I bought my crosstrek sport about 2 months ago and I love it. I test drove the forester as well. I had trouble deciding on which one to get. I liked them both. I chose the crosstrek because it had the same engine as the forester, was much lighter, and handled a little better. I’m sure I’d be happy with either one. I am equally confused. I was pretty set that the Crosstrek Sport would be the smartest move. I can throw my bike on the back and top. While I think about sleeping in the back... I think I have done that once ever in my life. It seems like you can save about $5k and still get more for your buck in features if you give up some head space in the backseat and a few inches in storage choosing the Crosstrek.
Test drove the same equipped pair. Fortunately drove the Crosstrek first, would have sworn the Forester was towing a trailer. No comparison for me, went with the Crosstrek. Still smile when ever I look at it in the driveway.
Test drove the Crosstrek, then bought the Forester without even test driving it. The driving experience is very similar but the Forester is much easier for me to get my old ass into and out of.
Bought my 2020 Forester Sport (same options as one in video) last October and if I had to choose between these two I think I’d make the same decision again. As a travel nurse I never know how much stuff I’ll need to haul.
My last two cars were used Foresters. I love them and look forward to buying a real, new one very soon. Living in deeply rural Ireland, they are perfect. Shopping trips are always less frequent, so bigger and there’s the dog. I love them!
I'm 6' 2", so the Forester is the obvious choice for me. And the cargo area is much more useable, especially since there will be a Labrador Retriever running around back there. But the Sport is just an appearance package with no added value. I'm picking up my Wilderness edition in a week or two, as soon as it shows up at my dealer.
Crosstrek 2019 manual here. If a manual was offered in the 21 Crosstrek 2.5 . I would step up this one time and take a hit. I purchase my cars and keep awhile. I have to say the close ratio granny gear and lower 2nd gear in my Crosstrek makes it a rev master. 1 & 2nd are short -3rd gear plateaus -4 & 5th short/quick great for urban driving and 6th tall freeway. Last car was an A3 manual base. Sold it to my son at 130k miles. Perfect size for S.F. The Crosstrek even with the 152hp is nimble, same steering pinion gear as the BRZ standard and optional adjustable front strut bar. You hit 60mph in 2nd gear before u have to shift to 3rd. It makes it a blast during spirited driving. A gear ratio for every driving style. Perfect gearbox for a pocket rocket feel ala Si yet glides and eats up the road on laid back runs. 6-speeds a keeper.. Made it just in time!...🚦 🛣 ↪️🔀↩️ 🛫💯
I guess the reason they stopped putting manual transmissions in these newer cars is because they aren't compatible with the the safety features like automatic emergency Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control since the vehicle can't disengage the clutch on its own when stopping. Plus automatic transmissions are more efficient now and get better fuel economy than manual transmissions.
Great review, it really helped seeing both cars side by side. Crosstrek def looks more appealing but seems like you can’t go wrong with either choices.
Nice video, I just Bought the Forester Sport...great Suv. In Mexico the Crosstek is called XV and it comes only on 2.0...there some gossip than in 2021 for the model 2022 the XV will come in 2.5 Engine and then I will buy it. Subaru rocks!! Reliable, safe with great value cars.
I decided to go with a Forester sport because of the head space and cargo space. For me the Crosstrek was just a bit small for my liking. Both are fun vehicles but the Forester just fits all my needs. I love it.
I purchased a 21 Limited Crosstrek in December, but I've had a 21 Limited Forester for a week as a loaner while the dealer does some paint work for me.. and I'm regretting my choice a bit. The extra space, especially in the trunk, as well as some interior things are making me really reconsider my choice. I think I'm going to try to hold out for a couple years though, until it's paid off, and consider trading it in for a Forester after. At least get my money's worth out of it, especially how hard it is to get any new cars right now.
