To all my fellow ’Perfume enthusiasts, welcome to the #1️⃣ TH-cam Perfumer, Sam Macer !!! …So I’ve been following SM for awhile now, and when this video was posted 2 months ago, without even finishing it, I jumped headfirst on ordering the 35+ Raw Material kit… I’m here to say, that at just shy of turning 60, I’ve been having the time of my life every day since, creating new fragrances, while gaining more knowledge, with these very fine materials & Sam’s professional videos 😃 Since I live in Canada, the exchange & import fees were not great, but ultimately worth every penny,… Please gift yourself this opportunity, you’re worth it, and I can assure you that you will be thrilled above & beyond 💫 *This is not a paid advertising 🤣
I’m trying to do as much research and reading as I can before I start. But I’ll be grabbing the starter kit from you when I do start in appreciation for what you do. Your channel is packed with so much awesome information man.
@@ekaterinadergam I want to say yes but I think you mite have a higher level of get a bad reaction on your skin . I think there are 2 kinds of ess oils but do your research on the ones you have get in contact with the company that sold them to and ask.
@@ekaterinadergamI've made a couple perfumes with essential oils. make sure you get the essential oil and not a "fragrance blend" because the essential oils are pure, the fragrance blends are already mixed together with who knows what all.
Am so glad someone is doing this - I’ve been into collecting frags for a bit , and have a bunch of mostly designer, cheapies, mid east, vintage/discontinued - couple of Chanel’s/ysls etc. But I also have about a hundred ingredients - which I dabble with, for fun mostly - am not too serious about it. I have just started ‘dabbling’ again - so your guidance is extremely useful. Thankyou 👍🥂
Sam, thanks for this video, i rememeber you did a similar video a few years back after which i got those materials and more. now i after watching this video i can assure that I have all of these materials and more but when i see most of the accord formulas online there is always something that i dont have which is very discouraging. so far the only accord that i successfully created with these materials is the grojsman accord. please guide me what more can be made with these materials which will give me some confidence that i made something worthwhile. thanks
Im creating parfume now and my process is really common, im using chat GPT to create new unique fragrance. You can even ask him to create you a parfume around 2-3 ingredients you would want and chat gpt will create a formulation with scent going well... even explaining why each element complement each other... i already made 3 parfume using that Process and for now they are very very nice, I even made one with 19 ingredients,,, with no knowledge in parfumery almost and just following chat gpt ratio of dilution and ratio in the mix of the parfume.

Thats where i find AI interresting.
If you have3-4 ingredients you absolutely want in your parfume, go to chat GPT, Ask it to take the role of a master parfumer so it can acces the data on parfumery and science of olfactive molecules, than ask him to create a more complex parfume with your request on the type of parfume. Example, i would like to have Yuzu, pineapple, vanilla . thansk ask chat GPT something like this, can you crate a more sophisticayes parfume with those 3 ingredients, i would like you to create a parfume with 5 ingredient in top notes, 5 ingredients in mid notes and 6 ingredient in base note including those i asked you, Each ingredient should complement each others and go well toghether. I would also need the correct ratio of each ingredients... Something like that
Thank you so much for this informative and colourful video. I just started to explore these perfumery/essential oils recently and I am blown away by how gigantic the nature has offered us with numerous scents with different notes and characteristic. I am learning a lot from your videos. And love these little happy musks lol.
Oh, your channel is soooo helpful! I'm thinking about trying to mix fragrances by myself and realised that there is almost no information in my native language (I was so surprised that last proper book in Russian on making perfumes was published in 1955), but luckily I found your channel. I have experience in making face cleansing gels and cold process soap, and very much excited about fragrances.
If I could give 300 likes, I would. 💚 What a fantastic vid Sam. The landscapes made it fun to follow! In terms of the musks, I would personally go for Romandolide myself; and good call on the Sandalwood. Even Javanol can get pretty pricey real quick. Para mi, I might add an indonesian patchouli (since the absolute is way too pricey) and a spice like cinnamon or pink peppercorn oil, but you've nailed the essentials. Very well done!
Great vid Sam. I am a perfume collector first, and this is my newest interest - making my own. I’m not necessarily interested in business ventures; more of a personal hobby. I have some very expensive perfumes and have acquired exquisite taste ($$$$) so I am interested in recreating my own versions of beloved accords/scent profiles with super high quality ingredients; however, I don’t want to waste expensive ingredients either. How do we determine whether to use the super expensive floral absolutes vs. commercial bases or molecular version?
Very informative, Sam. Thank you. Not particularly interested in creating perfumes, but your vid provides alot of information on the characteristics of each raw material. I've quickly learned that perfumery is definitely an art !
Too much informative. I have a request, kindly make a video on carrier oil based perfumes and alcohol based perfumes. And also how alcohol should be diluted if undiluted? Thank you Sam ❤

