  • In this video I show how to create shimmer with alcohol ink and mica powder. I use alcohol ink on Yupo paper in this alcohol ink painting. This tutorial is easy to follow and ideal for beginners using alcohol inks. I will use this picture in later videos to show how I mount Yupo paper to foam board, then cut the picture down to make a more ideal size.
Thank you for watching, I provide tips and tricks throughout the whole video, so please watch to the end to benefit from them all. Leave a comment or any questions. I got the Grafix paper on Amazon US site. They don’t have it on the UK site? It was hard to find-maybe you just missed it?
I loved the idea of brushing the mica powders on the Yupo paper! I would never have thought to do that! I like the effect it gives better than the effect using the TimHoltz pearlized alcohol inks! And I’m with you on the metallic mixatives, they just don’t move around the way I hope they would. Thanks for all your great ideas and experiments!

Steve, it’s me again, I really apologize I made a mistake, that NARA synthetic paper it wasn’t at the UK Amazon website, I was still on my US site, sorry. It’s a wonderful paper comes in 2 thicknesses , I believe it’s from India, they have a website narasyntheticpaper.com So,maybe you can find it there or order it from the US? I wanted to ask you do you dilute all the Pinata inks,or just some? I also use Ranger, some of them are very pigmented too. Can you tell me what proportions you use? I know Myriam has a video about, but I have to find it,also if you ask her questions she’s usually really busy, but yes, she’s the queen around here for many mediums. Also what I am not clear,do you dilute only what you use once,or make more and just store it in those tiny bottles for future? Thank you 🙏 and see you soon here. 😊

Steve, hello! I just found your channel and I really enjoy your work and this technique with the mica is excellent. Now I already saw someone recommended Joggles.com to you for the Grafix Opaque Plastic, I’m sure they ship to UK, although probably the shipping is not cheap. It’s a wonderful substrate,I don’t even use Yupo anymore. The Grafix is heat resistant and doesn’t stain. I also discovered on Amazon a new paper/plastic called NARA, it comes in 6” round and then 9 x12 and 12 x12. I just checked the UK Amazon, they have it,it’s very reasonably priced. I also heard you say you want a dryer with a cold setting( btw I have one the same you do) it’s by Revlon, I couldn’t find it on the UK Amazon, I will try to include the link here for the US Amazon. www.amazon.com/Revlon-Styling-Brush-Soft-Curls/dp/B000PXYAL2 . The only thing I heard that it blows harder than the Connair. I hope that helps. Hope o see more videos😊

The mica always rubs right off, taking some of the inks with it?? I’m so frustrated because it does make gorgeous effects but the slightest contact with anything and half the painting is gone. No time to even seal it. 😕😕😕

And thank you for your video!! It is the first one I’ve found that deals with the pigment powder and alcohol. Love your color choices! 🥰