Crosstrek easier when driving on rain because the windshield is more angle so the rains flow faster when forester struggling on wiping off the rain drops. Crosstrek drive smothers then Forester on Freeway, of course when more than 70MPH, because of aerodynamic shape. But I’m growing to like Forester, and growing to dislike Crosstrek. 1.Easier to sleep in Forester then Crosstrek, by the way I mean ways..... easier. 2.Crosstrek seat is really uncomfortable, no lumbar support limited adjustment then forester. 3.Trunks spare way too small on Crosstrek duo to drive he rear door sporty shape, forester is bigger plus under floor space.**** 4.In and out easier in Forester, I almost can just jump in, while I have to watch out my head not to hit the he roof of Crosstrek. 5. Your passenger high of more 5’7” hardly fit in the backseat of Crosstrek, his hair will brush clean your roof, well if your want them too 6. Ect.
I put Rain-X on my Forester windshield. I don't even need to use the wipers at all when it rain especially on the freeway. Everyone else's wipers are going 100mph and they're wondering why I can drive without using the wipers.
Thanks for the video! I ordered my 2021 Crosstrek Outdoor 2 weeks ago and still waiting for it (They said it's still somewhere in pacific ocean) and the dealership gave me a loaner vehicle which is 2021 Forester and been using it since last Sunday! Now i dunno if i'm staying with Crosstrek as I fall in love with this Forester! Great room and more solid.
I chose the 2021 Crosstrek limited with the 2.5. Difference being it has led headlights, leather seats, auto rear break/detection, blind spot monitoriing, etc.
For those wishing for manual transmission, I get you. But they are becoming rare partially because of safety and driver assist features. Much easier to do automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise with an automatic.
Other systems like eyesight and Emerg braking are not opts I would want on a vehicle just yet. The lane assist pulling at the wheel while I’m avoiding a squirrel or setting an apex on a curve would rattle my focus. Not a safety measure for me just yet. A manual for engine braking and the excellent greenhouse view the Crosstrek premium has is why I purchased it.
@@omegalamda3145 Adaptive cruise is fantastic. I would never buy another car without is. AEB also very likely saved me from an accident. Personally I Iike lane keep assist, but if you find it intrusive you can turn it off. Eyesight and similar packages from other manufacturers are fantastic.
The Crosstrek is smaller, with similar powertrain/drivetrain and options. It weighs less, will be peppier, probably handle better, cost less, and get better MPG. The Forester can tow a little more and has more space. I prefer the aesthetics of the Crosstrek. We have a rooftop box and bags for our Crosstrek, so cargo space isn't an issue on roadtrips for us. We also have a hitch. We have a 7pass V6 SUV for towing heavier stuff or hauling more people. We can rent a big truck occasionally, if needed. The Crosstrek can get WAY better MPG hwy though. Our Crosstrek can tow 2 dualsports, ATVs, waverunners, a tiny teardrop, a utility trailer, or even a Potter 15 cabin boat. The Forester might be able to handle a MacGregor 19 cabin boat for local trips. A 3000lb Mac 26 would require an Outback or beefier.
I like the Forester but I can't get it in a manual. On the other hand, I can get the Crosstrek in a manual but it doesn't come with the 30 additional horsepower. That sucks. So I still don't know what to get. If the forester came in a manual it would be an easy decision. I prefer a manual transmission.
Depends on your budget really I'm personally going with the crosstrek limited because I can at least get a better ride for alot cheaper and still alot of features
me too, in white pearl, looks awesome! and I have a Crosstrek in silver and it looks better, I would choose Crosstrek for daily driving, it moves faster, more agile and relaxed, and Forester for family vacation and more adventure, Subaru great cars! no questions about it
I am actually looking at both of these vehicles for 2021, I am also very confused? The one thing I will say, I am 54 years old and the eyesight is starting to go at night so for me, a definite selling point would be the Forrester because you can get the sport with the adaptive headlights LEDs, as opposed to those crappy halogens that I currently have in my 2018 Subaru Impreza Sport. And if you have to go up to the limited, to get the better Headlights, then I think the Forester is a better choice..
