This is probably the best "driving vid" I've seen as it puts you pretty close to the drivers eye view. Plus, all of the sounds remind me of my CX, which I haven't driven for quite some time. Can't believe that it is 4 yrs since I posted that reply. STILL haven't got mine back on the road BUT, I had to quickly move it to a new home as it's garage and home of the past 10 yrs was getting pulled down.
Unbelievably, after not being started for 10 years, given a new battery and £16 of super unleaded, it started and came up on it's suspension. Amazing.
That's it, I'm now in the process of having it moved to a garage to have it mechanically recommissioned. I will then look into having the body done. Good point, it hasn't seen any salt for the past 16 years!

@@eymanyouwell Hi and thanks for the interest. The car is, as we speak, at a garage being "re-commissioned". Taking a bit longer than expected, but no big deal.
@@eymanyouwell Very pleased to report that I picked my CX up last July and drove it the 150 miles home with no problems. Still a few things to sort out and the bodywork to tidy up. Amazed at how much attention it gets! Looking forward to putting a few miles on it this summer.
And also, last July, cycled up to southern Sweden to pick up an SM I had bought last Jan.
Citroën: the best french car brand. The only original french touch.

Great car..modern cars are such a dissapointment when you know they could be this comfortable, every car in 2018 should have hydropneaumatic spheres and active anti roll which would be easy and cost effective with modern manufacturing techniques..but consumers dont seem to care they are quite happy feeling every bump in their new car..wierd...
Could not agree more. It seems consumers want "aggressive" cars with "handling." They also want non-stop "infotainment" that takes their attention from the road, and they also love an abundance of plastic everywhere. Not too many people understand or care about real comfort, elegance of style and true driving functionality.
paulparoma Yes "agressive handling" seems to equate with a solid ride, yet in racing active suspension was banned because it gave too much advantage. The Citroen Xantia activa had amazing cornering ability. The only modern car to use it is Maclaren supercars which people find have an amazing ride and grip mainly because of its active anti roll...I think it also has spheres but I dont know how the springing works on that car. People are less intelligent and less practical than in years gone by so I guess any mecahnical sophistication would be lost on them. Some cars still use drum brakes and torsion beam suspension YUKK!

I don't know if there is a moderately-priced car out there that offers a smooth ride, roomy interior and really good overall comfort. What I find puzzling is that, while there are far more older people in the developed world today than ever before, the automakers don't seem interested in offering them any products. Cars are tight with a stiff ride, difficult to see out of, difficult to get in and out of, the seats are small etc. As for drum brakes and torsion bars, if they work well, there is nothing wrong with using them. After all, how much "performance" do most people need on their daily trips to the supermarket?
paulparoma Older people in Australia mainly drive SUV or 4WD so I guess that is their solution to getting a roomy vehicle with more suspension travel for negotiating speed bumps etc...Yes drum brakes and torsion beams are okay for short trips I guess but it could be so much better. I used to drive DS Citroens and I loved the way the whole car squatted down at the back when braking pushing the tyres into the road

Interesting. I am not old enough to have owned or driven a Citroen in the US, but I did try a C6 in France a couple of years ago (and I also sat in a CX in 1985 in the Champs Elysee showroom:). The C6 was a little disappointing. As for new cars, it seems the automakers, instead of offering truly useful things such as great suspensions and efficient interiors with comfortable seats, are focusing on 12-in displays with Facebook integration, among other silly garbage. What is the advantage of having A/C controls integrated into the stupid display? To make a one-step process a five-step process? Of course, if you follow the money, you will find all the answers.:)
Driving this car at high speed is incredible !
The steering is so hard that you can't make false maneuvers, this is really secure.
I like it how the bells hardly penetrated the environment of the car and I miss these types of cars from Citroen!

