honestly, I'd be more inclined to believe that the Striders we face on Earth are LESSER than the Nova Striders, cuz they look less augmented. It's fitting that the Combine would only care enough to not commit huge amount of resources for the conquering of Earth.

And if anything, I think striders responsible for overseeing and working on stuff in the Overworld is probably more important than basically grunt striders sent to Earth. And there are worker Striders without weapons on Earth, in HL:Alyx. So It's safe to say that the "Nova Striders" here also can be outfitted with weapons, and you never know, it might even be 10 times better than the Striders on Earth.

I've always loved the combine's aesthetic with its synths Theres no clear line where the organism ends and the augmentations begin Its a creature thats been subjugated, broken, mutilated, enhanced and altered beyond recognition

Strider Stalkers. I like to think that at one point, every synth the Combine has was a species that they enslaved the same way as humanity, then made stalkers out of them, then combat units, and only after that started making synths out of them.
I think its becose the combat striders are more usefull, so the combine atleast takes the pain tge Nova striders have to endure and enhances the brain part responcible for balance

The way it looks makes it seem like these are the original striders, meant to be for battlefield support or logistics or construction, with synth carriers or whatever and the ones we see on earth during HL2 have specialized armor for the environment as heavy frontline units.
Maybe from here we can imagine how they're looking like as original ones form their race/kind (if not completely artificial of course)... Plus it clearly shows mechanics of not symmetrical body's structure, away from Earth's nature...
What I'm surmising from its appearance is that the role of the Nova strider is akin to the Stalker: a soulless worker stripped of all its skin, "unnecessary" organs and humanity (or the -ity of whatever this species was).

This depiction bring it more closely to the human stalkers for the strider species. Though i'm abit crossed that the redesign took away the p3n1s gun as it made things more bland. The original design shows the combine just repurpose your organs for their use - i'm sure the worker/stalker strider would have like a big welder or gravity gun or something (they don't look too dexterous for industrial work). The design was pretty seemless too as I played the first game thinking that the synths were very cool and nothing wrong with them until I saw the stalkers upclose - made you think.

Can we maybe get a little insight on to what that black goo is? Is it some kind of fuel, or broken down creatures turnd into liquid for some ungodly purposes.
So the water that is stolen from conquered planets is processed by this "living planet" and turned into a coolant for the portal engines. The portals have to stay active for hours at a time whenever a planet is being conquered. This was my idea for it. Hope it doesn't disappoint.
@@UnknownDino I think actually makes perfect sense. And why the Combine are stealing earths water. They can't never have enough water to cool their portal engines. I imagine a marvel of technology that literally TEARS A HOLE INTO A REALITY TO ANOTHER REALITY would need quite the amount of coolant.

Off world assignments may just be such things, hell, we even see a rat being used as a computer part in HL:A, and oddly enough in E2 the brain of a strider looks nearly human, it might be a stretch that a human brain can be integrated into a strider, or a synthetic strider, but I like the thought they could do that. They are called the "combine" for a reason.

Working in the *Combine Homeworld* itself is torture, no surprise the worker overworld striders have been grinded down.
They probably got the stalker treatment. They even look emaciated, like every organ unnecessary to their tasks were taken out.