We just reserved the Forester, same silver color over the cross trek. The Cargo in the crosstrek just was too small for traveling, even thought it’s only a few times a year, I’m sure we would have regretted it. We thought of ding the roof cargo thing, but it was almost a grand, and we were entering the forester price. Plus the dealership had a educator discount, which was awesome!
Superb comparison indeed. Enjoyed it very much and look forward to more. I'm in the market for a 20/21 Forester, I own an '18 which it's been flawlessly reliable. I need HID headlights though, and believe it or not that's one of the most important reasons for my wanting to trade. As on a side, I'm apprehensive about all the techno stuff Subaru has put into the Forester. Mine also has stuff but nothing comparable to the new model. Too many buttons and switches and functions that come standard, Be that as it may, thank you for your review/comparison of these two models!
If I was Suburu (I know they are ultra conservative & hardly change), but on the Forester for what you pay at least have the cubie storage above the glove box like the Outback. On this SPORT I'd also change out the Steering Wheel to be Orange Leather to match the orange stitching & Air Vents, etc. On the brown leather Nappa leather upgrade (Touring) I'd also change out the steering wheel to the same color of brown leather, illuminated lighting on all knobs, ambienant lighting on the floorboard & cubie. Things that wouldn't break the bank, but would definitely spice this car up. As an older man I like the Forester, but I also like the upgrades Outback has that Forester lacks. Another reason I'm torn between Outback, Forester & Santa Fe. Crosstrek is okay but way to small for my needs. I still have my 2014 V6 Honda Accord, but I'm ready to make a change.
I got the forester sport due to the extra foot between the back of the front seat and back hatch so it’ll be easier to camp in. Also the forester sat up higher which I liked due to me always having a pickup.
Agree, think the liberal use orange does fit the mission of the sport trim on the Forester so it looks okay. Do you think the Star Tex fabric is more comfortable than leather?
Personally I wouldn't say it's more or less comfortable. Allegedly the StarTex is cooler in hot weather and warmer in cold weather, but I haven't owned a car with it so I cannot confirm or deny the accuracy of that.
I bought the crosstrek and I dont see my self paying more for a bigger slower car. The forester definitely needs an xt! I'm happy with crosstrek power with 2.5 litre!
I cant find anywhere on Subaru’s website saying that the crosstrek has the same engine as the forester. Yes they have the same displacement but the forester has the turbo version on that motor.
I've solved your dilemma: get an Outback. It has better (wider) cargo space than the Forester (plus massive driving range) and the drivability of the Crosstrek.
I personally would rather have halogens. The reason for that is 2 fold. First is they generate heat. In very cold climates/seasons this mitigates the potential for the "glazing" that can happen when sleet/freezing rain occurs. The next is cost. Once the vehicle is out of warranty it is much more wallet friendly to replace a halogen bulb than the led light not to mention if the steering reponsive capabilities of the light goes south they are very costly. Price replacements for yourself. If the stock halogens are not bright enough to burn the retinas of on coming traffic for you there are more than enough aftermarket bulb options to get ya where ya wanna be.
Jonathan Losito only with the 2L motor, not the new 180hp one. I wish they would offer it with the WRX setup of 268hp 6sp. Lift kit and light bar!! Away we go!!
just picked up a 2021 black crosstrek sport. im 21 bought it just to take up to the snow for snowboarding so dont need a huge suv. only thing i dont like is the headlights they are a bit weak. Thinking about ordering a $70 dollar led headlights off amazon.
Frumpy + Practical = Forester..."Sport" or otherwise. Opposite for Crosstrek. "Driving experience?" Not Zoom Zoom. That would be another's niche. Don't even go there with these two. LOL! FWIW, Subaru KNOWS their target market on Forester. Just check out the sales figures...and for corporate, in the end, THAT is what matters most.
