We've seen a lot of complaints of people cracking the glass when following this tutorial. This can happen when you apply pressure directly to the glass rather than the plastic bracket on the back of the glass.
As others have said, you can also simply pull the mirror caps off. By pulling from the inside of the mirror cap, it should pop off with the correct amount of pressure. HOWEVER, following this method, you will very likely break the clips on the original mirror caps - which why we do not recommend it.

Just followed this tutorial on an F87 and worked like a charm. Trickiest part is removing the mirror, but applying pressure more to the back and not the edge does the job. It's like pulling teeth though.

I removed the mirror glass on my M easily enough with a flexible plastic tool following these guidelines, yet the two metal tab clips are not releasing the cap.

Do NOT need to remove the mirrors. Just pull HARD and STRAIGHT, it'll pull out. Takes 2 minutes to replace mirror caps.

Nope have don't it to several f-series cars. It doesn't break the clips at all.

Louis yep. I have a M235i. Replaced mirror caps on mine twice (one was faulty), and my mate's M135i. Both just pull.
