Amateur radio data hotspot! Pi5 support

  • DigiPi allows you to operate your amateur radio using nothing more than a Raspberry Pi and a wifi device. Things like wsjtx and js8call run like apps on your phone. All configuration is done via a web browser. DigiPi makes a great APRS TNC, digipeater or AX.25 node. This release makes a lot of changes under the hood and provides a new APRS "WebChat" interface for fast-and-easy texting over the global APRS network! DigiPi 1.8 is based on Raspberry Pi OS bookworm which includes suprpot for the new scalding-fast Raspberry Pi5. Available to patrons of KM6LYW Radio -- any donation will do, and we'll get to meet!

    This is incredible. I've been following the Tech Prepper and his EMCommTools project, but this already has...everything. This is awesome. I'll be subscribing as soon as I research the correct Raspberry Pi. Keep up the good work!

    Amazing work! I'm definitely going to build one.
    Btw, the "running joke" with the intro music... if you don't mind me saying, I think you should be proud of it, not laugh it off. It's your thing now, it'd almost be weird if you didn't have it.

    Graig you have finally gotten me to think about using this in my vehicle. With no data corruption you could just have it turn on when I start the vehicle. Have this buried and have it buried. For both radios I have it the vehicle I will need an audio interface so I will need to work that out. Nice and thank you.

    Great video. I would love to use a cheap little Raspberry pi board instead of my laptop but I have several hurdles….
    Is there any way to get the logs sent in realtime to LoTW, QRZ, Club Log, EQSL as I do with Grid Tracker that I run on my PC? Also like one other person, I see asking about their FlexRadio 6600. I also own a FlexRadio 6600. The FlexRadio special software that creates virtual com ports that connect to the Ethernet port on the FlexRadio on a PC is a must have. Right now I mostly use my iPad Pro tablet with my FlexRadio 6600, and that gives me many features, but the developer only supports FT8/FT4 for digital modes, and SSB/AM. I can’t do any of the other Digital modes on the iPad.
    I do look forward to the day when the raspberry pi is more ubiquitous … thanks again for the video.. very interesting what can be done with that software..

      I researched getting time in the woods.. tried NIST and researched getting time from the average js8call transmissions, in the end, the best bet was to use a GPS. DigiPi gets time from the ic705 internal gps for example. If you boot with a GPS dongle, digipi can get time from that as well.

    • @KM6LYW

      Generally speaking only one app can use a sound card at a time. Things like digipeater and aprs-webchat are co-dependent, so there's some concurrency when needed.

      Under the hood it still uses VNC. DigiPi implements a browser-based VNC session to make it easier for everyone. No client software required on your wifi device, however, you can still run RealVNC if you'd like.

    Will this work with the ptt on a Digirig?

    • @KM6LYW
      @KM6LYW  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, but a small tweak is requried for to use the special serial-port-ready-to-send ptt method. Put "PTT /dev/ttyUSB0 RTS" at the bottom of the five direwolf .conf files, and the digirig (and other RTS devices) will work.

  • @LJH08Ralith
    @LJH08Ralith 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Will this work with digirig and 2m mobile rigs? I would imagine so because direwolf itself will.... just unsure how complicated your setup options are.

    • @KM6LYW
      @KM6LYW  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes and yes. DigiRig uses a special RTS/PTT method, which isn't directly supported, but it's easy enough to add a line to direwolf.conf. digipi.org has a fet/ptt/gpio circuit you can build for your 2m mobile rig which is directly supported by DigiPi.

    • @KM6LYW

      Yes, but it's not directly supported yet. You'll need to put "PTT /dev/ttyUSB0 RTS" at the *bottom* of each direwolf .conf file in /home/pi . I don't have a digirig just yet, it's "unusual" using RTS to activate PTT.

Why ham radio did not change format modulation from FM to PM Phase quadrant to 256 position in order to create 256 bit digital transmission. Today using SDR technology CPU chip able to running Clock in extreme very high Clock counting, so the phase modulation is enable just like ETSI GSM technology was available today... Don't use voice over FM, dont use HDB3 over FM, Just jump over using Quadro Phase Modulation technology just like GSM ETSI Standard... working on ham radio like 1.2 GHz or smaller 128 bit over lower band on 440 MHz ham band...