I'm not a car person, but changing out the bulbs to the fog lights and headlights in the Crosstrek sport to LED bulbs wouldn't be too difficult, would it? Great video comparison. Would have liked to know your thoughts on headroom and legroom. I heard the crosstrek sport is about 2 inches less headroom if it has a sunroof?
Swapping out the standard bulbs for LED bulbs is not difficult, but it certainly will not replicate the factory LED headlights. It's going to look like exactly what it is: something you did in your driveway with a $45 kit off of eBay. As far as headroom goes I'm 6'5" and the moonroof has never bothered me one way or the other, I fit fine with or without. Legroom is decent in the Crosstrek, a bit better in Forester.
@@CarDietrich I am 5 11. Really looking at the Crosstrek as a poor man's Outback, but does it feel cramped to you at your height. I am coming from an old 2012 Prius v wagon.
When I filmed this the 2021 Forester wasn't out yet, but it is basically the same as the 2020 models, only new feature for 2021 will be adaptive headlights as standard. If you want more depth on Forester, I got you covered: Trim level differences: th-cam.com/video/2X-NPv1tHSg/w-d-xo.html Base model review: th-cam.com/video/eSoPlK2AfAA/w-d-xo.html Forester Sport details: th-cam.com/video/EJbd2AJgI6o/w-d-xo.html
If forester came in the cool and fun colors the crosstrek did (or something fitting that car body), I think I might be sold. But they don't. And I want that blue. But the Forester has more features I want! Yeah, I haven't made any progress on deciding. 😭
Well, here's some unsolicited advice: lease the Crosstrek you want for three years, get it out of your system, and when that's over buy a Forester to replace it.
The front end is nice on the forester. The side view looks like a minivan on the forester. The back of the forester is beyond ugly. I hope in 2024 they look better.
Yea the new forester design is strange. Subaru always maintains that quirky design haha. I always thought the 2017 xt model was the best looking ever. I don’t understand why they strayed so far from that look.
Well that certainly is a point in the Forester's favor, but if you really want a Crosstrek don't let the 2.0 scare you off. It is a little bit slower but it will still get you where you need to go.
Well, when in doubt buy them both lol. I just got a 21 Crosstrek and my wifey got a 20 Forester Sport. I like the way my crosstrek drives and personally the look once I add wheels and tires. I prefer the Crosstrek interior by far. However, it feels nice in the Forester. She had LED everything. Push button to close hatch, and we’ll more room for the kids. I just don’t like the cloth mix because one bad Velcro pull and it’s going to be really noticeable. I plan on talking about it on my channel at some point. ✌🏼
Awesome comparison review! You are really gifted, as you have a very good presentation style and you point out all the stuff that is important to me. I am in this exact boat, as I have a 2006 Toyota Sequoia with 203,000 miles on it that needs to get replaced in the next 12 months, and it is either the Crosstrek or Forester. Like you, the Crosstrek wins in the looks department, but I was just at my local Subaru dealer this past Saturday, and the Crosstreks and Foresters were lined up across from each other, so it gave me the ability to sit in one and then immediately sit in the other. For visibility front and back (which is important to me) the nod definitely goes to the Forester, but that's not surprising as it's boxier and has bigger rear windows--the Crosstrek just feels more cramped (I am 6 ft 1in tall and 180 pounds), and although I don't need all the room the Forester offers, it would be nice have for those Home Depot runs, taking friends with, etc. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. Bugs me that Subaru won't put Startex in the Forester Sport, as I have dogs that shed and fabric is a no-go, so I'll have to go with the Limited, unfortunately, to get the easier to clean leather.
Thank you for watching I'm glad you enjoyed it! If I were to put my salesman hat on, I would tell you to go with the Forester. Reason I say this is that you're coming out of a Sequoia and so you're used to a larger vehicle, obviously either a Crosstrek or a Forester will be smaller, but a Forester will be "less smaller" if that makes sense, so I think it would work better for you. Just my two cents.
