    This was an awesome recap of the exposure triangle. Love the simplicity, love the example, and it was under 10 minutes!?👏! 10/10 Sir! Also, that transition to your promo on with Square Space was smoothly done 👍.

    I was going to send this vid to my students but the terms you use are way off. Shutter speeds aren't higher and lower, they're faster and slower. Apertures aren't higher or lower, they're larger or smaller. (BTW- it's similar to your pupil, not your iris. Iris size doesn't change). Raising the ISO doesn't let in more light, it makes the camera more light sensitive- like OG film ASA. Grain is not the same as noise. Sometimes similar visually, but very different technically. New camera users- especially those considering going pro, need to know the right terms and how a camera works.

      @tyler.walker ปีที่แล้ว +7

      At first I thought this was a bit pedantic, but after reading it all, I actually entirely agree.
      Using slightly incorrect terminology will still get the shoot done, but if you’re teaching people, you should be as semantically accurate as possible.

    Hey @John Branch IV Photography, just wanted to extend a thank you to you for your helpful content. I recently helped a family member out with some fall pics that I wasn't too fond of. My focus was off on most pics, but to be fair, we were working with some harsh natural lighting, and hyper kids running around lol. I'm studying more on Exposure, AF modes, and Metering Modes within my cameras settings to better understand how to properly expose my shots, and your videos have been very helpful. From the get, I've always shot in Manual mode. Currently, I'm working with an entry level Canon Rebel DSLR, kit lens, nifty 50mm, and a wide angle lens to learn the basics before dumping money into a proper mirrorless setup.

Okay.. it´s still Mark one, but the Lowlight-performance is extraordinaire! i can set it to ISO 50´000 by an´ aperture of f1,8 and nothing.. and i say NOTHING is grainy! Guaranteed! Okay... 12 Megapixels may is not enough for some wedding photographer. But honestly: The resolution is high enough ;-)

    So as an eg say I’m taking a studio portrait with the flash on and the subject is staying still would that then be anything above 1 / 125 and anything above F7 for a sharp still image and then I can have ISO at 100 because of studio flash. Is it that way of thinking?

    Little correction: higher iso does not mean more light. The amount of light hitting the sensor stays the same but the signal (including the noise) gets boosted. Increasing the iso has basically the same effect on your image as brightening it up afterwards in photoshop.
    The only ways to control the amount of actual light hitting the sensor are aperture and shutter speed.

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Correct. Thank you for adding that explanation. I tend to explain things from a very layman's terms so while you're not "actually getting more light" it does make your photos bright. Trying to keep it simple for folks to understand. Then when they're learnt on the subject they can start getting more advanced.

    Only critique I’d say is to always aim to shoot for the base ISO. You want the least amount of grain as possible

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It’s true. However I feel a lot of photographers (when starting) end up making more mistakes because they’re trying to be at base ISO all of the time for a “perfect” photo rather than just doing what is necessary for a correct exposure.

  • @tedbrown7908
    @tedbrown7908 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If your camera has a meter then follow the meter position and adjust to that. no need to learn about the exposure triangle.

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd HIGHLY dissagree. Mainly because there's multiple ways to get a "correct" exposure however the artistic differences can very HIGHLY. I could use my meter and it looks right but my ISO is at 80000 so my photo because extremley grainy. Or my shutter could be at 1/2 and my photo would be totally blurry. But the meter would be right regardless. Understanding the artistic side and attributes of the exposure triangle is something EVERY photographer needs to know/understand.

  • @Ankansrihalder2020
    @Ankansrihalder2020 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Bro You must be a good photographer but taking Iso as your base thing makes no sense.. setting aperture and Shutter speed .. are the base thing . With respect with type of photography ... Sports photography is A game of Shutter speed . Capturing a car at 100km/s the shutter. Speed go upto 1/1000ss where you need to boost the Iso.. I am not agree with you .. but well this is your .. procedure ..

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This comment is arguing semantics. Obviously depending on the type of photography you're shooting effects which setting matters most. In sports you need higher shutter speed. However, you can still start with your ISO. If you know your shutter speed needs to be higher you can probably assume the ISO is also going to be higher unless it's super bright outside. How you go about finding the settings literally makes no difference. It's more about understanding what each part of your settings effects in your image.
