I hope this is a sign that third party full frame RF lenses are coming.
It's a very positive sign. That detail should come out soon.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker Good news.. at least
Very good. No more agreements needed. Approval has been given. Its now about designing and building and receiving regular announcements.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker makes me want to downgrade to APS-C (Canon but full .. Full-Frame) .. LOL ... Rejoice Canonists! Merci Simon !
@@OrdinaryFilmmakerSimon .. I want to think the noise « we » as the masses of long-term users of Canon have made .. voicing our strong feelings on Canon not opening quick enough the RF mount has played a role 😅
Just what I thought, and had commented on here before - just APS lenses from third parties, the class of lenses Canon doesn’t have, as they have more APS cameras than they do lenses for them. The new lenses will help Canon sell more entry-level cameras. It’s certainly good news and is a start. But what we really want are the Art series lenses from Sigma on RF mount. One day!
Yes, I agree. This was much needed for the R50 and R10. This gives them so many more options. Nikon first allowed APS-C on the Z mount. They only recently approved full frame. No details on full frame yet. Not sure if it is a canon restriction, or just part of the roadmap for Sigma and Tamron.
Great news ! Give use a 150-600 rf or a 400 5.6 ❤❤
It’s a big step in the right direction but we really need the full frame lenses like the 14 mm f1.4 or the 150-600 mm.
That what every one is thinking along side the 35 f1.4.
I'm definitely looking forward to Sigmas super telephotos for RF mount. That'd be the icing on the cake
Yes, waiting for the Sigma RF14mm f/1.4 Art series for astrophotography. Maybe by Christmas?????? What a great holiday gift (to myself).
This is why I follow this channel. I heard it here first. The rumors are just entertainment between the confirmed news stories… I’m dedicated to cannon, so this is also super exciting to me. Thanks for the update!
Exciting news. It could be a huge year for Canon. Can't wait for full-frame lenses.
Third party lenses, R52 and R1 - should be the best year since 2019.
Canon has never put energy into APS-c lenses. It was Sigma who rescued the EF-M mount. This is great news for APS-C users. The FF users, not so much.
That's true, though the EFS 18-135 USM was a surprisingly good general purpose lens. I still ahem that lens.
I used to admire the canon ef-m cameras for their affordable third party lenses, but now I just want to marry my r10 lol.
I'd also look at the R50. Both are very good cameras.
Simon, you might want to add to the sales currently going on . . . . Canon's own company online store in the US are selling the factory refurbished R5 for $2399! That's nearly as low as it was around Black Friday last year. The R6 Mark2 is $1799. I have bought numerous cameras and lenses over the years directly from Canon refurbished and in every case, the item looked new and it came with a full 1 year warranty and was eligible for Care Pack Plus.
Now I don't have to get a z8. I can get an R5mkii when it comes out.
I wonder how many are thinking like you.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker Me!
Sure… unless you like using 17 MP if that 45 MP sensor
These are APSC lenses, I would still get the z8 if i was you
Get the Z8. As a Canon R5C, R5, and R6 mark II owner, I cannot recommend investing into this eco system. Nikon and Sony has much better value, especially Nikon right now.
I am so glad Tamron got involved!
No kidding
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker I have been very impressed with tamrons attention to details when it comes to weather sealing, autofocus accuracy, image quality and even lens stability. I am optimistic about finally upgrading to mirrorless. I have a 5dmkiv and I love it but soon when the prices become undeniable it is good to know that canon will be a viable option. The siren song of both Nikon and Sony is strong.....
This was the biggest frustration for canon customers and potential customers considering Canon. This changes everything. Now we can look to the R5 II and the R1 without any disclaimers ;) Smooth sailing ;)
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker this was my biggest putoff for upgrading, like the other bodies had way better support in terms of third party, now its an even playing field, which means I can adapt some of what I have, and take my time swapping lenses over to mirrorless without having to dump and change over everything at once. Makes it way easier and affordable to make the switch now.
Yep, and you're not alone. now there's hope - with APS-C, full frame wont' be far down the road - likely. a year.