The Forester used was actually a brand new 2020 model, but there is almost no change to the 2021 Forester aside from the addition of adaptive headlights that turn with the steering wheel at night.
Personally Im going to wait for the 2022 or 2023 Crosstrek. Hoping it adds standard LED headlights and. The infotainment system from the Outback On a side note the gold reminds me of an homage to the gold wheels on WRXs
Subaru going to change the forester engine for 2022 I believe the 220 plus torque ok the new Japan/levorg engine. So I would wait for 2022 to see if they bring it to Merica..I bought a 2020 ice silver one just like this one with the 8 inch/9 speaker and harmon cardon amplifer..the only other color I would get is white. That what just hits different..however I got this one and love it cus you don't see that many ice silvers on the road. I also used aftermarket carbon fiber trim piece to douse on that orange cus I don't like all that orange. Now it looks high quality. Admittingly though I don't need that much space lol...now I got to create a Christian Mingle to find a family to fill it up. I think I would go crosstrek only for a small family of no more than 3..and Forester for family of 4 with maybe a dog.. because the price is damn near very close..from what I remember..so if you're looking just get 2020 or 2019...I think the only difference in the first model 2019 is it doesn't give you phone options to start your vehicle from my Subaru application. So once again I'd get crosstrek for small family or single person...and used 2019 forester sport if I had a bigger family or just was sold on the forester. If you really have to have speed then wait for 2022 possible release or just grab the 2020 onyx xt outback...
I haven't done a video where I drive them back to back, but here's a test drive video of a 2021 Crosstrek Sport: th-cam.com/video/i5PNngHliv4/w-d-xo.html And here's my review of a 2020 Forester where I drive it: th-cam.com/video/eSoPlK2AfAA/w-d-xo.html
I just bought the Forester in the same color. On youtube it looks so so. But in person, these vehicles look more sexy. Even the Impreza looks as good as a lexus when you're at the dealer.
Someone said Forester is a dated appearance. I disagree. The Forester updated in 2019. In my opinion, the Forester hands down. Both are great cars. But the price is so close to the same. The moon roof and more interior space is what gives the advantage to the forester.
For the Crosstrek, I think you missed the added trim in the front corners near the fog lights. The black wheel fender trims are also a different shape than the other models (taller and more squared off).
Thank you for a well balanced & unbiased review. Is it possible to order a lifted Crosstrek with Method rims & larger tyres from the dealership? Stay safe.
You can't order these items from the factory, most dealers will add the wheels for you if you want them (not free of course) but a lift is a little different because it may void warranties on things like the suspension and drive shafts.
The biggest factor here guys is the fact that the Crosstrek is 55 cu ft of space and the Forrester is 76 cu ft. This is a 27% difference in interior space. The rest of the differences are minimal but MAY be important to you. 6 inches longer, 4-5k cost difference, 2 MPG in the city difference (they both have 33mpg for why regardless of the crosstrek's aerodynamic shape), handling better on crosstrek, looks.. subjective? For those negatives, you're getting a whopping 27% increase in space inside for very minor aspects that may or may not be important to you.
In a lot of ways that Crosstrek is a rip off. Why not offer Navigation, Nicer upper gauges, LED headlights and fogs? MANUAL with the 2.5.???? ETC. I was in my dealer there other day and when I heard no navigation, I was dumfound. I am actually holding off buying one because I would suspect that Subaru might just make those offerings mid year if not then 2022. I would be very mad if I bought one, and then they did offer at least some of what I mentioned. That is just a JOKE. As of now, one might go with the Limited and option it up as close to that as you can. I forgot 17 inch wheels on the sport and 18 on the Limited???????????? WHAT UP STOOP-A-ROU??????????
