It sounds like you're talking about the Buster Sword in Remake not the OG. As iconic as it is in the original, you're going to switch it out for an upgrade. In Remake it's a fantastic balanced weapon that allows you to deal physical and magical damage. And that remains true in Rebirth.
@@viix3815 Yes and no. In both games, the Buster Sword is a balanced weapon. Being a good weapon for being able to deal good physical and magical damage. There are differences in both games, so I'll give you a quick explanation. In Remake, the Buster Sword is the second-best physical damage and third best magical damage weapon. It also has a decent buff to physical and magical defense and large buffs to HP and MP and a small MP Regen. It lacks many passive skills like Reprieve (Survive a deadly blow with 1 HP) or MP cost reduction. If you want Cloud as pure physical or magical damage, there are better weapon. And some other weaker weapons that have more passive buffs or even more materia slots. In Rebirth, they changed the weapon upgrade system to be less personal and simpler. Effective the weapons get predetermined upgrades to stats and materia slot, but also have skills you can equip. The Buster Sword is still a very balanced weapon in stats but also several buffs to chose from. While some weapons have buffs to counter damage or critical chance/damage, the Buster Sword mostly has Weapon Skill Damage, HP/MP +, and even Reprieve (but there's like 10 skills that be unlocked so there are a lot of options). There are still better weapons for physical/magical damage and some have skills that can change how you build, but as Cloud also has his own skill tree, he can innately have some and generally use the weapons as additional buffs. There a lot of weapons in Rebirth and each weapon has so many passive skills to equip that you can seriously alter your build.
Indeed, the mining laser in Starfield is more "secretly" overpowered. Once you max out the appropriate skill it stacks fire damage over time effects like mad.
Zap 'em and whack 'em, the ol' one-two punch. Gotta love the wrench in the first Bioshock, it could turn you into an unstoppable dervish of destruction with the right build.
I will never not bring up the kick attack from Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, which is unblockable and the ideal way to set up many of the game's famous environmental kills. The Dying Night from Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the best pistols in the game, especially once you know how to exploit Ricochet. Ditto the Short Circuit hack, which you get even earlier. The mage's starting weapon in HEXEN has unlimited ammo and pinpoint accuracy even at long ranges, making it essentially a sniper weapon. Ditto the pistol in Dark Forces. The Backbiter dagger, found in the first level of Legend of Grimrock II, is one of the best dex weapons in the game, and especially useful on a one-character run, due to its ability to drain life from enemies to restore your health. The pistol in the original Unreal could kill the final boss in two hits, if fully upgraded. This one got patched, though.
I'm Remnant 2, the starting primary for the medic archetype. Bonesaw can absolutely carry you through the whole campaign, which is wild for a class that's supposed to be a support.
In Tokyo RPG Factory’s third and last game Oninaki … the first Deamon you start with is the ONLY one you ever need! … high defence, high attack and fast
i don't mean to pick at nits, but I do feel compelled to point out that the weapon shown in #10 is technically not the (9mm) pistol you start the game with, it is actually the stealth pistol that you acquire later.
Does Pokemon count? Normally most casual players would just over-buff their starters and finish the adventure almost one-shotting everything with it in the end while having the rest of the team severely under-leveled in comparison XD
The Onimaru in The Granstream Saga. It's hidden near the start of the game but if you know how to find it, it's got the highest attack stat of any weapon in the game.
‘Usually, you start out with weak equipment…’ Elden Ring’s Samurai starting class: “Am I a joke to you?!?” 😂 As for why Bloodborne’s Hunter Axe is so good: Spin to Win (That Hyper Armor is OP).
Several games have you start with awesome gear to give you a taste of power and then take it away from you. Examples are Metroid Prime, Heart of Darkness, and Symphony of the Night.
@@Pixeleyes and you can get a legendary weapon drop stupidly early in a borderlands game if you're really lucky, IIRC any enemy had a 1 in 10k odds so theoretically the first enemy you kill could give you a game-breaking weapon. But it's still not the weapon you start with. Resident Evil 2, you get the shotgun/bowgun inside of a minute but your starting weapon is still the pistol. It might be pedantic, but a starter weapon is still different from an early-game weapon.
The wrench in Bioehock is good, but the drill in BS2 and skyhook in BSI are even better. ❤❤❤ The skyhook is pretty much essential since BSI removed manual saves. 😅😢
Love the Hunter’s Axe, feels like it doesn’t get the love it deserves since the Saw Blade is the weapon of choice for no-hit and speed runners (at least the ones that I have watched)
Goldeneye 007 - PP7 pistol outrank almost every other gun in terms of damage per shot and most guns in terms of effective range. Paired with it's clip size it becomes one of the best guns in the game. Poison Control - Poisonette isn't all that when you start with her, but upgraded to max she becomes one of your most versatile "shots" in the game.
In the game popolocrois Pietros dragon sword literally grows alongside him even getting scripted powerups. Sure a new sword may replace it for a bit but the dragon sword will get strong enough to make that sword junk.
Lol, the bioShock wrench. The first time I ever played the game on X-box I totally went through the entire game almost exclusively using it save a few occasions I think you HAD to use ranged stuff.
On this subject the bow and arrow in the Tomb Raider remakes doesn’t get mentioned enough. I used it basically the whole way through the first game and had a blast with it.
Some of these options seem...eeh? Like...yeah, you're talking about starting weapons that are secretly overpowered but some of them don't really get overpowered until you've finished upgrading them which by that point, you're near the end of the game. So...that sorta makes them fall into the usual trope of "starting with weak gear but progresses to better gear as you progress". I figured this list would be more or less weapons that are pretty OP from the start...not will become OP by the end of the game. But I digress. Still a good video. Knew the Cutter from Dead Space would be up here.
Another good weapon would be Red 7 pistol on re4 original was basically a hand held slug shotgun fully upgraded it ended up being my main weapon of choice for most the game haha
Blades of Chaos in the original GOW and GOW 2 are more than enough for the whole game. I always max those first and worry about magic and extra weapons later. Never done me wrong yet on any difficulty setting. GOW 3 I liked the gauntlets though.
Rydia's mist dragon Summon in FF4 deserves a mention in the GBA version at least, just keep giving her golden apples and a few silvers and she can eventually after getting the mist dragon Ring deal max damage, cast blinkcharacters require 5 hits on your character in a round to hurt them) on the party and only use 25 mp a shot as opposed to something like bahamut costing a few 100 and dealing only half max while doing nothing else.. Tornado or instadeath are the only better spells she gets for damage and both are low chances at doing anything.
The Buster Sword part completely disregards it's lack of materia slots. Sure it may well be better in damage output towards the start, but it doesn't last.
one point about the shotgun: DON'T use it against enemies that ALSO have shotguns! that goes for MOST games, not just Doom! also, the Pistol in Halo 1 is one of two weapons that can kill a Hunter with ONE hit to the weak point on its back! the other is the Sniper Rifle.
i thought i was missing something when i played 'dead space' default weapon is the only effective weapon to slice the limbs off, they are bullet sponges when using any other weapon hahaha
The entire Doom entry assumes people weren't using the IDKFA and IDDQD cheats. The shotgun's abundant ammo is literally only relevant to speed runners. 😅
Sure you can beat these games with the starting weapon but like you said, you have to know what you’re doing lol. Dark souls 3 for example. The long sword can carry you through the whole game but that means you have to be somewhat good at the game. With the long sword you have less margin of error. Now let’s say you use one of the great swords, with that weapon you can make a lot of mistakes and still come out alive because all you need is one good hit on an enemy to kill them instead of 3 hits with the long sword
I don't think that the pistol in Halo is overpowered, it's every other wepaon that is underpowered. Why do I have to empty an entire assault rifle magazine for one enemy?