Thank you for the update
You're welcome Martin. Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks Simon! Try to get some sleep, you will be burnt out before the actual announcement of the R5 ii 😂 Keep up the good work!
I will sleep soon. I will make it up. But for news like this, I have to be out there. No matter the time of day, people look to me being first ;) I have plenty of time to sleep when I'm dead ;)
Finally a step forward. Looking forward to full frame releases 100% along with the R5II of course. Cheers
Simon, thanks for the update which is good news. Hopefully these lenses will also have image stabilisation.
As always great news! Thank you so much! Such great news!
I was waiting for Sigma 85 1.4, but good that at least something is moving in this topic.
Love you vids man. This is excellent news!
Thank for your continues effort.
many thanks for your efforts to give us the breaknews
Exciting news! My R7 can be more than a birding only camera.
Wow😮. I will continue my Canon R10. Thanks to Canon.
Best of luck!
I now do not have to sell my R7!
@@TheBlueCollarConservative R7 is better as it has IBIS and none of these lens has IS.
@@ghalibsworld which is why I bought it over the R10
@@TheBlueCollarConservative I use RF 24mm F1.8 IS
This certainly came out of the blue! I saw this on DPReview first and then rushed to TH-cam. I have the R7 with a few RF lenses and am anxious to possibly get an ultra-wide zoom and also a long tele-zoom.
informative news Thanks Simon
I'd say very big news John ;)
Hey Simon! That's good news! Seizing this opportunity for a request: could you increase the font size of the key takeaways featured on the left as they are way too small to be read properly without pausing the vid and zooming in. Thank you! Btw great content and outstandingly devoted work as always. 👍
Good morning from a Norwegian living in south Brazil. This was really good new Simon. Hoping that Canon will aprove the 500mm f/5.6 soon too. That will for sure be a lens that I would be interested in.
A great day for Canon news. Sigma and Tamron and pricing info on the canon prime lenses ;)
Still shoot with 5d3 and was thinking about buying a Fuji or Nikon aps-c to my girlfriend , sucked to not have the same system but this changed everything will def buy a r10 and some of these third party lenses to her . Sigma uwa and sigma 23 and 56mm. Great kit with the kit lens for her
You might even look at the R50 - for its size and price, it is very capable.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker that might be the one , I just to photo work as a side gig but she just used to shoot for fun but enjoyed it a couple of years before we met (12 months ago ). I moved to her and the most important thing to her was to build a home studio for me there so I want to give back and suprise her with a camera of her own . With all that rambling yeah that camera might be the one for her thanks
If shooting for fun, excellent frames per second, way more than the 7 one would need at that level, 6K over sampled 4K for video, good set of features. I think its the best Canon affordable camera ever.
It's a camera I'll buy my son if he shows a little more interest in photography.
Thanks recently got canon r50 was about to buy adaptor which is always out of stock, but now sigma 18-50mm f 2.8 is the way to go.
Woohoo! This means that maybe i can get a decent zoom that doesn't cost me an arm and a leg for low light.
I’m excited about the Tamron 11-20 to use with my R7. I’m hoping the pricing will be in line with the Sigma lenses.
I have tried most of these lenses when I had my Canon M6ii
the 16, 30, 56
they where AMASING
to be honest i don't mind using them on the new R5ii with crop mode
I also think they will be a great option for those with the R7 too
these are unexpected good news
but that's a smart move from canon to allow sigma to do APS-C lenses, at least for the time being wile canon is busy covering the full frame range
Good stuff
i really hope they also are going to make rf full frame lenses im still using my old ef lenses
Nice, will there also come some telelenses and zooms for nature photography from sigmas and tampon?
Definitely a very welcome step in the right direction. Of course it's started with the cheaper APS-C lenses. I'm gonna hold fire from a big "whoop" of joy though until we get RF Full Frame lenses coming out. By the time I'm in the market for the R5 MkIII should know for sure if there are 3rd party RF FF lenses and will determine if I stay with Canon. Encouraging that same prices as E mount - hope that holds for the FF lenses.