Loving the video so far sam. Thanks to your videos i will be buying my starter kit soon. An idea for a future video, can you list the accords we can make using the raw materials listed in this video, all in one video? Personally i would find it useful to see an all in one video to keep a track of accords we can make and start with.
Thank you! I will be making video(s) using the kit to make accords, I haven't decided yet if it will be one video or a few separate ones. Thanks for your feedback on putting them all in one, noted.

I'd add Tonka bean (ou Coumarin) to the Traditional notes. I'd also replace Lavender EO with Lavender Absolute. I would've started with workhorse materials as a category, and add Ambroxan in there.
@@JayMannStuff Since it's meant to serve as a first step in perfumery, I think it's more appropriate for students to learn the traditional canonical materials first in most cases instead of more nice (even if arguably nicer) variants. I like anisyl acetate too but I think anisaldehyde is more universal. Many of the notes fit into multiple categories such as coumarin, however I had to organise them due to screen space / populating each category, of course these same notes could be categorised many different ways.
Tonka beans are readily available on Amazon in the US, and a simple alcohol tincture is incredibly cheap and easy to make. Roughly 12 dollars US (including the glass bottle) can provide you with a dozen large batches of very potent and long-lasting raw material. ❤
@@mickeyconnor830 with less than 6€ for a gramm of tonka bean absolute I wouldn't bother tincturing, actually. @JayMannStuff the problem with lavender absolute is, the quality of a bad one compared to a good one is way way worse than the quality of a bad lavender eo compared to a good one. Also way more restricted, thus already less beginner friendly. Patchoulol is also a bad replacement for patchouli eo, it's use is rather limited to fresh transparent creations (which not everyone is looking to make) or as a minor modifier (which again makes less sense in a beginner kit)
Great vid. I would like to start making perfumes, but im really not a fan of perfume and all the most common aromachems, so it will need to be eo's, absolutes and absolutes. Do you know of a good place to buy these things?

Hello, Sam. Many thanks for your awesome videos. I have few questions: 1) why can't you ship perfumes and oils to the US? 2) what is your web site and 3) if I get the oils, can I mix with water or other oils instead of Alcohol? Or using only little amount of Alcohol, like 20%? I love perfumes and would love to experiment through a trusted source for niche quality ingredients like you. What happens when we create 1% and 10% dilutions of raw materials and use them? If we use only diluted raw materials, will the finished perfume still be 20% if we created 20ml of perfume essence, and added 80ml of alcohol? Will it still be 20% perfume (eau de perfume) if we used diluted raw materials or the finished perfume is therefore diluted even more than 20%? Can you elaborate on that?
Thank you Sam!!So much for such an informative content. Can we make perfume using just essential oils ? What is synthetic materials benefits?Thank you!!
Hy Sam Thank you for teaching us and i have a question please. First of all you have a great working space and a amazing collection. How long realy is the durability of raw materials in your opinion? Naturals and Aroma Chemicals All the best Aleks

