FILM DESCRIPTION:
When Austria's crown prince is found dead, evidence seems to point to suicide. However, detective Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) deduces that the prince was murdered and that the crime is but a piece of a puzzle designed by an evil genius named Moriarty (Jared Harris). Holmes and his friend Dr. Watson (Jude Law), who are accompanied by a Gypsy (Noomi Rapace) whose life Holmes saved, chase Moriarty across Europe in the hope that they can thwart his plot before it can come to fruition.

Still love the fact that this movie didn't take the usual route and say "He's most likely still alive, but who knows" and instead said "If he's alive, of course he is. He's right there"
Most people who read Doyle's knew he will probably survive so it was better to make ending interesting than usual suspense.
@@Petaurista13 i heard that Arthur Conan Doyle did kill Sherlock with Moriarty but the readers were outraged by that so he was pressured to bring him back.
It wouldve been better to leave the reveal for the sequel. Thats how the story goes in the books. Youre led to think Holmes & Moriarty died, then later on in the following story, Holmes emerges though still in hiding from one of Moriarty's people. And so, Holmes & Watson have to rig a trap all the while making sure no-one else knows Holmes survives before legally resurrecting him. The way this ending handles it ruins a perfectly good surprise for those who haven't read the stories & for those who know what happens, just makes it anticlimactic.
Yeah, this is the Victorian England equivalent of “damn the official story… I am Iron Man.” that we’ve become so accustomed to seeing with RDJ.
It’s refreshing. Because audiences know he isn’t dead. So why beat around the bush.

Yes, it was refreshing to see that happening in BBC Sherlock but I don't think they'll do it in SH3, because this Holmes told his Watson that he was alive like, a week after his funeral and Sherlock made John believe he was dead for two years.
Sherlock would have explained it as "ex-Colonel Moran was still alive, and undoubtedly knew some of Moriarty's personnel. I had to track them down and deal with them so they wouldn't come after you two. It was difficult, but I made sure I got them all"
I figured Watson would punch Holmes on his face then say:
“I believed you were dead, But then again you are Holmes and your body never was Recovered.”
There won't be a third film.

That’s what friends do.
You cannot give Jude Law enough credit for this performance. You can hear the despair and heartbreak in his voice. The voice of a mourning man on the brink of tears. Amazingly portrayed.
I'm always impressed with how well his face shows his thoughts and feelings after watching him go over the edge. Such a complex array of feelings and he portrays them without a single word.
then to follow it up with that inquisitive and hopeful look where he looks like he is fighting off a smile was fantastic.

I mean, he already suspects, nay, KNOWS Holmes is alive thanks to the breathing apparatus, given the questions he starts asking of Mary. His question is more likely "how the hell did he get in here?"
I love that, as usual, Watson immediately figures out the what, but not the exact why. It's so in line with Doyles original stories, where Watson is shown as no less well learned or intelligent than Sherlock, but simply lacking the bizarre and unusual way that his heroin addict genius partner ingests and interprets the world around him, in its most miniscule and bizarre details

In the first movie, Holmes took up various disguises as different people. Here, it's more of inanimate objects.
Holmes actually spoke about developing a form of "urban camouflage" earlier in the film, and this is him utilizing it!

After subjecting myself to Enola Holmes 2, I once again feel nothing but pain that we still haven't gotten a third installment.
Ritchie was a perfect director, Downey Jr was a perfect Sherlock, and Law was perfect as Watson.

I have faith in Dexter Fletcher as the director, all I hope is that the next movie will have a script on par with the two movies we had from Richie.

I’m not sure cinematography or editing for this particular franchise is going to be up to par. Even if the plot is great and even if the dialogue still keeps that chemistry between each character, without Ritchie’s style I just don’t think it’ll be as enjoyable or immersive as the first two. But Dexter Fletcher has my prayers that he won’t disappoint.
Hearing those little keys/tones from the fight with Moriarty play when we see the breathing device was such a nice touch
Watched this for the first time today. Still get goosebumps when that theme song comes on.
And "The End?" was absolutely perfect.
Just isn't the same without the credits slamming that awesome score at the end just after. But hot damn isn't that an awesome ending.

I really love the way this movie present important details seems normal in very ridiculous circumstances (the oxygen supplying device, note book and camo suit) and not to make them obvious and bold (it’s never like: hey! These are keys, mind them). Later, those details cleverly brought back to become the demonstration which truly amaze us
As Holmes said, "Minor details are often the most important."
This is probably the only movie series in history where I've ever hoped against all hope for a third film.
Their tandem is the Best ! there could be no better Sherlock Holmes as RDJ and Watson as Jude Law... Same goes to Mary and Irene...

