I liked both films, and finally ordered all the books, just now. cant wait to read 'em. These films are way under rated and worth a watch, which means the books are going to be freaking fire.
and wanted is way cool as well, but I am not buying that its the 3rd film. Not sure why or what problems came up with the release of the 3rd but I have waited several years and finally did what I should have long time ago, bought all the books. He is a talented film maker in any case. hope he does more soon. anything.
Thankfully I saw the first movie AFTER reading the first book, therefore I could understand what was going on. It's waay too symbolic to comprehend without the novel. I loved the books, the movies are... just different, but equally weird :)
Wow! Do they have these books translated into american english? Bcz englands english word connotations are similar but very different in their origins. I wasn't aware until a few years ago that there were even novels about this film series. Excellent films in my opinion!
Just read that this movie was made for 4.2 million and made 9 time that at the box office!! With those special scenes to rival the Matrix, that's an amazing accomplishments on a low budget!!
Nightwatch and Daywatch should have gotten way more love in the U.S. I kinda know why it didn't do gangbusters at the box office though. In the U.S. they didn't do the first move right so when they advertised the second people was like "WTF is THIS?!?!" I was one of the lucky few who got to watch Nightwatch first so I knew what was going on...kinda. (don't act like everything was totally clear for you, if you came in unfamiliar with the story like I did.) But honestly by the end of Daywatch I think I got most of it. They do need a third one and Timur should direct it but he said he ain't gonna.
OMG finally! I too was a fan of these films. And yes when they played this trailer in the theatre people were EH???? but not me I went woohoo YES! because I saw the first one and was waiting for this ones release. And being here in LA these films were played in out of the way theatres, BUT I can't complain I was happy they decided to play the original Russian version with the subtitles and not that stupid english dub version. And I became a huge fan of Konstantin Khabensky because of it. These films rocked! Still waiting on the third......I also have these 2 films in DVR, before IFC became the mess of a channel it now is, they played these back to back, the original Russian release like in the theatre. :)
Moondra3 I was digging both these films too. I saw the first one by accident. Back when I had a Blockbuster online acct, I ordered Nightwatch thinking it was this movie I had watched on HBO many years ago staring Rutger Hauer, you know some cheap Sci Fi flick that he seemed to be so prevalent in in the 90's, and was pleasantly surprised by what I got. I was surely not expecting this movie when I popped it in the DVD. So when I saw the trailer on TV for Daywatch (the car drifting on the side of the building scene KILLED IT FOR ME) and it was going to be in the theaters, I knew I had to go see it Day 1. I figured that the trailer alone with the incredible special effects it showed would have been enough to garner at least a respectable crowd in the theater, but I was nearly alone in the movies going to go see it. I figured it was just because I was in Colorado Springs going to go see it and it would have done better in the bigger cities but NOPE! Oh well, it was still one of the highest grossing Russian movies ever so I hope that gets it enough attention to garner interest in at least a final sequel to round out a trilogy. Should maybe call it Duskwatch IDK.
deathskilledreaper Looks like film 3 may be put on hold especially now that the director is committed to doing Ben-Hur with a 2016 release date going to have to wait some more..if it gets done at all! Yup I saw Nightwatch in the theatre it was part of a double feature. I went to see another Russian film called Vedma and Nightwatch played with it. (it had about 20-25 people in theatre.) I was blown away! I got a hold of the books read them, let a friend borrow the books never saw them again :(. And difficult to replace too. I just love these films though, very original. Just nice to see someone else with my enthusiasm rather than running into people that say eh?? with a confused look when I mention these flicks. LOL.