I’m new to the photography world & most of this information doesn’t make no sense to me, but I can see your dedication to update your viewers and for that I salute you! Everyone who understands the meaning to all he’s saying should be appreciative!
I down own a camera yet, I’m just trying to get the right camera and the right lenses to record my kids play football (soccer in the states) 😊.
Finally!!! Fingers crossed we get a Sigma RF 70-200 2.8 soon!
I am pretty sure Canon was always going to do this on their own Timetable as opposed to listening to the JUNK noise about 3rd party. This is great move by Canon to only start with cropped lens. Genius Move.
I have the R5 and I don't always need 45 megs files. The Sigma 18-50 APS-C lenses could prove to be useful for some event photography gigs, and the Sigma 56mm would be great for shooting headshots, where I could shoot in APS-C crop mode. The setup would be so much lighter too!
Good... but what about the full frame lenses? It seems we will need to keep paying prime for a limited range of lenses... Hard not thinking in change brand....
Great news Simon!
AF is the question! And questions have been answered! Awesome update Simon. But they all seem to be for cropped sensors and not full frame. Did I miss something?
Watch the video mate ;)
I wanted to be first for a change.😅@@OrdinaryFilmmaker
Well, you nailed it. I'm so awake, there's no going back to sleep. What a great bit of news for May... I'd say this is better than the R5 II ;)
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker definitely better than R5 II news.
Thanks for the good news and what about the viltrox, samyang and other lenses
Only Sigma and Tamron made announcements today. We've been hearing about this since October, but I only heard about Sigma and no one else.
That Tamron has just guaranteed I will be replacing my 80d with the R7. Now if Sigma announces the 60-600 S in RF mount wow..that will be even better news.
Was hoping for 2 zooms wide angle something gthat covers wide angle up to say 150mm and a super zoom for wildlife eg 200 -500mm
From one source: "Here are the numbers right after the APS-C lens announcement. Canon 39 lenses, 7 third party lenses= 46. Nikon 42 native and 35 third party = 77. Sony 78 native and 161 third party = 238 total." If you were building your mirrorless system kit, and wanted affordable yet quality lens choices, which brand would you choose to go with ? As one camera store salesperson commented today, "I see it every week at the camera store I work in. Once someone sees the numbers for all the brands of mirrorless AF lenses available ,only the really diehard Canon fans buy the Canon cameras." Cheers
Maybe it’s not about quantity…you can now affordably cover ultra wide to super telephoto with any of these systems - with coverage extending to 800mm in the Canon system.
Oh finally, I am looking forward to seeing what other lenses are coming from Sigma and Tamron, especially in the zoom lens department, for me things like the 150-600 are very impressive lenses for the price, its about time we finally start to see these sorts of lenses on the RF mount. This could be the thing that makes me upgrade to mirrorless from my 7D Mark II. I hope these lenses have complete use of all of the autofocus features which im sure they will, but im wondering if there will be some restrictions, say like the f11 canon primes?
I teased with he 150-600 because that is the most desired Sigma lens, followed by the 35mm. Seeing the would be a big deal for many that can't afford the 200-800 or need something a little more wide. Autofocus, weather resistant... man of man...
That’s great for the APC system. They absolutely needed that to be relevant.. as of now it looks like there’s still holding the full frame hostage no new third party lenses for full frame…. It’s obviously part of Canon strategy to get people into the ecosystem with the APC system and then hopefully get them to upgrade and pay full price for Canon lenses for full frame.
Great a bunch of APS-C lenses, but what about RF autofocusing lenses for full frame cameras?
Great start - but I NEED the RF versions of Sigma astrophotography optimized 14mm f/1.4 and 20mm f/1.4 for full frame lenses to become available. I would buy one or the other of those today if I could. PLEASE Canon, let that happen! Best nightscape lenses ever and we cannot yet use them.
I have shot CANON for years and love my R5 with lenses from F4 500mm on down. Having said that since CANON shut the door on third party lenses handing the lens selection advantage to SONY along with a huge cost advantage in each lens segment, I have told everyone who would listen to look elsewhere if investing in a FF system. This announcement is a big FU from CANON to FF RF users.
yes, really disappointing, I was lucky I got the samayang AF RF 85mm before, they removed it.