Great ending. Still don't understand how Holmes made it to the sofa in the first place... Also Watson or Mary both should have been able to notice him because they were changing their point of view whereas the camera was fixed...
I like how they stated that both of their bodies were not found. Which means there is a chance to get Moriarty back into the game. I think this franchise can squeeze in 2 more movies easily. One movie should be with Jack the Ripper and the return of Sherlock and the next one should be Moriarty’s revenge and him truly playing this game of life and death with Sherlock all for the sake of destroying him and not just for protecting his wealth.
I feel Holmes would have made sure Moriarty was dead. He plans on staying "dead" himself, so he can't risk the life of his BFF by sloppily not confirming the kill.
I would honestly be much happier if they stuck to the books on this one, where Moriarty actually did die and the last story is Sherlock and Watson dealing with Moriarty's Watson, Sebastian Moran.

I'd honestly rather not... just because a villain or a certain character is very good, doesn't mean they should come back. That kind of trope is annoying and old already, I'd actually prefer that Moriarty died
@@isaka6361 I disagree I think moriarty story ended a bit too early. Maybe if brought back in a right way would make the character more interesting and give him an even better compelling ending.

Rdj, the guy that plays Sherlock holmes didn't have the time for part 3 because hes the guy that plays iron man and he was busy with the marvel stuff. Now that iron man is dead, hes working on Sherlock Holmes 3. It releases December 2021 but it might be delayed cuz covid

I can’t imagine that it’s been 11 years since I saw this one in the cinema. Finished a school, got BSc, changed 2 countries, married, my daughter is six now, but still no third part. Still waiting. These 2 movies are an absolute gold of Sherlock interpretation, especially after miserable end of BBC’s one.

Nah, i think he didn't have a plan because he was screaming like crazy when they were falling.
Sherlock was calm because he knew what he was doing but it was a shock for Moriarty.

There's a graphic novel called "Sherlock Holmes and the Barcelona conspiracy" where he travels to Spain and has to defeat Moriarty's brother. I've always thought it would make an amazing movie that would brilliantly complete this as a trilogy.

For those who don't know, sherlock holmes should have died in that movie, as in his last original book. Only at the time Conan Doyle already wanted him to die "sherlock holmes was not his only book, in fact he hated it because people only knew him for him" , but fans threatened him so he made him survive. Correct me if I'm wrong.

When I first watch the movie I always thought if Sherlock Holmes survived Professor Moriarty certainly did
Holmes had the oxygen supply. Moriarty didnt
And on the scene before this, you could see Holmes kick Moriarty into a rougher part of the waterfall, which I would assume would be a harder fall.
I love how everyone that's alive and knows Sherlock we've seen from this and the previous movies (almost, with out Sherlock of course, though maybe he was that dude with the big mustache-sideburn thing) are present, even that one jailmate who enjoyed his jokes
The amount of detail through these films is supernatural
Maybe I read Mycroft wrong, but he looks depressed to a lighter tone for a moment before talking to Mary, probably indicating he knew Sherlock was alive and helped him survive
of course he didn't tell anyone and I probably read it wrong, but he definetly helped Sherlock after he fell, due to the waterfall being icecold and how Sherlock had that airtank, likely indicating they planned this before hand
A full decade later.....still waiting to see the "end"
I can’t help but think of when I saw this movie in the theater (first movie I ever saw a second time in theaters too) and the moment I saw he was alive (which I’d figured out already before then), the moment Holmes went up to the typewriter I knew EXACTLY what he was going to do. Then when he did, I laughed and applauded.
if they put these movies in theaters, i would love to watch it. I never got to see them in theaters, just at home on a TV.
In the books, the reason Holmes faked his death is because while he had taken MORIARTY down, his organization was still around, and out for his blood if he lived. And they had no qualms with hurting people around him to get to him.
So he let them think he died, too, to protect his brother and best friend.
This of course, necessitated letting everyone think he died. But he began work from the shadows immediately to collapse the remains of Moriarty's crew, with no games and all seriousness, and bent all his intellect and mystery into doing so as efficiently as possible.
As soon as he was set up to destroy the gang for good, he wasted no time and revealed his survival to Watson first and foremost because he wouldn't let his friend grieve a moment longer than necessary.
2:27 kinda reminds me of Johnny English Strikes Again (when he was demonstrating Camouflage to the class)
Maddening that despite the succes of the first two movies, there's STILL no Sherlock Holmes 3.
If I recall, Doyle killed off Holmes because he was tired of writing it but his audience wanted more and he needed to pay the bills.