Moondra3 Too bad about not getting a 3rd film for a while if ever. That news sucks! Man I would love to read the books! From What I have gathered the first 2 films are actually the first and second halves of the first book and the third film could be based on any part of the last 2. I think that what really drew me to these films was the unique way that they film and layer the special effects. It gives the films a surreal quality that you don't find in many Hollywood big budget productions. I have to say that even upon rewatching I found the story to have this weird mix of predictability and confusion. The story is pretty straightforward in some ways, such as the good vs evil perspective, but in others such as the motivations of the characters and the sides and grey areas that the characters take and fall into, it can be extremely confusing. I think that the storyline being harder to follow, especially in the second film, may have been what was so off putting to American audiences, even though the special effects were similar to our own big budget summer blockbusters. I still find myself questioning many things in the films to this day like: Are all the vampires on Daywatch's side? What are the ultimate motivations/goal of Gesar and Zavulon, what's the "endgame" so to speak? Is Anton really good? Did his son become a "Great other" and choose the dark still? Even after the big reset at the end of Day Watch? I NEED A THIRD MOVIE!!! These questions are gonna eat at me till I get one.
Dude, the US would never accept any good Russian movie is good only if there won't be shown Russia in a bad light, where all drink vodka and corruption everywhere. Only through such stupid stereotypes can promote Russian film. American rulers like to see some Russian sales Directors dirty unreasonably our country, and for that they get an Oscar from Americans)
It's unfortunate that this movie didn't get the traction it needed to get a third film to finish the franchise... yet we have a ton of Home Alone movies, among other piles of shit that need not be made
As for me I think this movie needs a restart. This universe has so much potential. I just read all Nightwatch books and it could be so badass movies. Like Harry Potter but for adults.
The story consists of 3 books - night watch, day watch and twilight watch. But the writers have combined the last 2 books in 1 movie - day watch. The story is finished.
There was a third film planned but the director postponed it because we wanted to direct the 2008 film "wanted" instead. After he finished directing "wanted" he felt that he couldn't continue direct the third film anymore because it would be too similar to "wanted".
@@arrant638nowadays story consists of 6 books: Night Watch, Day Watch, Twilight Watch, Last Watch, New Watch and 6th Watch, both films are 1st and 2nd part of first book
This movie was actually really crazy tbh and the visuals were amazing as you can tell from the trailer, first thing I've learned is DO NOT LISTEN TO PEOPLE'S OPINIONS about movies, music, food, anything, they're generally always wrong and have no idea what YOU as a person like
I remember watching both of these movies back then. Great series. I didn't know they are based on a book series that expands on the universe a lot more. I'm going to check em out.
There are 4 in total. The night watch The day watch The twilight watch The last watch I only know of the two movie and have not seen them. I've only listened to the audio books. It really is entertaining and captivating.
I LOVE the books!!:)...I have the Night watch and Day Watch movies on dvd and cant wait to watchem!!!!:).....these books have inspired me to travel to Russia!! I dnt really no y I just really love anything to do with russia after reading the books!!!:)
I just finished reading Night Watch and Day Watch in rapid succession. I think Andrew Bromfield did a marvelous job on the translation, although admittedly I can't read the originals. I was surprised and glad to find there are movies, when I turned to the web to buy more books by Sergei Lukyanenko. I wonder if anyone has done sound tracks for the books... His use of lyrics really makes me want to listen to the music as well.
This film was better than Night Watch. Nightwatch was okay. Day Watch was much better. The ending of Day Watch is one of the most memorable endings to a film. Amazing.
I haven't seen this yet but i want to. Especially after i learned that the guy who directed this, Timur, also directed Wanted and i saw that last night... Which was an INCREDIBLE movie...

They fell in love, however, after they both regained power, Igor thought, that Alice twisted his mind with her dark powers and challenged her to a duel. Alice accepts the challenge, but doesn't fight back and drawns in the water under the Magic Press of Igor, after realizing, that the whole thing was a carefully planned action by Zavulon...
I resent that. I am an American and I enjoy learning about cultures other than I my own. That is very interesting about Bekmambetov and I was very sure that Kazahkstan was not shown accurately in Borat. It is worth it to learn other cultures, even though there will always be rotten apples there, just as there are in our home cultures.
