend having a planner/google calendar that can map out all of your shifts/courses/homework so that you can visualize when to read/work on hw. that helped me a lot while I was working!! hope this helps :)✨
i would definitely recommend finding what level of social work you want to focus on during your course work! whether that be macro, mezzo, or micro that interests you the most. although all classes are beneficial at any level, it's definitely a great idea to pick up the most useful tools and learning for your career specific to your field! also, try not to slack off with readings because they can definitely be overwhelming! i like to schedule out my readings throughout the week so i don't get burned out all at once. hope this helps! :)
thank you so much and congrats!! the best piece of advice i could give is try to avoid procrastinating, and try to space out your readings and homework assignments throughout a week/2 weeks so that it’s not overwhelming if they’re all due around the same time! i started doing that in grad school and it helped decrease my stress levels TREMENDOUSLY. best of luck on your BSW! ✨
OMG that’s incredible! i love when dog’s have such human names :,) and i believe he might be part dachshund. he’s a mix of all sorts of breeds, but we typically just say he’s a miniature pinscher :)
