  • Had enough of "use a metronome, start slow and gradually increase the speed"? This never, ever, worked for me, and in this lesson I'll show you why it's probably not working for you either.

This is a fresh, humane take on generally learning an instrument. Truly, truly refreshing.
I myself am coming back to guitar after a *long* hiatus dictated by the frustration of not being able to get results from the "usual suspects" routines and ways of practicing, if only for the empathetic value of knowing that there is someone else who struggled the same, this is liquid gold. Thank you so much.

Please note that my guitar is tuned to E flat in this video.

Interesting. I've been trying to learn a section for a song cover I'm working on. Has a lot of different things going on (rhythm, fast changes, muting, accenting) for the intro. I pretty much follow this philosophy, but for a while I was pushing myself for a bit but I feel like I just became sloppy doing that. So you recommend essentially making sure the motions are as fluid as possible then gradually upping the speed with a metronome and so on? Balancing the motions with tension and whatnot.

Hope this isn't too dumb a question but do you have to have your amp on a particular setting to get the guitar ringing out like that?

Puzzled by the comment concerning no thumb pressur behind the back of guitar

It's not so much "no pressure" as it is "not a pincer." It's more about balancing the weight of your arm than it is about squeezing. If you reduce thumb pressure, even temporarily as a troubleshooting tactic, it's easier to work on balance than if you're squeezing the **** out of the neck.

What part of this, specifically, is frustrating for you?