This movie differs from the 2nd book and contains only references to the original plot :) though is a masterpiece and has a good story on its own. Btw, read the books :) You won't regret... :) and I'm sure you will understand this movie...
are you for serious? damn! I gotta watch that movie then! I just finished watching Day Watch today and I thought that shit was really DEEP! I got so into the movie that I totally forgot about the beginning of the movie with how it all began.lol
I've only read the first book (Night watch) but I've heard that all these two films are actually based on Night Watch only. Is this true? Because if so I can watch the movies without worrying for spoilers.
I can't imagine the second Watch film being anywhere near as much fun as the first, just as the trailer for the first was much more impressive than the second. Too much footage in this trailer looks like something I'd see in a car commercial.
So what is this director up to now? He could be either in Russia or in Hollywood giving the U.S. entertainment business a run for their money! What is this guy waiting for?! This movie looks badass! Show 'em what you've got man!
This movie is extremely good. It was produced by Timur Bekmenentov (sry bout spelling), who produced Wanted. This movie (and Nightwatch) both have similarities to Wanted, so if you liked that movie then you will definitly like these. But know that they are in Russian. And you SHOULD see Nightwatch first...
Anton isn't framed in night watch, though. Aliza doesn't fall in love with Egor. Everything to the right explains the plot to day watch, as well as why it's called day watch.

I dunno if you noticed, but this is a Russian film. A Russian movie that grossed over $31 million in the United States, after it broke all previous Soviet box office records. The fact that it did that well in the States is just insane; name one other Russian movie you've heard of lately. Most people in this country think that nothing exists outside of this country. This movie got Timur Bekmambetov in the American spotlight enough that 'Wanted' was the very next movie he did.
"Last Watch" Is the name of the fourth book. Twilight Watch would be the title of the third movie but it has no relation to the book on which it is based. Each of the four Night Watch Novels are divided into a section of 3 or 4 stories in each book. The Night Watch and Day Watch movies are based off of the first two stories in the "Night Watch" Novel by Sergei Lukyanenko. So far the movies with the titles of the second and third books have no relation to them other than by name.
Yes this movie is absolutely the best! I don't like this trailer at all. The movie is more easy going, and actually has a story to tell The writing is soooo.... good in this! There are actually some very funny parts too!
i thought they said (when night watch was released) they originally intended to make a trilogy, but they would just end it with 2 movies (night watch & day watch). now im confused will it be 2 or 3 movies? i had to see night watch 2 times because the story isnt clearly told compared to other movies, but its a good movie. i hope day watch will be even better. i might read the books when i find them in store.
Yeah, I agree with that guy; just watch the first one and it's really not that hard to figure out what's going on. Unless for some reason you're watching it in spoken Russian with no English subs. If you don't speak Russian that might explain why it's so hard to follow.
The movie is OK! But it is nothing if you would compare it with the book! The plot is rather more interesting and logical. In the movie it is completely distorted. It is worth to watch when you are common with all the books: "Night Watch", "Day watch", "twilight watch', "Last Watch"
Wow, I did not know what Lukyanenko so popular in America. I agree, great book. And about the movies we have (in Russian) speak not very good. Yes, good effects, nice Kostya ... but somehow muddled. Books better. Some soundtracks are on TH-cam: Серёга "Возле дома твоего" Город 312 Останусь Мел Судьбы или Песня Тамерлана
WARNING, SPOILER ALERT!!! MAY CONTAIN PLOT FROM BOOKS/MOOVIES!!! Yes, she's Alice, she's a dark witch, very skilled at draining mental and life force from others. In the second book she completely lost her power during a fierce fight and was sent to the famous camp and resort, Artek, to regain her power, where she met Igor, a light mage, who also participated in that fight and lost his powers too.
Night watch was a major dissapointment for me. I read the book then watched the movie and it only showed a third of the story from the first book! So what am I to excpect from this one? Also a third of the story in the second book?