Hunters Axe is spin to win! Got the platinum with that thing.
Dragon Sword in Ninja Gaiden (not talking about the NES games) is really all you need through the entire game.
The taser or stun gun, I can't remember what it was called from Syphon Filter. 😂 that baby cooked the enemies. 😂😂
"The Knife" in RE 4 , "Blades Of Chaos" God Of War "Dying Light"Cyberpunk
The Onimaru in The Granstream Saga. It's hidden near the start of the game but if you know how to find it, it's got the highest attack stat of any weapon in the game.
4:45 “number thix”
ok so im not the only one
Bioshock. The ol' 1-2. Anything else is ... well, not wrong, but definitely less efficient.
oh, you mean the Wrench?
IF you equip appropriate Passive Tonics, it's quite effective.

Elden Ring’s Samurai starting class: “Am I a joke to you?!?”
😂

I hate that at times
oh, i think they did at least one video about that.
it's called something like "games that let you taste god-like power, for ten seconds."
@@ericb3157 I’d believe it. Sometimes they regurgitate topics or change them slightly.
But.... The shotgun in Doom isnt a starting weapon... You don't START with it. Your starting weapon is a pistol.
I mean it is and it isn't, you get it within seconds of starting E1M1. Most players have it within a minute of starting, hence starter weapon.

You start with a shotgun in doom eternal

Semantics.

Nice to see you again Jess
Not surprised to see the plasma cutter from Dead Space here.
Also, the Cutter is Starfield, once you fully upgrade the laser weapon perks becomes one of, if not the, best weapons in the game.
I could listen to Jess all day. 😊
Love the Hunter’s Axe, feels like it doesn’t get the love it deserves since the Saw Blade is the weapon of choice for no-hit and speed runners (at least the ones that I have watched)
I just played Remnant 2 and I used the Blackmaw gun, which is one of the first you can get, the entire time.
Starting pistol in Black Ops 1 zombies, pack-a-punched turned it into dual wield rocket launched
Love your videos

Best thing about SR3 is that gun and trying to juggle people with it
Jess is the best always

Given that many weapons on the list aren't really a secret for being powerful, I think you should have added the Dragon Sword from Ninja Gaiden.
On this subject the bow and arrow in the Tomb Raider remakes doesn’t get mentioned enough. I used it basically the whole way through the first game and had a blast with it.
Up until you get the automatic rifle. But yes I used the bow alot in the first one.

I kept the second sword you get for cloud in rebirth for way too long 😂
When I think back about my original time with dead space I didn't even realise there were other weapons 😅

What about the Painkiller?
The gravity gun in half life 2 is pretty powerful I'm surprised it did not make the list
Honourable mention, the Crow bar from half life
Agreed
All well and good but the gaming lists playlist is 3 months outdated

I'm only here for most beautiful thing about WHAT CULTURE....Jessica ❤😅😅
I expected to see that wooden sword again, nice that Jess managed without it.
Bloodborne... The cane whip. Anything else is uncivilized.
well poo, I always liked my Saw Spear in Bloodbourne
Kings Field 2
Try finger, but whole.
What, no crowbar from Half Life?

Please, add timestamps, someone!
Bring back the old hair Jess 😢

The buster sword is the signature weapon of zack fair, cloud is a nobody who got lucky.
It's this eyes isn't it
The stupidity if the final fantasy weapons, like clouds sword, is a big part of the reasons i cant play those games any longer.
