I remember Isabel, and nothing could have prepared anyone for what it would. We had such fierce powerful wind, torrential rain, flooding, and the pure darkness during and after the storm. Pure darkness because we had no power. There were deaths too. The area would take years to recover from it. Even today, there are scars from it. I will never forget Isabel.

Bull Island Va was inundated. I stood in the middle of Little Florida Road and watched the bay advance rapidly toward me from the East ( from the NW branch of the Back River)- it stopped only a few houses from my parents house. Most of the city was flooded and debris was piled on the roadsides for months afterward. Now all the homes in the lower areas are sitting way up high- some are now taller than wide

@@timmillan6701 i was only 4 at the time, my parents house has a fantastic view of Bennet creek near the old Bubba's resturant. I had never seen water overtake our bulkhead and haven't seen it completely submerged since. We had feet in our yard. It was like our home had just become part of the bay. We had few trees to begin with and none fell but I remember my dad hoping in a boat with the other neighborhood dads and ride down Rens Road, taking out mailboxes and just being in awe of the water.

I lived in Powhatan, Va.(30miles west of Richmond,Va. 25 min ride) when Isabel hit. It was a small garage party. We watched trees get bent 90° as we did Tequila shots. I remember hearing trees snap before I passed out. I worked 2 jobs in Richmond, Va. The next day, Friday, was payday. It took me 2hrs to get there bc I had to keep backtracking bc of downed trees.
My power was out for a week. I went from friend to friend sleeping on couches. I had a cooler with 5lbs of hamburger, I gave most away. The 1st night back home I had no food except for some thawed out hamburger. I cooked it well well done. I spent the next week in the hospital. I learned a few lessons that week. Best one is don't eat beef that has been frozen, thawed, & then frozen/thawed again.😥😝

I was inland in Virginia in my semi when the Cat 2 came in. It downed a lot of trees and dumped a lot of rain.
