Cool! I didn't know you could do that with a piece of copper wire. My method of straightening a length of wire is to clamp one end in a vice, the other end in the chuck of a drill. Twisting it will distribute and unevenness around the wire. It will also work harden it , which might be useflul, but if not, a propane torch will anneal it quickly enough.

They used to do something similar with gold wire back before we invented rolling mills.