I thought the second one was better than the first. And yes, they do have English voiceovers, but you can also choose the original with subtitles if you want.
ok for the record, these movies were cool and did a great job in russia and in the us and if it wasnt for Wanted , the third one would be in production now IN THE US. its already been established its gonna be in english. as for the song living dead girl by marylin manson, no its rob zombie and if you wanna see a kickass video i did to nightwatch, you should check out my profile, its the featured video and its in hd since i used teh blurays to edit with
The Books are very good and i would recommend you read them i however haven't seen the movie but i believe its available with English subtitles. Some of the translation in the books is a bit off but its easy to figure out what it means
when is the next movie going to come out? i remember i watch the night watch by accident and i loved it that i couldn't wait for this one to come out and when it did, it ididn't let me down :D
I watched this movie(1st and 2nd parts) in russian and understood the story, although I didn't read the book. Maybe the english versions were not too good translated?
even after all these years, these movies are still fantastic to watch :D
Night watch is more better

In the second book she completely lost her power during a fierce fight and was sent to the famous camp and resort, Artek, to regain her power, where she met Igor, a light mage, who also participated in that fight and lost his powers too.
whats that song called? starts at 55 seconds
i liked that song in the movie alot, cant find what its called tho :O
And what is with Night Watch, Day Watch.... how many are there? And can it be watched in english?
Great film!
WTF...!! 2:08 that`s amaizing bro! A red car driving in the building .. I have wanted to see ..
you're right
Nightwatch only covered the first story in the book.
Day watch covers the other two, sort of.
Night watch was a major dissapointment for me. I read the book then watched the movie and it only showed a third of the story from the first book! So what am I to excpect from this one? Also a third of the story in the second book?
I thought the second one was better than the first. And yes, they do have English voiceovers, but you can also choose the original with subtitles if you want.
which '-Watch' movie is the best?
Awesome 👊
I dunno but for me day watch/night were huge letdowns, the books are much more complicated and awesome and so less chaotic
does anyone know where to find it online, i saw the first one and read the books, but i can't this one.
What songs are used in this trailer other than “Living Dead Girl”?
Tt 34 jack
There are actually four books. Night Watch, Day Watch, Twilight Watch, and Final Watch.
does anyone know the awesome rock song used for the exciting scenes in this film? its also used in Natch Watch, the previous film
ok for the record, these movies were cool and did a great job in russia and in the us and if it wasnt for Wanted , the third one would be in production now IN THE US. its already been established its gonna be in english. as for the song living dead girl by marylin manson, no its rob zombie and if you wanna see a kickass video i did to nightwatch, you should check out my profile, its the featured video and its in hd since i used teh blurays to edit with
The Books are very good and i would recommend you read them i however haven't seen the movie but i believe its available with English subtitles. Some of the translation in the books is a bit off but its easy to figure out what it means
name of the band is TT-34 great band nice songs nice riffs
Well 'easy-going" isn't quite the right word.
The women here can sure kick ass and drive cars!
Good stuff I just got around to seeing it.. so is Last Watch the 3rd Movie!?!
when is the next movie going to come out? i remember i watch the night watch by accident and i loved it that i couldn't wait for this one to come out and when it did, it ididn't let me down :D
Does anyone know if their will be a third movie? There are two more books.
I watched this movie(1st and 2nd parts) in russian and understood the story, although I didn't read the book. Maybe the english versions were not too good translated?
i read the books
soo now it's maybe time to go see the movies :P i didn't even know there were movies of daywatch and nightwatch :O
Because the film is an entirely new story only with some references to the original plot from the first book... :)
Awsome, does it have a version in english?
@chiponbloc
dude, if you don't listen to the narration, the action is fucking awe inspiring.
too much potential in this film needed more sequals
There is even more potential in the Nightwatch/Daywatch books.
can someone tell me what is the song that came up when Anton uses the chalk for the first time :D
17 years ago???
What is time?
was this one as good as the first?and do they have english voiceovers?
I dunno about the fourth, but the first three are definitely available in English. You could probably find them at a Barnes and Noble.

@TheOneTheOnlyIvan LoTR made sense to me, so is the book come in english?
What's the name of the third movie, if it's been released?
