    2:35 - It looks like you're kitted up to do some forging. I recommend making a holdfast or two, plus a "doe's foot". Drill a few judiciously placed holes (about 3 evenly spaced on the far side of your bench) and, I suspect, you will have a MUCH more pleasant experience holding work down.

      I have a couple holdfasts, but I built my bench from cedar because I had a lot of it growing on my land and it is too soft to hold the holdfast. I'm thinking of cutting a couple squares out of my bench and making oak inserts with holes so I can use my holdfasts.

      @@thevillagecarpenter That should definitely work. I've re-bored raggedy dog holes and lined them with pvc - with LIMITED success. It works fine for bench dogs but not so much with hold fasts. However, maybe if you played with bench top thicknesses (usually adding some chocks under your dog holes) - that might work.
