First off, Hazey, thank you. After watching literally thousands of hiking and wild camping videos yours are the only ones I still get excited about when I see a notification. And it's all down to you being your authentic self on-screen.
On a more nerdy note, down quilts are brilliant, a genuine game changer...
    - yes, they weigh less.
    - yes, they are more comfortable, especially if you're a big owd lad, and a side-sleeper (like me).
"But you still haven't told me why they're better than an unzipped sleeping bag," you say. Well hold your horses, Hazey, me old fruit, I'm getting to that, and it's a surprisingly simple answer.
    Pad straps.
A light, down quilt will have a tendency to waft all over the shop if not strapped to a pad, which is fine on those warmer nights, but not so good when you're trying to keep the heat in. Pad straps make the quilt and sleeping pad one deliciously comfortable unit. Wriggle around all you want, the quilt will stay covering you, but if you're feeling a bit warm then you can still peel back a corner, or pop a leg out (not to mention pop the old chap out, if you need a night-time tinkle).
It sounds too simple to be true, but one of the quilts I have is a Mountain Equipment Helium Quilt, and it's warm, light, filled with very high quality down, and packs down to nothing. It's also absolutely useless, for 2 reasons:
    - the down isn't hydrophobically treated, and it turns to a soggy mush if you get any condensation in the tent. I'd treat it myself, but it's not worth doing, because it wouldn't change the biggest problem, which is...
    - it has no way to fix it to a sleeping pad, and you soon miss all the advantages of being able to do that. So much so that my cheapo Ice Flame quilt gets regular use, but the ME Helium quilt stays in its lofting bag.

I've got one of therm-a-rest's corus quilts and I really rate it! Less claustrophobic, no zips to deal with and infinitely better than a bag if you're hammock camping. The down squashed underneath you is practically useless anyway so it's just a waste of weight. I'd say get one and see cos you'll definitely end up using it in the hammock even if you decide you prefer bags for ground camping

Hazelnut, fyi, quilts were invented by some Norwegians, who went out and stole the underpants off some ducks called Ida, and made them into togs. Sleeping bags were invented by Glaswegians to take to football matches up t norf, and were originally snorkel parkers.

I think a few people on the Coast to Coast get lost after Black Sails YHA. They keep following the path straight ahead, when they should turn off to the left. Easy to miss in good weather, never mind in fog.

Another fantastic series good sir. I’ve meant to comment; but I have had to do more radiation treatments for this damn brain tumor that I have been fighting since 2010. On the bright side, the 15 hour craniotomy, done in March, finally got rid of the bugger I’ve fought since the beginning, the radiation is needed to eliminate its younger brother. Cheers Haze, your videos have always cheered me up. 🤙

I have rab assent 700 and a thermarest 3 season down quilt. Basically just summer use for quilt, much lighter and cooler. But i have to use sleep bag as a quilt anyway because the zip broke 2 Yr ago 😂 zip acts as a weight aswell so if you turn over in night it the quilt doesn't ride up your back.