FINALLY.😃 A 10-18 f2.8, a 23 f1.4 and a 17-70 f2.8 please.
This is great news! It makes sense to give APS-C cameras some decent lenses as Canon make more of them than Sony and Nikon. So when are full-frame lenses coming?
It took them one yer with nike before releasing full frame. Not sure if this is a Canon restriction, or Sigma's.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker my guess is, it's Canon. Maybe FF starting next year.
This is awesome news! I am guessing full frame is next
2024 will be huge for Canon
This year is an exciting year for Canon shooters who can finally enjoy new releases of the much requested Canon wide-angle primes and third-party lenses after a long wait. Let's hope for no complaints this time. But wait... I can hear people complaining that there are no full-frame third-party lenses available.😖
Simon thats great news. I'm using the 30 mm on the EF-M Mount which works great. I expect this speeds the RF up. Currently I'm using an EF-RF adapted 17-70 which makes great shots.I would prefer to have this lens aswell but to use without the adapter. Also looking to get a RF 100 mm macro.
Yeah, that's a great focus length. the RF 50 f1.2 is my favourite lens. I just love ho it frames things up :)
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker Funny story:
I had long had it in the back of my mind I needed to get myself a Canon RF 50mm F/1.2 one day, and so I did. Tried it out, liked it, put it away, ticked it off the bucket list, and kind of forgot about it.
But I still had it firmly etched in the back of my mind I needed to get myself a Canon RF 50mm F/1.2 one day, and so I did. Tried it out, liked it, went to put it away, and in the back of my safe what did I see?
Perhaps I need to get out more.
Will be interesting to see if the third party lens manufactures will be offering any lenses in the super telephoto range for the RF mount? but all in all this is great news 😎👍
Announced on George's day! Thank you Simon, thank you Canon
Looking forward to the Tamron 35-150!
As an R7 user, this is great news. The Sigma "fast primes" rescued the mirrorless M mount for me, with superb quality at affordable prices. But those clamouring for a full suite of third party lenses should remember that neither Sigma or Tamron adapted their long telephotos, like the 150-600C or 100-400 Vi DC, for Canon's first generation of mirrorless crop sensor bodies. So we may still need to rely on Canon EF or RF glass for birds and wildlife. Like Canon, both Tamron and Sigma are in business to maximize profits.
I hope so much for the Sigma 105mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art to be ported to RF mount. But thanks Simon to be the bringer of good news!
Happy to bring such good news. I woke up at 2:15 looking at my messages. Stunned. Not sure what to do... so many lenses from Sigma and Tamron announced too... Took me 15 minute to do a rough draft and started recording. The only thing I forgot was a welcome statement to Sigma and Tamron and a thanks to Canon ;)
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker Oh man, hope you can catch some sleep later that day 🤞🤞, thanks again for your literally restless effort to bring us all the news and rumors related to our beloved hobby. ...and no stress, I didn't miss the "welcome statement" and the "special thanks" to the companies in your video covering such great breaking news. ...loved it.
I will get some rest later. I'm not trying to kill myself ;) I truly love this stuff. This is what I love doing, well as much as being out there showing ;)
Will there be any firmware limitations like Sony has with burst rates and teleconverters for 3rd party lense?
Any info on the RF 200-800 back-order issues?
Now I just want an RF body with an EVF hump, like the M6II or A7C
Well now I hope to see some telephotos and that would really bring me back if the r7ii will be any good
Good news! Smart to concentrate on APS-C lenses, as that's where the RF mount is weakest. Canon is essentially leveraging the ability of third-party manufacturers to rapidly flesh out their crop frame lens options.
Time will tell if full-frame third-party lenses get opened as well.
Are they image stabilized?
It's a start! I am waiting for the Sigma RF 135 f/1.8 and Sigma RF 200 f/1.8 lenses.