It's very unlikely any of those things will be added to Crosstrek Sport anytime soon, save for maybe LED headlights. This is probably not the right car for you, and that's ok! There's lots of other great options out there on the market
@@CarDietrich It bothers me a little, because for an entry level car, (30K)? If Subaru is concerned about safety (LED lights, Navigation etc) then they should be at least an option. This is 2021 not 1995. I will probably be buying one over the Forester only because of power and handling. If they do offer more options in a year or so, I will just trade it in and get one. Simple. We are only considering it as a "extra" car as my FJ Cruiser is going up in value and I don't want to drive it as much.
No that's an accessory on any Forester, sometimes they come with it already (this is a "Port Installed Accessory" in Subaru world) but if a car doesn't have it it's super easy to add.
@Jonathan Losito. That's beck of the safety features like automatic emergency braking, and Adaptive Cruise Control. These wouldn't work on a manual transmission. And since the cvt transmissions are more efficient with better fuel economy, they may faze out the manual transmissions in the crosstrek after 2021 since they are implementing the same safety features that the Forester has.

3.Trunks spare way too small on Crosstrek duo to drive he rear door sporty shape, forester is bigger plus under floor space.****
4.In and out easier in Forester, I almost can just jump in, while I have to watch out my head not to hit the he roof of Crosstrek.
5. Your passenger high of more 5’7” hardly fit in the backseat of Crosstrek, his hair will brush clean your roof, well if your want them too
Honestly I think at the end of the day that's probably the one I would choose myself. I approve, for whatever that's worth lol.
Went with the Crosstrek Outdoor (Canada). My kids are grown up so I don't use the back seats.
For those wishing for manual transmission, I get you. But they are becoming rare partially because of safety and driver assist features. Much easier to do automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise with an automatic.
Fuel economy is better with modern automatics as well. And oh yeah, most importantly, that's what people who buy new cars want to buy.
My wife drives a Legacy. The Cvt is descent, paddle shifts are executed well. Yet as a daily I prefer the 6-speed stick.
Lol, I though it was because of the auto stop start system.
I got a forester sport in crystal pearl white, looks way better.
I got a 2019 base model same color. Didn't need Xmode since I'm not planning on taking it off road. All wheel drive is great though.
I just got the same Subaru Sport in Crystal pearl white as well!
me too, in white pearl, looks awesome! and I have a Crosstrek in silver and it looks better, I would choose Crosstrek for daily driving, it moves faster, more agile and relaxed, and Forester for family vacation and more adventure, Subaru great cars! no questions about it
Nobody cares
I am actually looking at both of these vehicles for 2021, I am also very confused? The one thing I will say, I am 54 years old and the eyesight is starting to go at night so for me, a definite selling point would be the Forrester because you can get the sport with the adaptive headlights LEDs, as opposed to those crappy halogens that I currently have in my 2018 Subaru Impreza Sport. And if you have to go up to the limited, to get the better Headlights, then I think the Forester is a better choice..
I’ll pick the Forester hands down. And I’m really hoping Subaru incorporates the Outback XT engine on the ‘21 Forester
me too, i have a 07 forester xt 187, 000 original miles but i also want a new forester turbo xt
Just the opposite for me. I hate the look of the Forrester, and it is way heavier thus slower then the crosstrek.
Jeff Spehar I need/like the family space in the Forester, plus is bigger/stronger. But to each their own 👍🏻
We just reserved the Forester, same silver color over the cross trek.
Yakima Load Warrior is less than half of the price you quoted for a cargo basket.
Thanks for your so honest and natural review...I enjoyed it.
The price is the same. I chose the Forester. It is,a larger and heavier vehicle. The crosstrek is better looking. But the Forester is more practical.
Great review, I needed the info! Thanks!
2022 Crosstrek Limited is a winner!
I bought the crosstrek and I dont see my self paying more for a bigger slower car. The forester definitely needs an xt! I'm happy with crosstrek power with 2.5 litre!
I am in the same dilemma. Get a limited crosstrek or a Sport Forrester.
