Good decision to fix silicon.. A thought, if I might share. Razor blades used to carefully cut out the silicon and thoroughly clean with denatured alcohol. Then you have good surface for new silicon to adhere to. However, as you stated, you added silicon to the bottom seals. Now is the perfect time to redo all of the silicon.. All seams.. I have done complete reseal jobs and partial reseal jobs. The new silicon hasnt caused me any problems, when applied to clean glass, and a fine edge of older silicon.. However I dont know how long it will last that way and I always looked back and thought, I shouldve done a full reseal. So, Im just throwing the thought, why not take all seals out and do a full job ? Youll be happy you did .. You share good stuff. Thanks
So after making this video I took a razor blade to those two front seems, cut away the silicone that was wearing away, and redid them with a thick bead of silicone. I cleaned the glass thoroughly and wiped it down with 99% alcohol for a good bond. 🤞🤞 I’ve been thinking about ripping out this Aquadecor background on this tank…..getting tired of it, not a fan of the stained on algae, and takes up a ton of swimming room.
Yeah I agree be cautious with the Marineland tanks. I've got a 75G dated 2018 and the front two silicone joints stared to flake off in the same way that 300G has. Drained down & replaced with 75G Aquen over the holidays. Wife wasn't taking any chances. I also have a 65G Aquen (bought used) dated 2016 and is in better shape. For now the Marineland will sit in storage until re-sealed. Thanks for sharing man 😎
Just a question, looking at doing same size tank but I’ve got a basement underneath where I want the tank. Did you re-Inforce the floor for the weigh or this tank isn’t over your basement? I’ve got a structural engineer lined up to have a look at the floor to see what’s needed, just interested to see what you did
Funny you ask because I am making a video on this now and will post it tonight or tomorrow. I have had multiple people ask me this same question. This tank is over my basement and I heavily reinforced the floor below the tank. It doubles as a closet down there. Keep an eye out for the vid by tomorrow.
Oddly no. Marineland used a different silicone on the corners than they did on the bottom. The corners are done with black silicone as seen in the vid. This black silicone as seen in the video has deteriorated away to the point that I must redo them already….3 years later. The rest of the silicone elsewhere is clear silicone and in perfect shape. From what I’m told, this black silicone they used around this time period was a “bad batch”, and has caused some of these deep dimension tanks to leak. All seems but these front two appear to be good
So I was wondering, why did you end up taking out the clarisea filter rollers? I was going to get some cuz I saw your vid but now I’m not sure if I should cuz you took them out lol. Can you tell me about your experience and should I just stick with socks?
Thank you for bringing this up, something I have been meaning to make a video on but has fallen by the wayside. The roller filters were removed from this system for a few reasons really. Up until the video I made on them they seemed to work pretty well and I was happy with them for the most part. After running them about 6 months or so they seemed to become finicky. During the day......and MIDDLE of the night the alarms on them would start going off indicating a jammed roll. No matter HOW many times I took them apart and realigned the roll....meticulously....they would go back to this same nuisance alarm and issue. They became more of a hassle on a daily basis than anything else. The other big drawback I had on this setup in particular is I had to turn my flow down big time or they would simply overflow and not be able to keep up. I feel that they would be suited ....better on a smaller size tank...say 90 gallons MAX. I still have them and am contemplating selling them since I am going with all larger tanks now. In the end, it turned out to be way more frustration and hassle than it was worth. The other thing I was not impressed with is the quality of some of the parts such as the nylon screwed, mounting brackets, etc. In my opinion These units should be half the price they are, and even at that I would question their value. Hope this helps.
Appreciate your insight. After hearing your experience with them, I’ll probably hold off in getting them. Turning down the flow, alarms ringing…. I’ll just stick with socks lol. Well I look forward in seeing your future videos! Thank you for replying.
It's only certain strains of Discus that show the peppering. Usually Pigeon Bloods, Checkerboards etc. Normally caused by dark substrates.

👏👏👏 great idea and looking forward. Keep safe stay well.✌️

dang that Cichlid tank was sick, sad to see you change it up
The 750 gallon tank in the basement will be the new cichlid tank 😁…..along with the 210 now
Hi good decision on redoing the seals. You mentioned about modifying the overflow pipes. What all changes did you make to the overflow?
Surely if the silicone on the front panels have deteriated then the rear ones have too?

How’s it going nice setup. What did you use to black out the sides where the 3d background is. So you can’t see behind it.
Those are my corner overflow boxes.
That being said, I bought a roll of 20% tint, cut it to exact size, and applied it to the glass

can you do more background videos on how to build them?
Will soon
Do you have an Instagram page?
I do but it has been neglected and I’m going to start getting back into posting on there now actually…especially with the new projects coming