I am not sure if a Sigma RF 150-600 Sport lens could beat the Canon RF 100-500 lens, but we'll see.
Yeah Simon, as of today .. Canon is no longer the bad guy in the glass department 😀
An important detail you overlooked in the excitement: they work together with the IBIS ! (at least sigma)
So far these are only RF-S options, but that's also the corner with the biggest need for extra blood.
In hindsight, we should have waited 2 months ago when getting the RF-S 10-18 for my wife, because now there are even 2 weather sealed options .. but probably not in time for our July trip to Scotland.
It's not that I overlooked it, just that I assume everyone would know this. I have to watch out for assumptions ;) I'm sure your 10-18 will do fine. One thing about weather sealing, just because the lenses is weather sealed, doesn't mean it isn't. I've shot niagara falls form a boat at the base and it gets very wet very quickly. I was shooting video with the 70D and the 18-135 and no issues. Non weather sealed lenses still offer some protection. But the problem with any lens is without any IP rating, we don't know how good the rating is.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker in the past (EF days) the lens IS could work on its own. But having IBIS and IS work together requires a clear protocol (and not just hacking it like in the old days) because otherwise they screw up each other's attempt to get everything smooth. I strongly believe this was at least much reason as AF protocol for Canon to oppose third party RF glass until they have now a controlled way to coordinate between body and lens.
We should indeed get IP ratings, but it's not trivial to predict all conditions and to ensure sealing remains intact for many years.
My 70D was (mildly) weather sealed, but stopped working (electronically) during a rainy day in Norway 2021. After a night and morning playing with a hair dryer, I could cure it, but that was the trigger for me to get the R6.
My also weather sealed 100-500 never had an electronics problem, but still got fogged up internally in Bali (hot and rain/humid outside, much colder in hotel airco). Without hairdryer around, it took me nearly to days before I could use it again.
Anyway, my wife's 10-18 is not her most crucial lens, so when it needs a few days to digest a waterfall encounter we'll survive.
Now the Canon r5 mark 2 is looking good. PS: All but one are for the APS-C ? ? ? ?
Great news and I hope it is the shape of things to come. However, what we really wanted was the super zooms for full frame, especially the 150 to 600mm and the 60 to 600mm. Since these already exist for other full frame mounts then it would take very little effort I surmise to make them RF mount and protocol compatible. Needless to say, I wont be holding my breath. I am still looking at switching to Sony.
Im looking for the 56mm sigma rfs lens i had it om my canon m50 it is one of the sharpes lenses.
You mentioned a Sigma 10-18 mm which I am interested in, but showed an image of Sony's 18-50 emount. Will those different focal lengths have similar pricing?
I screwed up the editing. We get both lenses.
Great news. Fills a lens gap for the Canon R mount APS -C cameras.🎉
Will have to wait another couple of years for the Sigma DG DN lenses for the full frame R mount cameras like the R6 and R5 type cameras? 😮
It also give Sigma to perfect things before releasing things for more demanding customers on the R3, R52 and R1. We might have to wait a year before full frame lenses.
Well that is awesome news. Good on canon
Wow at last !
Now for the pricing
Yep, I included that. I'm told that the pricing will match what we see on the E mount. Some of the prices in the video are sale prices so expect the regular price.
@OrdinaryFilmmaker The Sigma pricing looks incredible value and the gap between cheap and L lenses is now getting filled. Just really late, Canon probably lost many shooters to Sony, Nikon and others
Nice lets hope the other lenses come soon like the Sig 85 1.4 art 😁
I hope so too, but getting six lenses announced on the first day is a pretty big deal. Much better than a single lens manual focus lens every six months of so...
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker oh yes for sure
Now that is great news, can't wait for these lenses to hit the retailers ................. Nice one Simon 👍
Thanks Mike. Got so excited, I just can't get back to sleep ;)
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker 🤣🤣🤣
Finally I feel comfortable migrating to mirrorless.
I am not sure if may buy any of these, Simon. Maybe the 18-50 or the 56 mm lens as a portrait option.