I bought Subaru crossover GT limited edition. It fun and comfy
I cant find anywhere on Subaru’s website saying that the crosstrek has the same engine as the forester. Yes they have the same displacement but the forester has the turbo version on that motor.
No the current Forester does not have a turbo. It may at some point in the future but for 2020/2021 it's a non-turbo 2.5 liter with 182 horsepower
hardworkrr12 on cars thanks for the clarification. I miss heard him in the beginning. No wonder I am so confused.
I've solved your dilemma: get an Outback. It has better (wider) cargo space than the Forester (plus massive driving range) and the drivability of the Crosstrek.
I agree with you.
Getting Outback is the answer.
Forester for sure...!!!
Forester sport needs a manual transmission option
and turbo engine
Manual sales have tanked.
I can't decide either no matter no matter how many reviews I watch...
Just flip a coin
Both are fine looking rides. The Crosstrek needs a 6speed.
Forrester doesnt have a manual trans either.
Jonathan Losito only with the 2L motor, not the new 180hp one. I wish they would offer it with the WRX setup of 268hp 6sp. Lift kit and light bar!! Away we go!!
Thanks for the videos where you drove similar cars
You're welcome!
just picked up a 2021 black crosstrek sport. im 21 bought it just to take up to the snow for snowboarding so dont need a huge suv. only thing i dont like is the headlights they are a bit weak. Thinking about ordering a $70 dollar led headlights off amazon.
I bought a 2020 Forest Sport and I love it!! The Crosstrek is nice but I needed the extra space and I love the orange on the forester.
Enjoy your new Forester Lauren! Thank you for watching 😃
Does the 2021 Sport trim level now get the 'C' shaped LED DRLs that come on the higher Limited & Touring trim levels?
No that feature is still on Limited or Touring models only
Love my 2020 forester but man I should’ve waited for the 2021 I wanna go fast 😆
Lol see ya in the slow lane
@@DUNGSTA probably would still smoke u though
Lmfao yeah ok
I can only hope the Forester will get the FA24 XT version when the new STI drops. I can only hope so much.
I’m getting the forester for more room
For ground clearance, which one is higher? Thank you
Forester Sport and Crosstrek Sport have Identical ground Clearance at 8.7 inches. Forester Wilderness has a little more at 9.2 inches.
I wish you had been more indept with the forester 2021. I appreciate the video nonetheless. Thank you🙏🏾
When I filmed this the 2021 Forester wasn't out yet, but it is basically the same as the 2020 models, only new feature for 2021 will be adaptive headlights as standard.

For me road noise levels would make the difference shame he did not mention which is quite
If forester came in the cool and fun colors the crosstrek did (or something fitting that car body), I think I might be sold. But they don't. And I want that blue. But the Forester has more features I want! Yeah, I haven't made any progress on deciding. 😭
Well, here's some unsolicited advice: lease the Crosstrek you want for three years, get it out of your system, and when that's over buy a Forester to replace it.
can't go wrong with either.
Do they both have the same ground clearance? We have an Impreza now & looking for more clearance.
Yes 8.7 inches ground clearance for both Forester and Crosstrek
The front end is nice on the forester. The side view looks like a minivan on the forester. The back of the forester is beyond ugly. I hope in 2024 they look better.
Yea the new forester design is strange. Subaru always maintains that quirky design haha. I always thought the 2017 xt model was the best looking ever. I don’t understand why they strayed so far from that look.
México only has crosstreck 2.0, do you think that makes the choice lean more to the forester?
You should, do a real-world ownership comparison. People would find it interesting.
Still not available with a WRX or STi package.
Crosstrek is just a better drivers car. It’s lower and feels so much better
good pick both sports vs

Long story short: family = forester
What year is the forester that you using on this review? 2021 or 2019? I couldn’t understand in the beginning.