I have been watching you for quite some time now,you are such a resource! I have for a long time now wanted to make my own perfume. There is a perfume I would like to make if possible, the superdose from juliette Has A Gun .I love love love that perfume! But even when some people say it's very strong and long lasting, ,it disappeared so quickly. If I wanted to make just like superdose, but stronger, more pencil shavings! Do you have an idea where to start ? I'm in Sweden, so I hope I can find a business that can sell me what I need. Do you have some ideas? How to make this perfume and make it stronger and more pencil shavings Thank you for your time ! Angie from Sweden ❤
thx alot took me a while to find this video.. what about synthetic materials? ps i think a few important ones are missing... for example grapefruit and pinaple is missing in citrus... peppermint, mint, apple and Pine also is missing :D:D i thnk these are also very important scents
Hi, im only asking, which basic raw materials do you will use if you was making sauvage perfume?:) or it will be great for yt video about this. Its my fav perfume smell but right now it getting worse..., all dior :) Just curious.thanks!
I think a starter kit should have an Apple app so that the app provides alternate list of ingredients with book text recommendation and textbooks and a running total of what you use simply by inserting a needle that is WiFi into the bottle. Or keeping a running total of the raw ingredient a drops used per recipe script.
Question: How does someone create perfumes with 20 - 30% concentration when they create 10% & 1% dilutions of their raw materials? Would the scent that smells good using the 10% dilution still smell the same way at 30% and the dilution level only affects longevity of the scent?
You just go down your list and work out how much actual raw material there is The formula is the dilution number 1, 10, 20, 50 % etc. multiplied by the amount on the scale. Then divide by 100 So a 20% Oakmoss dilution that weighs 0.120 grams with the alcohol would be 20 x 0.120 Divided by 100 = 0.024g of actual Oakmoss. Once you have the true amount, then add up all of those. Then do your juice to alcohol ratio for 10,20, etc % Yes dilutions do make an impact on smell, and certainly effect performance.
Orange oil is strong I put it in something I was trying out and I only put a small amount compared to the other ingredients and it smells like orange and vanilla…. That’s it…. A damn creamsicle after hours of pondering 😂 this perfumery isn’t for the weak willed I think younger me would have just given up but I can’t be the next Jacques Polge overnight 🤷♂️
a lot of people have skin reactions to citrus in large amounts - I’ve gotten what appeared to be a chemical burn before from high quality essential citrus oil added to my bath. The traditional use perfumery citruses allow me to enjoy citrus without that reaction.
Sam, can you please tell me what exaclty is the smell of C 13 Tridecanal ? Is it smell like soapy metallic dry down nuances in Bleu De chanel or any bentley perfumes ?

Hey Sam! Thank you for your videos they help a lot! I have seen that you mentioned De Hekserij as a supplier in the EU. Do you or anyone you know have any experience with the raw materials they have? If you had to rate their quality (for example performance wise and in other aspects) on a scale of 1-100 what would you say? I have also taken a look at the site called Harrison Joseph but there were a few raw materials I could not find. There is little to no description for most of them which sometimes makes it hard to decide whether I should consider getting it.
Thank you. No I’ve never ordered from them myself so I cannot say. Harrison Joseph is a great place to purchase in my experience but you’re right, sometimes the descriptions are missing but you can find them elsewhere
Hi Sam Loved your video and i already note down the mat for newbies like me May I know more info about your online courses? and for that EO like Jasmine, and others. do you still dilute them in 10%, in perfume alcohol or DPG?
Thank you. The online course is currently under construction but when it's ready I'll add links to my videos. And to answer your question, yes, in alcohol
Thanks Sam I have been slowly buying new materials and switching from fragrance oils to synthetic raw materials it would really help if the fragrance foundry could ship to It would really help if I could get the fragrance foundry to ship to the USA or if you could link were we can buy all of the products because no other websites have the starter kit like you have as always thanks for the inspiration and education
Ok thanks I will definitely order that I have tried adding some of these ingredients to my fragrances and it makes the smell great but I want them to stick to the skin better and for longer and suggestions?
Sam, do you do other things besides perfumery? I am curious! also, great videos for helping people learn! I love Labdanum, I have a fragrance based around it I'm wearing now. Do you know of an ingredient or accord for jacaranda? I had a tree in-front of my house as a kid and wanted to make something for my wife that smelled like jacaranda
Yes of course I do some other things and thank you. And no, I've not heard of jacaranda. But maybe you could do some research online, that's what I usually do
Hello, do you guys know if you can take the starting kit on a flight? My country is outside of EU and I'm struggling with shipping options, so considering to have a friend of mine in the UK order it for me and bring it when they visit home.
I am very interested in perfumery, and I will get going asap, so I have a question. Is 10 ml of Bergamot FCF or any other top, heart, base note enough for testing in the beginning? It looks very little, as I imagine it'll take several attempts to land a decent perfume. What is an adequate quantity in your opinion for such notes?
Hi Sam, Thank you so much for sharing,it was very informative. However,am chatting from Nigeria. If am to get order from you how do i go about? Moreso,do you mentor people?I will appreciate it if you can be my mentor. I want to go fully into perfume business. Reply soon please. Thank you
hi sam I want to buy essential oil for training and start my journey but their is no delivery to my country so i search for alternative company around me but they have essential oil for candle and cosmetics is this the same of essential oil that use in perfume
Hi I want to start my hobby perfumery I gathered a list of 34 starting raw materials (all 10 grams) under €150, which is my budget: Aldehyde C14 gamma undecalactone Alpha isomethyl ionone Ambrox super Anisaldehyde Atlas cedarwood EO Aurantiol methyl anthranilate Bacdanol Benzoin Siam resinoid Bergamot EO Beta ionone Cinnamaldehyde Cis-3 hexanol Coumarin Ebanol Ethyl linalool Ethyl maltol Ethylene brassylate Floralozone Florol Fructone B Galaxolide Grapefruit pink EO Guaiacwood EO ( I know this one is kinda tricky (really viscous) but I have analytical chemistry experience) Hedione Helional Iso E super Lavender EO Labdanum absolute Lemon EO Patchouli EO Sweet orange EO Vanillin Vertofix Vetiver EO Anyone any thought on this list to start and purchase my raw materials
Unless the starting kit contains 5mls to 10mls, not sure it’s an investment. In other words concentrated anything we do not want because it creates waste. Would a distillate product be better as a raw material. Old age question,.