Do you realize what you're doing? You're choosing between different third party lenses from one vendor - with autofocus... nice feeling isn't it ;)
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker it sure is
great news , is the music for my ears
Exciting but hoping that SIgma comes out with the 24-70 f2.8 soon. :)
Are we going to ignore the fact that Samyang had these years ago? I have been shooting the Samyang 85 1.4 for years and it’s magical.
That’s awesome I was thinking about switching to Sony now hope is here can’t wait, thanks for the good news
A lot of good Canon news these past few weeks.
Thank you for getting up so early to do this. I have to say, I don’t really care about these small lenses. I’m looking for something that gets big telephoto and super telephoto range from sigma. Most people who already have cameras already have these ranges covered.
This kind of supports my theory that Canon is becoming the go to brand for amateurs. Even where I live all the new budding photographers are walking around with entry-level Canons shooting families in direct sun😅The average consumer doesn’t know the difference. To stand out in my market, it’s actually better to avoid Canon completely strictly based on perception. Just my two cents as a guy who owns cameras from multiple brands.
I wonder how many photographers stay away from Canon because the company didn't allow for third party lenses? If I were to choose a system, I would definitely go with one that allows for third party lenses because the cost of native glass has reached cosmic proportions (third party lens options for my Sony cameras are really good). Non-OEM lenses cost much less, making them more attractive for many of us. What are your thoughts, Simon?
so exciting, but now Sigma is doing RF, im going to wait for the 35mm f1.2!!!
I just want my samyang XP 85 mm f/1.2 for Canon EF mount to work on RF mount with the EF-RF adapter...
Hopefully sooner than later FF will be released. At first I didn’t care much, since I purchase all L series glass. But it will be nice to take a bag out to shoot a non paid gig that’s valued at less that $10-15k knowing you can still get food shots while not having as much to worry about.
Let’s go!!
Those new third party lenses can I use with R6 mark ll ? From india
Sigma or tamron 70-200 I'm waiting so bad 😍😍😍
My Five Crop RF-S canon cameras are all happy.
So basically rf mount is getting apsc lenses that canon is fine with 3rd party manufacturers releasing. I moved to Z8 last year, happy with it.
Por fin! YUHUUU. Now some FF Rf lenses too jijiji
I just heard...loving this, finally. Sure, APS-C only for this round of releasements...I'd still love to see Sigmas 18-35 f1.8 done up in RF...I'll be waiting for Sigmas 24-70 f2.8 art.
True, but this is the exact segment that needed the affordable lenses. The high end is happy with Canon glass, and not interested in a cheaper price if optically inferior. However, full frame lenses would be nice, though these lenses can work on full frame cameras.
@OrdinaryFilmmaker
Well Sigma does have that 24-70 f2.8 on the E and Z mounts, so it would make sense in RF. Especially when it's nearly half the price Canon's (at least Sigmas older EF version is), it would pair well with the budget R8 or even my R7.
It took about a year before we saw full frame third party lenses not he Z mount, just give them time ;)
@OrdinaryFilmmaker
Well i've waited this long...
It took far too long, I'm selling my R7. My Lumix S5II performs almost just as well in the AF departement (slighty better in some areas in fact) especially after the latest firmware update. I can shoot full 30 fps with reasonable rolling shutter on a lens that cost me half the price of a Canon lens. I got tired of waiting.
Panasonic needs to release the S1 Ii and S1h II. They've shown that their AF is very good and hav a great set of video features.
Honestly I couldn't care less about those lens, I want to see the 50mm 1.4 85mm 1.4 28-75mm 2.8 70-180mm 2.8 28-200mm variable lens. But really it would be cool to see a 28-75mm 2.0 or even a 35-70mm 2.0 something to make us canon portrait shooters celebrate.
This is great. Unfortunately too late to the game for many.
Simon this is great news especially after yesterday. I don't want to be a debbie downer in the comments of anybody's videos, but damn canon was making it hard.😅
When the preorder is ready I will be glad to order off of your link!
One last thing. This announcement gives me hope that sigma will also make rf mount art glass like the 18-35
