What a beautiful shoot, everyone's work looks amazing! Your photography is stunning, so clean and crisp! I wanted to leave you a big "thank you!!!" for mentioning shooting the details! I can't tell you how many galleries I get back where I have maybe one or two usable shots of items (sometimes no shots at all!) and it's discouraging to see all those hours of creation and prep-work ahead of the shoot just be ignored. I mentioned the issue on a podcast I was on and had several stationers and calligraphers message me with their stories, so it seems to be a bigger issue than I thought. From all of us detail-vendors, thank you for looking out for our work!
Thanks so much. Funny enough I tried to record a flatlay video while I was at this styled shoot but like an idiot I actually didn't record my A-Roll camera. 🙃 I'd love to do one in the near future however.
Thanks for the video. I have been enjoying your channel for quite a while but I have been more enjoying as I recently planning to shoot wedding photography!!
For someone who wants to start doing styled shoots would love to know more info about the best way to connect with vendors(flowers, gowns and even venues) or how to approach them when you don’t really have a portofolio yet , what appropriate emails to write and so on. Thank you!!
Thanks a bunch. It was a long day. Bout 5 hours of setting up and shooting and then also breaking down. We were also on a time limit with the venue so it was a bit of a rush.
I love Squarespace! I also love the layout of your header and the use of gallery that fills your whole page. How exactly did you achieve that design? The only way I've been able to have a photo cover the whole page is to use a single photo. Love the videos! :)
Very helpful Video John. 1 Question for you. For the shots with the model included, did you focus your camera on the model or on the objects that were close to the model? Obviously when they are close to each other they may be on the same focus plane at some point but just curious which subject your focus point had in its crosshairs. Thanks!
Thanks so much! The X-T4 is super awesome I'm a huge fan. If you've seen my other videos on it my only real drawback is the flipscreen. But it's a great camera and the IBIS opens up a bunch of opportunities as well.
That's very true. Typically with a styled shoot each vendor is spending their time and also their money. The planner ended up paying for most of the table setting stuff and I also donated some to help her as well. I ended paying $500 to support this session and then for everyone else it was just a matter of donating their materials. So the dress came from a bridal shop and was donated, Same with the flowers, and so on.
@@jbivphotography Would you pick one lens over the other if you were shooting personally vs shooting for a client, or would you use the same lens for both cases? I'm wondering if the character of the 50 is something that an artist would embrace but a client might want something more sterile.
@@SquirrelHybrid I really do love the way the 50 looks and since have been using it on basically every shoot I have. I haven't used the 56 in a long time so honestly, I'm not even sure I would pick it up again.
Typically what I'll do is set the focus to continuous and zone. Then when the camera is in interval shooting it's going to keep trying to get focus on it's own. So it should always be on. I'm thinking about doing a couple of focusing videos which should help cover that.
I know this is a year ago but hopefully you’ll be able to help! How do I go about contacting local planners? How do I find a MUA or a gown or flowers? What is your approach to these businesses? What’s the process, what do you say? Lol. TIA!
The biggest thing to getting in contact with those businesses are going to be having a plan upfront. I kind of talk about it in this video but if you don't have a style and plan and vision they're not going to be on board at all. once you have that just contact them, let them know who you are, let them know what they'll get, and also any benifits. So if you're going to be submitting to publications or magazines they'll need to know that . Just get them excited about the whole thing.
A planner for a styled shoot? Mainly because involving a planner insures that you end up being in their good side and possibly get more recommendations. Or maybe they know more vendors that can help with the styled shoot. But if you have everything handled you really don't need one.

Awesome. I'll try and get that into my pipeline.

@@jbivphotography also I would love to tell us about your leather straps! Looking great!
Are you shooting the XT4 for stills as much as the XT3? Seems like a great camera.
Keep making like this, they are very educational..keep moving forward; Blessings and Peace to all.
Thank you for the encouragement. It really is helpful. I appreciate it and I'm glad you enjoyed the video!

Hi John. What do you recommend to make macro photos with Fuji ?
Great information! Your pictures were beautiful. Hope you can get your drone fixed. Thanks for sharing.
lol. It was like my first crash ever and it had to break. 😂
I have a venue, The Secret Garden, Sulphur, La. I am wanting to do a wedding styled shoot and tag correctly

Make a video on flat lay
I've been wanting to do one for the longest time actually. Hopefully I'll get one in soon.
Thanks for the video. There seems to be a number of costs for doing this. How did you budget for this?
That's very true. Typically with a styled shoot each vendor is spending their time and also their money. You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
Where can we get the shoulder strap harness
Hey there! It's Holdfast
I hope you get your drone fixed, I’m interested in buying myself your natural feel preset
Thanks a bunch! Gotta run to the repair land.
Why did you use 56 1.2 instead of 50 f 1.0? A few reviews ago you told about advantages in all cases of 50 f1.0 over 56 1.2.
This video is actually pretty old. Pre-official release of the 50. So I wasn't allowed to shoot with it if I wanted to show the photos.

How do you manage focus when you use a monopod for the overhead shot?
Typically what I'll do is set the focus to continuous and zone. Then when the camera is in interval shooting it's going to keep trying to get focus on it's own. So it should always be on. I'm thinking about doing a couple of focusing videos which should help cover that.

Why would I need a planner? I don't see the benefit or reason for having one.

the sensors didn’t go off because you flew into the tree sideways (The mavic air 2 doesn’t have side sensors)
Yep. Learned the hard way. 🙃
Hi john
Hey hey!
Sorry John. I hope you bought the DJi Care plan ☹
Thanks a bunch. I'm thinking it shouldn't cost too much to get things fixed.
@@jbivphotography I hope not. Drones give awesome angles👍🏾
Sucks about your drone. I just got the Mavic Air 2!