Will it still be 20% perfume (eau de perfume) if we used diluted raw materials or the finished perfume is therefore diluted even more than 20%? Can you elaborate on that?
You use a mixture of 10% dilutions and 100% pure to get a dilution in the middle. An app like Formulair helps you do this easily without the maths
Thank you Sam!!So much for such an informative content. Can we make perfume using just essential oils ? What is synthetic materials benefits?Thank you!!
Yes you can. Synthetics are useful since they’re often cleaner smelling, allowing you to make modern smelling perfumes
When are you restocking the kit?!
It's awesome, but where can we buy that specific alcohol tsda sb-40? with international shipping pls
this was so helpful. awesome!
Thank you for this video!! So so much appreciated! Ordered my first starters kit just an hour ago. Hold thumbs for an INVEPTIONAL nose here😜
Thankyou for sharing such a wealth of information.
Could you please share how to make white oud?
Hy Sam
Thank you for teaching us and i have a question please.
First of all you have a great working space and a amazing collection.
How long realy is the durability of raw materials in your opinion? Naturals and Aroma Chemicals
All the best
Aleks
Great video! How do you think about making perfumes that complement a persons natural scent?
Do we need to add carrier oil with essential oil before adding alcohol?
Thanks you for all of the valuable information, when is the next starter kit set to be available for purchase
Should be a week or two, just waiting for the new balances to arrive
@@sammacer okay perfect, do you ship to the US?
I am so ready to get going,… Very much a beginner, and presently, I’ve just been layering with my sons and my existing fragrance collection, along with touches of my EO’s,… if you put together a complete kit for me, I would gladly purchase said from you in heartbeat 🤗

One of the best on topic. Namate from India
great video!
great content thanks ♥
can you make a video about how to determine the best oil concentration after finishing a formula
You test them out and see which one you like
Can these raw materials be used as they are? While making a perfume. Sorry i have zero knowlege but 100 percent interest in this.
How to make this perfume and make it stronger and more pencil shavings
Thank you for your time !
Angie from Sweden ❤
What do you suppose makes up the differences in “feminine” “masculine” and “unisex” scents?
thx alot took me a while to find this video.. what about synthetic materials? ps i think a few important ones are missing... for example grapefruit and pinaple is missing in citrus... peppermint, mint, apple and Pine also is missing :D:D i thnk these are also very important scents
Hey Sam! You are great and just gorgeous!
Can you make a video for the top ready made bases in terms of nature identicality and scent quality?!
Hi, im only asking, which basic raw materials do you will use if you was making sauvage perfume?:) or it will be great for yt video about this. Its my fav perfume smell but right now it getting worse..., all dior :)
Just curious.thanks!
I think a starter kit should have an Apple app so that the app provides alternate list of ingredients with book text recommendation and textbooks and a running total of what you use simply by inserting a needle that is WiFi into the bottle. Or keeping a running total of the raw ingredient a drops used per recipe script.
A store there you can keep for tools and more advanced pro kits etc
A store too to order pro kits for fragrances and other tools and more advanced kits.
Coconut or Coco Rico the soda has a fresh sea marine smell.
Bro…I need help to see your video , after I bought the stater kit, what i need to do ..thanks
Then divide by 100
So a 20% Oakmoss dilution that weighs 0.120 grams with the alcohol would be
20 x 0.120
Divided by
100
= 0.024g of actual Oakmoss.
Once you have the true amount, then add up all of those. Then do your juice to alcohol ratio for 10,20, etc %
Yes dilutions do make an impact on smell, and certainly effect performance.
You use some pure raw materials alongside your dilutions
i always just dump orange oil all over myself, am a natural i guess
Haha
I'll do you one better: I roll around in pile civet paste each day for that all natural twang.
Try adding a touch of vanilla
Any book for perfumery pdf link
Sam, can you please tell me what exaclty is the smell of C 13 Tridecanal ? Is it smell like soapy metallic dry down nuances in Bleu De chanel or any bentley perfumes ?
I don’t have it but it would probably smell soapy
Hi Sam, I had created some frags, all went good but I always miss some powdery feel that brands have. I couldn't have figured out. Any suggestions?
Hello, loved this video, when Will your kit be in stock again internationaly?
It is available internationally via our partner Harrison Joseph, link in product page
@@sammacerHello Sam! I’m having trouble adding the item to the cart/ creating an account on the website. I think there is a bug in the human verification and when choosing the standard item. I have tried on different browsers but nothing seems to work. Just letting you know.
Hi Sam
Loved your video and i already note down the mat for newbies like me
May I know more info about your online courses?
and for that EO like Jasmine, and others. do you still dilute them in 10%, in perfume alcohol or DPG?
Our partner Harrison Joseph ships internationally, check the link in our product description to get the starter kit on their website :)
Ok thanks I will definitely order that I have tried adding some of these ingredients to my fragrances and it makes the smell great but I want them to stick to the skin better and for longer and suggestions?
I give a BIG THUMBS UP to heliotropin, what a wonderful smell... A must