Great video! I had a lovely 1987 CX 25 GTi Turbo 2 which I drove everywhere no matter how short or long the journey as well as going out for late night/early morning drives across several counties (usually lasting between 3 to 6 hours) as it was such an enjoyable and fun car to drive. Excellent suspension and it was like being in a boat - the bumps are there on the sea bed but you don't feel them. I remember the evening just after I bought it - I took a friend out for a drive and she told me I was doing 105mph. I didn't even notice as it felt like I was doing 70 (my previous car to the CX was a Mk2 Golf). I did 130mph in it one night when I got challenged into a race by a Vauxhall Calibra.
What a treat. This is the daring, modern interior design before the interior was made more conventional. The road is so pleasant, normal drive, no silly testing the limits or accelerations, just a cruise in a quiet, what seems like very smooth riding unique car on smooth roads in a pretty town.
I had a rush of blood to the head around this era, sold my Volvo estate & invested in a second hand one of these. It was certainly exciting & with a great performance. I even drove it from York to Gibralter & back for our annual holiday, with my wife, & our two daughters in the back. One day I was dozing in the front passenger seat with my wife driving south towards Toulouse, when I heard the engine tone go higher & higher. I opened my eyes & said - "What are you doing - what are you doing". She answered - 107mph. It was an amazing car in all respects, bar one: the front seats were dreadful. They felt cheap & nasty on my skinny backside. We later 'downsized' it for a 2CV, which gave excellent service, & took that no further than Lands End!

Je kan een CX pas waarderen als je er 1 gehad hebt. Unieke wegligging, comfort, ruimte vooraan achter en in de kofferbak. Eenvoudige mechaniek, fantastische remmen. Lelijk en roesten maar hè, je kan niet alles hebben, toch?
Een CX is in mijn ogen heel mooi. En de ruimte achterin is ook heel goed. Roesten deden de laatste generaties helemaal niet meer en de ruimte achterin is groot. Bovendien is het mechaniek zeker niet eenvoudig (en storingsgevoelig, helaas). Ik snap niet hoe twee mensen zo verschillend naar één auto kunnen kijken...

The CX was a beautiful car, looked like a spaceship. Sad thing they were so poorly build, like everything else bearing the name Citroen. Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Fiat and Citroen. Door handles breaking off, window levers, electricity faults etc etc. A shame, because DS, CX and XM were so damn beautiful, but didn't stand the test of time, mildly spoken. Literally falling apart and rusting away, as you watched.
Not sure about quality.. I have never had to go to the dealer withe the Citroens to calibrate one of the several software-based functions, pay much money, and then wonder what I have actually paid for...

Hello, I have me too a CX 20 TRE. I just would like to know if the clutch is hard (we have the same engine/gearbox, the Douvrin Engine). I have a new clutch and he's very very hard, and I suppose that the garage who have changed my clutch made a bad work. Sorry for the bad english, but I'm French. In that regard, I would like to know why Dutch people Love love love love Citroën cars ? Perhaps because André Citroën's grandfather was dutch ?
Your English is very good! The clutch and also the gas pedals are not very soft, but I do not have experience with other CXs for a good comparison. You are right: Citroens are very popular in the Netherlands! I don’t know why. Maybe over here, it is a very good alternative to saying “think different” and not follow the masses. Personally, I like a car being totally NOT like my neighbour’s, and I like soft suspension.
How can one dislike the Citroen CX ? It has only qualities ! For me the clutch pedal is very very heavy, it is very hard to press the clutch pedal.
Try to go to a Citroen meeting or a specialist.

Those roads are so tiny.
We have many roads like this in The Netherlands, most of the are not wide enough to put 2 cars on it. In the past, most country roads were roads where you drive 60 km's an hour, and most of them have trees on one or both sides, zo they can be dangeours.

...Besides that both are "fuzzy" when trying to determine the actual speed at which the car it's travelling ;-D

Yes, in the Netherlands we have many roads like this on the country side, sometimes with trees on both sides of the road. These can be dangeours, specily when the farmers make the roads slippery with sand and mud.
