We review the Nelo Viper 46 Surfski - full review here: nelous.com/blogs/nelo-usa-wes... The nelo Viper 46 surfski is a fantastic hybrid between the popular Viper 46 K1 and a surfski. Music: Bensound.com
Hi Daniel - surfskis are designed for open ocean paddling, in any types of conditions - from flat water to wild seas! K1's are designed for flatwater, and not the ocean.
A few years ago a friend of mine paddled an Olympic K1 in the Blackburn Challenge - an offshore race around Cape Ann, in Massachusetts. He said it was like a submarine in even small ocean waves - not enough flotation due to low volume. Also, not really safe without bulkheads to restrict the amount of water that enters the boat during an out-of-boat capsize, so the whole boat fills up.
@@davidGrainger Depends on the K1 - we race "normal" K1's down rivers in South Africa. They handle fine :) This Vipe 46 surfski is more of a surfski than a K, and handles surf up to around 4ft.
@@nelousa120 Yeah, but we're not all screamin' crazies! the first 20 seconds of this video kinda proves my point th-cam.com/video/22VDAyawlFw/w-d-xo.html

Could a K1 be used as a surf ski?