Which is a raw material that rappresent a cleany lavanda?
I didn’t find it… Thanks
Sam, do you do other things besides perfumery? I am curious! also, great videos for helping people learn! I love Labdanum, I have a fragrance based around it I'm wearing now. Do you know of an ingredient or accord for jacaranda? I had a tree in-front of my house as a kid and wanted to make something for my wife that smelled like jacaranda
Yes of course I do some other things and thank you. And no, I've not heard of jacaranda. But maybe you could do some research online, that's what I usually do
be carfull, this is a neverending story. im at 400+ now.
I’m here for it,… crazy expensive, but ya gotta live every day to the fullest 💃🏻🕺🏼
i need fig recommendations!!
Hi from the Philippines! I just wanted to ask if perfumers reuse amber bottles for new batches of perfume?
You can wash and reuse them as long as they’re washed properly
@@sammacer TYSM 🤩🥰
Whats your suggestion for a sugary sweet vanilla fragrance? In terms of raw materials 😊 Another great video! ❤
I'd start with vanillin and ethyl maltol
Brother can you make a video dedicated to iris and it's molecule, compound, etc..
Maybe one day
Hello, do you guys know if you can take the starting kit on a flight? My country is outside of EU and I'm struggling with shipping options, so considering to have a friend of mine in the UK order it for me and bring it when they visit home.
Unsure to be honest, you’d want to check the airline policy.
If you predilute everything to 10x you give yourself 10x more (in a sense) to blend with so I'd say it's enough for a while
So interesting, thanks for sharing.
Great video as awlays
Good to see you brother
Will u please help me with powdery note raw materials list🙏
Hi Sam,
Thank you so much for sharing,it was very informative.
However,am chatting from Nigeria. If am to get order from you how do i go about?

hi sam I want to buy essential oil for training and start my journey but their is no delivery to my country so i search for alternative company around me but they have essential oil for candle and cosmetics is this the same of essential oil that use in perfume
Usually those ones are lower quality and not ideal but still useable
@@sammacer thanks for replay
I am dying to purchase your beginners kits - I am in the USA -
Hi Sam! It is possible to create perfume only with natural essential oils?
Yes
Hi I want to start my hobby perfumery I gathered a list of 34 starting raw materials (all 10 grams) under €150, which is my budget:
Aldehyde C14 gamma undecalactone
Alpha isomethyl ionone
Ambrox super
Anisaldehyde
Atlas cedarwood EO
Aurantiol methyl anthranilate
Bacdanol
Benzoin Siam resinoid
Bergamot EO
Beta ionone
Cinnamaldehyde
Cis-3 hexanol
Coumarin
Ebanol
Ethyl linalool
Ethyl maltol
Ethylene brassylate
Floralozone
Florol
Fructone B
Galaxolide
Grapefruit pink EO
Guaiacwood EO ( I know this one is kinda tricky (really viscous) but I have analytical chemistry experience)
Hedione
Helional
Iso E super
Lavender EO
Labdanum absolute
Lemon EO
Patchouli EO
Sweet orange EO
Vanillin
Vertofix
Vetiver EO
Anyone any thought on this list to start and purchase my raw materials
Unless the starting kit contains 5mls to 10mls, not sure it’s an investment. In other words concentrated anything we do not want because it creates waste. Would a distillate product be better as a raw material. Old age question,.