The Forester used was actually a brand new 2020 model, but there is almost no change to the 2021 Forester aside from the addition of adaptive headlights that turn with the steering wheel at night.
hardworkrr12 on cars ok thanks. I liked the color too.
Crosstrek lost me with ugly 90s gold trim and antique halogen headlights. For water lost me with giant useless glass roof. Should be an option
Just me - so I chose the Crosstrek. If I had to haul family - then the Forester.
Personally Im going to wait for the 2022 or 2023 Crosstrek. Hoping it adds standard LED headlights and. The infotainment system from the Outback
On a side note the gold reminds me of an homage to the gold wheels on WRXs
Maybe a crosstreck wilderness. Hopefully.
Can anyone explain why the forester doesn’t have the same towing capacity as the outback?
Only thing I can attribute it to is that the Outback has slightly larger brakes.
Wheel arch cladding and front bumper (specifically fog light area) are more beefy/aggressive on the Crosstrek Sport as well.
Did you drive these vehicles? Did I miss a video where you drove them?
I haven't done a video where I drive them back to back, but here's a test drive video of a 2021 Crosstrek Sport:
th-cam.com/video/i5PNngHliv4/w-d-xo.html
And here's my review of a 2020 Forester where I drive it:
th-cam.com/video/eSoPlK2AfAA/w-d-xo.html
Ground clearance ?
8.7" on both vehicles
Cant go wrong for both. but we choose forester its way bigger
Crosstrek. Cheaper and same drivetrain and forester is a lot of unusable vertical space.
I like this take. Forester a little TOO vertical? Maybe 🤔
Almost 4 inches more leg room in back in forester though.
I think you just helped me feel better about choosing the CT!
Thank you for the comparison. You think the dealership would have at least given the two cars a wash. Just saying.
I'm going to get the forester, Or the outback. Sucks they don't offer the outback sport.
They do in Japan! Lol
Forester fender guards/flares should be a little larger
The Crosstrek is much nicer looking.. Perfect for NYC.
Forester looks outdated and a old man's suv
I just bought the Forester in the same color. On youtube it looks so so. But in person, these vehicles look more sexy. Even the Impreza looks as good as a lexus when you're at the dealer.
Someone said Forester is a dated appearance. I disagree. The Forester updated in 2019. In my opinion, the Forester hands down. Both are great cars. But the price is so close to the same. The moon roof and more interior space is what gives the advantage to the forester.
I love the forester for the more room and orange trim because that’s my favorite color
There could not be a better reason to spend $30K
For the Crosstrek, I think you missed the added trim in the front corners near the fog lights. The black wheel fender trims are also a different shape than the other models (taller and more squared off).
Thank you for a well balanced & unbiased review. Is it possible to order a lifted Crosstrek with Method rims & larger tyres from the dealership? Stay safe.
You can't order these items from the factory, most dealers will add the wheels for you if you want them (not free of course) but a lift is a little different because it may void warranties on things like the suspension and drive shafts.
@@CarDietrich
Thank you for the feedback
I'm so happy that gawd awful yellow/gold didn't make it to the Forster.
I'm so happy that gawd awful orange didn't make it to the Crosstrek.
I actually find it refreshing they have added some color. If i was to buy a new crosstrek i would get the plasma yellow
FORESTER SPORT hands down!
Substance VS looks. The age old dilemma. LoL
The lack of manual transmission is on all models confuses me and is making me look elsewhere, even though I really wanted a Subaru.
You can get a stick shift on base and Premium Crosstrek, just not sport or limited.
@@CarDietrich Yes, and I find the fact that manual isn't available on a "sport" model a poor and confusing decision.
Just out of curiosity, what are you going to buy?
@@CarDietrich not sure yet.
Are the rear seat back protector standard on the Forester Sport?
No that's an accessory on any Forester, sometimes they come with it already (this is a "Port Installed Accessory" in Subaru world) but if a car doesn't have it it's super easy to add.
Crosstrek because it still retains the hydraulic handbrake!
