I was six and lived in FarmVille. No flooding but it sure seemed to rain forever. I remember looking out the window and wondering if it would ever stop raining. And I remember going to see our church and we lost EVERYTHING. A soda machine from the back had floated all the way to the front. It was truly sad and just a time of uncertainty. And as a little girl very scary for me. I wouldn’t go inside after watching my dad and other guys have to force that door open.
I was in bethel when this happen, I was 5 years old riding on a little boat with my sister, my dad and uncle dragged the boat all the way to my aunts in Greenville
Glad most of the hogs were saved; I think some of the Smithfield hogs during Hurricane Florence in 2018 didn’t make it :(. The elderly from the coastal Nc area told me that Florence was nothing compared to Floyd and Hazel.
Nope we weren't better prepared there was this place outside of Wallace called river landing it's a very rich gated community built it right next to the river after Floyd 🤦
As Debbie comes up the coast and we could very easily see this again, my 1st thoughts are for all who suffer from natural disasters. My second thought is the amount of money we have spent and are currently spending on housing/feeding/ free medical for illegal immigrants. That $ could/ should be spent to help solve our existing and future problems. Sorry, for the political comment. But, as my small house I rent is getting ready to flood as they say it has in the past I watch the latino crews I compete against driving the new trucks and leaving food stores with shopping cats full of food. I wonder what the women who wanted to stay in her home town, is driving or how much food she can afford. I know the town, they get hit very hard. Did bless all in low-lying areas.

Everyone thought this would be the worst it could get. Right? Wait until 6 years later and it would get much MUCH worse.

I sure haven't forgotten it yet...
I was 8 years old and me and my two sisters were driven to Columbia to stay at our aunt's apartment.
It's only been 25 years since the next 500 year flood on the West side of North Carolina. Hurricane Helene.
